His scent filled the room as he walked in. With each step he took closer to me, I wanted to tell him to stop. That we were strangers, and it was okay if he stood and talked at a distance, yet, I found my lips unable to move, my mouth unable to utter a single word, and just as he came over and sat beside me, the bed dipped, and I felt as if my body moved towards him, even if it was by an inch, followed by his scent engulfing my senses, I could only swallow in response, my heart racing and my eyes taking in the sight of him.
Short brown hair, hazel brown eyes, long lashes any girl would die for and a broad jawline.
Last night, it was dark, and I was beat up, so all I could make out was his muscular build and height, which I was now sure is over 6"3. But now, staring at his face, his beauty was a force to be reckoned with.
"How are you feeling now?" his cool voice interrupted my thoughts and I blinked out of my entrancement. I must have looked like a fool staring at him all the way.
"I'm fine. Thanks to Jesse, I'm all healed now," I said, nodding my head towards her, but his eye remained fixed on me, as if I was the only person in the room, and somehow, all that attention made me feel uncomfortable.
"Good. Last night was chaotic. I didn't get the chance to properly introduce myself," he said, his body shifting closer to me, and I could feel his warmth radiating towards me. "I am alpha Seth, but you can call me Seth," he extended his hand.
"Everly. My name is Everly," I replied, taking his hand in a shake. Large, warm and rough hands engulfed my much slender, smaller and softer hands.
"And I'm Carson, his beta. If you and I become good friends, then you earn the right to call me Cass, which I doubt is going to happen anytime soon," Beta Carson interrupted the moment. Only then did I notice him standing at the door, and I wondered for how long he had been standing there. "But there is a shortcut. If you become our Luna, then you can call me anything and I won't object," Carson said with a grin.
I flinched, immediately pulling my hand away from alpha Seth's and shifting away, putting a good distance between us.
The mention of the title of Luna had me coming back to my senses.
Not only did I remember Luna Paige, who made sure my stay in the pack was terrible the past two days, but also the fact that Alpha Seth kept referring to me as his mate.
"Come on now, Everly. Don't pretend to not like it. I mean, you are already staying in his room," Beta Carson said snarkily.
"What?" my head immediately snapped towards Alpha Seth. The shock must have been evident on my face, and Alpha Seth looked away, as if feeling guilty.
Instead, he turned to Beta Carson with a glare.
"Out. Now."
Alpha Seth said firmly. All manner of playfulness was gone from Beta Carson. In a swift move, he bowed his head, turned and left the room. I thought the order was meant only for him, but even Jesse, who was standing quietly, bowed and left, leaving only the two of us in the room.
"I. I didn't know this was your room. I will get out right now," I said and in a swift move, pulled the sheets away from my body and jumped out of bed, ready to leave the room, only for a strong hand to grab my arm and pull me back.
The sudden movement, his strength and, in addition to the fact that I hadn't eat anything in the past 10 hours, my body couldn't resist the pull, and in a second, I found my body turning, my head spinning, my hands instinctively went up, trying to grab onto something to stop myself from falling. But it was too late. Unexpectedly, I found myself sitting on his lap and my arms, one grabbing onto his shoulder, and another planted on his hard chest.
I looked up, our eyes met, and I immediately flushed in embarrassment.
To make matters worse, the door opened before I had a chance to get up. Lize was holding a tray with food. Upon seeing us, she quickly apologized, bowed her head and left, closing the door behind her.
I had forgotten that she was going to bring breakfast. Without wasting another second, I scrambled up, putting a good distance between us and looking everywhere but at him.
"Sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen. But why would you..." I trailed off. Because what was he trying to do by pulling me like that? "Please leave," I stated, ignoring the tingling sensation on my arm where he touched.
Quietly, he stood up, with each step he took towards the door, my chest felt heavy.
He stopped in front of the door, his hands on the knob.
"Sorry for making you uncomfortable. And I know everything must be so sudden for you. I learned that you were just a human who somehow got sold to this pack," Alpha Seth said with his back facing me. As if selling and buying people was the most normal thing ever. But then, Gracie did mention that it helped them find a safe place to live in instead of wandering around, homeless and constantly in danger. And to be honest, I got to escape death row and be here too. "But it's only fate that brought us together. I know you feel it too."
And with that, he stepped out of the room. Leaving me in labored silence.
I went back and sat on the bed, thinking about his words.
Faye huh? It sure is cruel.
The door opened once again and Lize came back in, this time with a mischievous grin on her face.
She placed the tray carefully on the table and turned to look at me.
"I only stepped out for a few minutes. I can't believe you have already reached this stage with your mate. There is much to be envied," she sighed dreamily.
"Tsk. As if," I grumbled, standing up. I went over and was surprised to see the content on the tray. Different from what I usually had for breakfast since going to jail and arriving in this pack.
Amazed, I started stuffing my face with a bite of anything I could get my hands on, taking sips of orange juice in between.
"How did you get such delicious food today? It tastes amazing," while munching on a croissant.
"Why not? Your status has been raised. You are now Alpha's mistress. Of course, you will get only the best," she said cheekily.
The food in my throat took a wrong turn and I instinctively started coughing out, my eyes getting teary.
"Calm down and eat slowly," Lize rushed to my side, handing me a glass of water and gently patting me on the back. "If you please the alpha well, our lives will be so much better from today on," she cooed into my ear.
The f**k did I get myself into?!
