Chapter 4

Christa POV      Ever since we interrogated Eliza, Eli hasn’t been himself. He’s been held up inside his office for two days. He won’t talk to anyone, not even me and I am at a loss of what to do. Everyone is worried about his well-being.  “You need to go in there and talk some sense into him. He needs you more than ever right now.” Amanda tells me. I know she’s been struggling as well with the information about her father, but she’s more concerned for Eli. There has been so much stress put on him with Lex, Eliza, his father, our pack’s safety, and my own safety. It’s really been taking a toll on him.  “I don’t know what to do? How do I help him?”  “You don’t have to do anything. Just be there for him. Believe that your presence will be enough for him.”       I take a deep breath and release it before I go into his office. I slowly open his office door and peak inside. He looks rough, but he’s still as handsome as ever in a more rugged way. His face has gone unshaved, and his hair looks like he's been constantly running his hands through it in frustration, and it looks like he hasn’t slept. As I walk inside his office, I watch him carefully to see what kind of mood he is in. To be honest, I’m nervous to be in here with him. I know he would never hurt me, but everyone else who has come in to talk to him has come running out of his office afraid, and I’ve been anxious to come in, scared he’ll be the same way with me. I walk closer to his desk; he has his elbows propped up on his desk and his head resting in his hands as he looks at the paperwork scattered on his desk. He doesn't look up as I get closer to him.  “Hey,” I say quietly, worried any wrong move might set him off.       He looks up at me but doesn't say anything, so I continue getting closer to him. He slightly moves his chair away from the desk as I sit down in his lap and wrap my arms around his neck. He brings his arms around my body and holds me tight. Then he buries his face in my neck and takes in a deep breath. Immediately I can feel his muscles relax as he breathes me in. We sit like that for a while, neither of us saying a word. All we can do is take comfort in being close to each other and holding one another. Once Eli is ready, he slowly pulls away and looks at me. “Thank you.” He says. “For what?” “For just being here. Just having you close to me brings me so much comfort.” He lets out a sigh. I chuckle. “Can I be honest?” “Always.” “I was scared to come in here.” He furrows his brows and frowns. “Why would you be scared?” “Because… after everyone had come running out of your office afraid, I thought that you would do the same with me.” He shakes his head and sighs. “Sweetness, I’m sorry I made you feel that way.” “You didn't make me feel that way!”  “I did. If you felt that you weren’t different then the others who have come in here, then I haven't done a very good job of showing you just how different and special you are. Out of everyone here, you are the one person I will always want to see. No matter what. Okay?” I nod my head, comforted by what he said.      It would have broken my heart if he had chased me out like he had everyone else, and I was too scared to risk it. I shouldn’t have been. I should have known better. I took two days to come into his office when he needed me. Now I feel horrible for making him wait so long while he has been suffering, and he needed me.  “I’m sorry I made you wait so long,” I whisper with tears stinging my eyes.  “Ssshhh sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry about.” He says as he leans in to kiss me.       As soon as his lips touch mine, I feel relief flow through me, and I melt into him, letting him deepen the kiss. I moan as he releases me, panting to catch my breath.  “Wow!” Is all I can say to that kiss. Eli chuckles and pecks my lips once, then twice again, as he slowly releases me.       I hesitate to ask him what he plans to do with his dad, but we need to figure it out soon. We already have enough to worry about, and we don't need his father to get in our way or ruin our plans.  “Have… have…, ” I start but have a hard time getting the words out. I let out a frustrated sigh. “I know what you want to ask. Have I thought about what I want to do with my father?” I nod my head frowning, my lips tight, unhappy that we even have to have this conversation. Eli sighs and runs his hand through his hair for the thousandth time, I’m sure.  “I think, for now, I’m going to have him thrown in the dungeons. I’m intent on making him spend the rest of his life down there. He doesn't deserve to have a life outside of prison cells. I want him to spend the rest of his life thinking about what he did to my mother. I think death would be too easy for him!”  “Do you think Amanda would agree?”  “I’ll talk to her about it. She deserves to have input as well. It was her mother too who our father murdered.” He pauses for a moment and then asks, “How is she doing with all of this?” “I guess she's doing ok. I know she's struggling as well, but she's more worried about you.” Eli nods, and his eyes cloud over. No doubt he’s mind-linking her. A moment later, Amanda walks into the office. Eli gently lifts me off of his lap, kissing me on my forehead before he walks over to Amanda and gives her a big brotherly hug.  “You doing okay?” Amanda asks. “I’m better now that I have you both here,” Eli says as he releases Amanda from their hug and sits back down at his desk, pulling me back down onto his lap.  “I want to ask you how you feel about letting father rot in the dungeon for the rest of his life?” Amanda shrugs. “I thought for sure you would want him dead, but letting him rot in a cell is fine too! He deserves whatever he gets!” “Death is too good for him!” Eli responds. Amanda nods her head in agreement.  “What are we going to tell the pack?” Amanda questions. “We’re going to tell them the truth,” Eli responds. “They’re going to be so devastated. It was bad enough that rogues murdered mom, but to find out that dad was the cause of her murder is just… just gut-wrenching.” Amanda says as tears fall from her eyes. I can't help but go to her and hug her. It breaks my heart how much pain this has brought to both of them.  “I’ll set everything up to make an announcement after we have father locked up. I’m sure people will want to know what’s going on with him.” Eli states.  For the next couple of hours, I help Eli with some of his work to help take some pressure off him.  > > >      The next day, I work with Rebecca practicing my magic skills. I’ve been able to control my powers much better, and I have been slowly developing powers I didn't know I had. It seems that once I perfect a power, a new one begins to develop. But today, I can’t seem to focus on anything, and Rebecca is taking notice. “What is going on with you?” “I don’t know?” I say as I look at Rebecca. She is looking at me with both hands on her hips, giving me an ‘I don’t believe you look.’ Ever since we found out, she was Chase’s mate, and she's been working with me; our relationship has gotten better, and she’s been getting to know me a little too well. I let out a sigh of resignation. “Fine. I’ve just had a lot on my mind.”  “Like what?” She asks, curious. “Like, how I’m going to tell Pete that his mate for the last few years isn’t actually his mate! And the fact that his fake mate has hated me and tortured me this whole time and has secretly wanted to kill me, and almost succeeded. And that his true mate is still out there!” “Oh… well, that is quite the dilemma! I can see why you can’t focus.” “I’m also wondering when you're going to accept my brother, Chase?” She immediately tenses up, and all of a sudden gets up. “Oh, crap... I forgot I-I-I... have a, uh, uh, thing to go to!” She says as she quickly escapes out the front door. All I can do is shake my head. She can’t run away forever! I get up and clean up the mess we had made by using my powers. **Jacob**      I’m spending the day with Chase again, and he's been introducing me to the pack in the packhouse. As he introduces me to some members, he stops and focuses on one person in particular. I look at him and then at her. She doesn't seem to notice him as she talks with some of the she-wolves in the common area.  “Who is that?” I ask. “Hmmm…? Oh, it's no one.” “It doesn't seem like no one!” I say, nudging him. He looks down at me with a smirk.  “Fine, she's my mate!” He says, looking proud.  “Why don't you go talk to her?” “Because she doesn't want to have anything to do with me.”  “Well, make her want something to do with you!” Chase looks at me, confused. “How?” “I don’t know, man. But from my experience, if she sees girls showing interest in you and you showing interest in them, she’s bound to get jealous and want to claim you as hers!” He looks at me, unsure about my advice. “I don’t want to hurt her!”  “You don’t have to do anything with another girl. Just flirt a little and make sure she sees it…. look over there, ” I say, pointing to a girl standing near the group, “just go over there and talk to her!” He nods his head and starts talking to the other chick next to her. He says something to her that causes her to throw her head back in laughter, catching his mate's attention, and she doesn't look too happy. She squints her eyes, staring daggers at him. Uh oh, that's not good. She walks over to him and throws a drink into his face, and walks off. He stands there, shocked at what just happened, and walks back to me, pissed off. “Your advice sucked!”  I have to try my hardest not to c***k up laughing. “Sorry, man. I didn't think it would go that way! You definitely have your hands full with that one!” But this new information about his mate may come into use!  As she walks out of the packhouse, I pat Chase on the back and say, “Better luck next time.” I excuse myself and leave.    **Rebecca**      I can't believe that pompous bastard! Flirting with another girl right in front of me! She just threw her head back laughing, as if he’d just said the most hilarious thing in the world! Give me a break! This… this is why I don't want to get involved with anyone again! I’ve already had my heart broken once. I refuse to allow it to happen a second time!       As I walk out of the room, and out to the garden to get a breath of fresh air, a man I’ve never seen walks up to me.
