4. Problem Arises

HARMONY’S POINT OF VIEW

“I am so excited to study with you later!” Genevieve said through text message. That was the very first thing I have ever read this morning and I know the reason why she is so excited. It was because finally, she will be able to see again and talk to Marcus after a long time of not seeing her childhood crush. I just charged my phone first before standing up from my bed and making my breakfast. As I opened my fridge the only thing that I saw is a piece of egg and a few pieces of the bread I bought with the discount the other day. I just get the plastic of bread and the piece of an egg from the fridge before putting them on the table and opened my stove to cook the egg. I just scrambled the egg and put it at the top of the bread and that is already my breakfast for this day. I know that I am already more stable than before but I still need to save the money if ever Marcus didn’t need me anymore or just canceled the tutor all of sudden, I still have some money left in my pocket that can sustain my needs while I am looking for a new job. After eating my breakfast, I just washed the dishes I have used before heading towards my bathroom and getting ready for another day as a university student. 

“Good morning landlady.” I said as I head inside her office. I decided to pay for my rent for the whole year so if ever I lose my job, I still have a place where I can stay.

“Oh, why are you here Harmony?” My landlady asked me while her brows were raised at me. I just get the white envelope from my pocket and handed it over to her which made her brows raise even more.

“I am here to pay for my rent for the whole year. Don’t worry if you are worrying that, that money came from bad things it didn’t. I just found a truly good job that pays so well so I was able to pay you.” I said while smiling at her. 

“Do you still have money with you?” She asked me while she is counting the money, I gave her.

“Yeah, I still have,” I said while smiling at her.

“Ahm, then I need to go now. Have a good day Ms. Landlady.” I said before heading outside her office. As I head outside, I just started to walk towards the bus stop where I can ride towards the school. While I am waiting here at the bus stop, a black car stopped in front of me so I thought it is Genevieve but her car is white not black.

“Good morning Ms. Harmony!” My eyes automatically widen the moment I saw who went outside the car. It was Marcus McMillan! Geez! What is he doing here? And how does he know that I am here?

“Ahm, good morning too, Marcus. What are you doing here?” I asked him while I am frowning at him. He just smiled at me before scratching his head and looking at me with that genuine smile on his lips.

“I was about to pass by here when I saw you here so I decided to stop by and offer you a ride to the university since I am also going that way,” Marcus said while he is still smiling at me. I am so skeptical about accepting his offer because I know that Genevieve might get jealous if she knew that I ride with Marcus and I didn’t want that to happen!

“Ahm, thank you so much Marcus for the offer but I am afraid I must decline it, but I truly appreciate your kindness to me, I truly do,” I said while smiling at him. 

“But why? Do you have a boyfriend that will get mad at you once he knew that you ride in someone else’s car?” Marcus asked me so I immediately shake my head at him before speaking.

“No, no, it’s not like that Marcus. It’s just, it’s just I didn’t want to start a mess.” I said. Marcus was about to speak again when a bus arrives, so I immediately excused myself and run towards the bus. I am so sorry Marcus, I just didn’t want to mess my and Genevieve’s friendship that we had ever since we were in freshmen years. I’ll just apologize to him later for running away like that without any explanation. I didn’t know that I was already in deep thought until I heard my phone beeps from my pocket so I immediately get it. As I opened my phone, I saw Genevieve’s name on my screen so I immediately opened her message.

“Hey! Are you already in our school?” Genevieve said through text message so I reply to her saying that I am already on my way.

“Okay! Then please wait for me in our same spot okay?” Genevieve replied.

“Okay, have a safe trip,” I replied back and after that Genevieve didn’t reply anymore so I just put back my phone inside my pocket. It almost took me an hour to arrive at our university, and as I head outside the bus I head towards the spot where Genevieve and I usually meet whenever we have to talk about something important. While I am waiting for her, I cannot help but get anxious because I didn’t have an idea about the important thing that we need to talk about.

“Hey! Did you wait for me for a long time?” I only came back to my senses when I heard Genevieve’s voice while she is walking towards me. I just stand up from the ground to greet her.

“Nah, I just arrived here maybe a minute earlier than you. By the way, why did you call me here?” I asked her while we are walking towards the bench in this place.

“I have a problem, Harmony,” Genevieve said before grabbing my hand which made me look at her.

“Hmm, what is it?” I asked her while looking at her.

“Okay, so while I am browsing earlier in my social media, I saw a post on our university’s page and saw this news and photo of Marcus,” Genevieve said and shows me the picture she is talking about. My eyes automatically widen the moment I saw the picture she is talking about. It was the moment that happened earlier at the bus stop! Who captured this?! Thank goodness my face cannot be seen since Marcus is hiding me.

“Is this all the photo that’s been uploaded?” I asked Genevieve while trying to hide the anxiety I am feeling right now.

“Ah, someone sent me another photo, and the girl’s face was barely seen. I am hoping that you can identify who the girl is.” Genevieve said while looking for the photo she is talking about. 

“Here.” She said and then handed over her phone to me and she was right, my face was barely seen and it was almost unidentifiable.

“Ahm, she looks familiar but I cannot remember her name,” I said before giving back her phone.

“Yeah, me too! I feel like I truly know this girl but I just cannot remember who she is.” Genevieve said before putting back her phone inside her pocket. 

“By the way Harmony, there is another thing I want to tell you,” Genevieve said which made me look at her again.

“Hmm, what is it?” I asked her.

“Promise me that you won’t be mad at me.” She said so I just nod at her.

“I promised I won’t be mad at you whatever it is,” I said while smiling at her.

“Well, I have a sudden dinner meeting with my parents later and I need to be home early, so I might bail the tutor later,” Genevieve said which made me smile.

“It’s fine Genevieve, your family comes first so it’s fine. Besides, I have more days of tutoring Marcus and you can always tag along with us.” I said while smiling at her.

“Thank you, Harmony.” She said before hugging me so tight. I just hugged her back with a smile on my face before we started walking together towards our classroom. You know, I kind of feel so bad right now because I just lied to my best friend. My best friend who always treats me so good and treats me like her own sister even though I am not.

“Ahm, Genevieve,” I called her which made her stop walking. Genevieve just looked at me using those questioning looks on her face.

“What is it?” She asked me with a smile on her face.

“I just want to ask you if you made your assignment with Professor Hue?” I asked her. Geez! Just like that, I lied again to her.

“Of course! I made it, why?” She asked me while walking towards me.

“I forgot to make it last night,” I said even though I truly made it.

“Ahm, Harmony are you okay?” Genevieve asked me so I just nod at her. I was about to speak again when all of sudden everything turns black.

GENEVIEVE’S POINT OF VIEW

“OH, MY GOODNESS HARMONY!” I shouted the moment Harmony fall to the ground. 

“SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!” I shouted again while I am holding Harmony’s unconscious body.

“What happened to her?” I immediately lifted my head and saw Marcus’s worried face while looking at Harmony.

“I don’t know, she just fell all of a sudden. We were just talking about the assignment we have before she lost consciousness and fall on the ground.” I said while looking at him.

“Let’s take her to the clinic. Come with me.” Marcus said before lifting Harmony’s body and starting to walk towards the clinic. While we are walking towards the clinic, I just realized how the hell Marcus is here in our department especially here in the senior’s department?

“What happened to her?” Our school nurse asked Marcus as we head inside the clinic.

“She just lost her consciousness all of a sudden and fell on the ground,” Marcus said as he gently lay Harmony’s body on the bed.

“Don’t worry I will take good care of her. You guys need to head to your classroom now, classes are about to start.” The school nurse said so we just nod at her before we started heading outside the clinic.

“By the way, thank you so much for helping Harmony,” I said to Marcus as we head outside the clinic. Marcus looked at me with a smile on his face before he started to speak.

“No worries, thank goodness I happened to pass by here since I need to tell Ms. Harmony that I won’t be able to attend the tutor later,” Marcus said which explains why he is here.

“Hmm, what is the reason?” I asked him.

“Well, your parents invited our family for a dinner later,” Marcus said 

“Oh! So, your family is the special guest my mother is talking about earlier.” I said before laughing.

“Yeah, by the way, it was so nice to talk with you again but I need to go my department is 15 minutes away from here so I better go,” Marcus said while waving his hand and starting to walk away from me. When he is not in my sight anymore, I also started to walk towards our classroom with a smile on my face because finally, after all these years without talking with Marcus I was able to talk to him even it is just for a while. For me, that is a good baby step, for us. I will just keep on hoping that one day we will be able to bring back the closeness we had before.
