Calculations

Chloe opened her eyes in Atlantis and was surprised by the architecture. "Ms. Armstrong, I am Dr. Rodney McKay. We will be working on the calculations needed to do a wormhole jump from here to the galaxy you are currently located. If you can do that for me, I will calculate the amount of power we need to perform it." Rodney said as General Carter began speaking with Colonel Young. "I know where we are currently located, and depending on the completeness of the star charts here I memorized several locations along the route to assist in the calculations." she said as she stood up and began following him. "Start with putting your location in, and we shall see if we have the charts for it." Rodney said as they walked into his lab and pointed her to the computer. Chloe walked over to the Ancient terminal and began working on pulling up the star chart and was surprised to see that it had detailed maps of it and the next several galaxies as well. It seemed that all of the Stargate seed ships were connected via subspace link to Atlantis, and that there were only a few more galaxies for Destiny to explore before it headed back towards the milky way anyway. It was at the edge of the known universe, and most of the seed ships had broken down further along its route. "This is the galaxy Destiny us currently in, and exact location is there." Chloe said pointing to the blue dot that was in a void of the stars within the galaxy. "The edge would not work flr the distraction, however if this scan is accurate the best place is a point 2000 light years from Destiny's current location." she said indicating another spot with few stars. Rodney nodded knowing they would have to do the best they could for the mission to be a success. "Excellent, now all we have to do is the calculations for the wormhole jump now." Rodney said pulling up the formulas they would need to use. Colonel Young opened his eyes as was surprised that General Carter was waiting for him there. "Colonel, welcome to Atlantis. It has been decided we need to do an interview and potential training with you. If you will come with me we can begin." Sam said as he stood up. "It would be nice to know what is actually going on. Eli gave us the general outline, but had few details he was able to share." Colonel Young said as he began following General Carter. "He wouldn't have been able to, as most of those were determined after his departure for Destiny. Before I can give you a bunch of them we must have a discussion about the future of the programs." Carter said as they walked into the transporter and went to the command center. They walked into the conference room and Colonel Young was surprised to see General O'Neill, Mr. Woolsey, and several other members of the IOA Committee. "Welcome everyone, now that Colonel Young is present we can begin." Carter said as she walked in and sat down. "Colonel Young, please have a seat." Mr. Woolsey said as the doors closed. "We need to discuss the future of our missions, and your intentions will be an important factor." he said as they shuffled some papers. "May I ask what this is in regards too?" Colonel Young asked. "We are deciding who will be leading the Destiny mission, and as your circumstances have changed you are first in line for command of the mission after the arrival of Atlantis." Mr. Woolsey said looking at him. "I would be interested in the mission, would I receive the personnel needed when the rescue mission arrives?" he asked. "We are prepared to send 300 personnel, supplies, equipment and anything else that can make it easier for the mission after the arrival of Atlantis. We are hoping to gain the ability soon to dial Destiny for supply possibilities, and Atlantis I am told will have the ability as they are closer to Destiny." Woolsey said as he pulled out a file. "The support personnel have been selected, and there is space for another 25 military personnel beyond the 75 selected to go with the 200 support persons." Woolsey explained. "I would like the opportunity to continue leading the Destiny mission. As much as I would like to return to Earth, there is nothing here for me. I would like to be useful, and Destiny is as good as assignment as another." Everett Young replied grabbing the file. "Consider the position yours, the support personnel selected have a few selections to be made, and that is what you will be doing while here. The position does come with a change in rank, and your term will be atleast 10 years before we believe you will have the ability to return. Will that be an issue?" Woolsey asked. "No, there will not be an issue for me. Length of the mission will not matter to me, and if I spend the rest of my life travelling the Universe so be it." Colonel Young said. "What is the status of the negotiations?" General O'Neill asked Woolsey. "Ongoing, but they should be concluded within the week. They are actually asking fkr you and General Carter to attend the next meeting tomorrow." Woolsey replied. "Colonel Young, the Destiny Mission comes with the rank of Major General. If things go according to the current agreement, you will be commussioned under the United Earth Forces under the Stargate Branch of the new Military. We have 500 Candidates for the Destiny Mission at this moment, and 300 openings. We are planning 70 securoty personnel and 30 officers to run the ship. This can of course be extended with military personnel that fulfill support functions such as scientists, doctors, engineers and the such. Support personnel is expected to be 200, and should include everyone you meed to run the ship effectively. Atlantis departs in 30 days, and that is the timeframe you have to select the personnel for the mission. There is one person we would like to discuss with you, who has a history with the Destiny Mission." Woolsey informed him seriously. Colonel Young nodded, having a feeling who it was. "I will need to speak with Colonel Telford before I can make a determination on that. I assume I will be operating out of Homeworld Command?" he asked. "Yes, we will be operating extensively out of Homeworld Command over the next month. You should be made aware that negotiations at the highest level are underway to declassify the Stargate Program." General O'Neill informed him handing him the next file. "I assure you even if you remain off world, we will be sending more communication stones so more people can be on Earth at the same time." Colonel Young nodded, knowing that it would be a good boost for morale if the loved ones of everyone aboard could be included in the official visit list. "If we do, I would suggest alerting the families of those who have loved ones deployed so they are not completely blindsided." He advised seriously. Chloe spent several days learning the math she needed for the Wormhole jump, and began the long calculations of planning the jump for Atlantis. She was glad that she had been given an office and was able to work how and when she saw fit. It was nice as she worked quickly, and it was automatically uploaded to the database so Rodney and whoever else wished could see it. She knew it would take her a few werks to complete the minute details as she had to vector the location waypoints for the calculations for the jump. She had to determine all 8 points she would need for the dialing, and knew it was going to take her the longest to determine the distance calculations. They had to be exact, and she had to know what each of the symbols represented with that as a factor. She had plotted 3 of the points in only a few days, and knew the next 3 would be just as easy. Points 7 and 8 however would be more difficult as they represented the amount of distance between Earth and the point they wisjed to arrive at. The symbols for Destiny were usable as a starting point, but as they were not going to Destiny the points were not identical. She walked into the mess hall amd grabbed some food when she spotted Rodney at one of the tables working on the power requirements. She knew that was just as crucial, as they needed to know if they had to split it into two jumps so they could arrive safely. She sat across from him and began eating without saying anything as he looked through the calculations. "How goes your work?" Rodney asked her looking up and taking a bite himself. "The first 3 points have been plotted, and the next 3 should only take a few more days. 7 and 8 will be more challenging however, I need to know what the different symbols represent when used as distance functions." she told him before she continued eating her own meal. "I have a team looking into that very thing, the points for Destiny while valuable will not be identical for where we need to go as it is a code. They have determined the first few, but it will take about 10 days for them to figure out the rest." Rodney informed her. She nodded knowing that it would comlress the time she had, and it would be a close call to finishing in time for your departure. "Once I have determined the next 3 points I will assist them with the work. Hopefully it will speed up the process a bit, otherwise it will be a close call to finishing the calculations." she said. "I know, it is going to be close either way, and the city is going to need fully charged ZPMs to even consider a single jump. And 2 will be fully depleted with the 3rd most of the way, we will have to switch them quickly once the nump is finished." he told her quickly showing her the math. "I will take your word for it at the moment, if I finish the other calculations in time I will review your power calculations." she said turning the tablet back to him. "Understood, good luck." Rodney told her when he stood up and left her to finish her lunch alone.
