Chapter 6: Right Ear Deafness
(Sophia's POV)
The doctor's words hit me like a physical blow.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Reed. The tympanic membrane is perforated. You'll permanently lose hearing in your right ear."
My body trembled as tears streamed down my face. The reality of what Vincent had done to me was now permanent—a disability I would carry for life. I couldn't stop crying, the sobs wracking my body as I sat on the edge of the hospital bed.
Alessandro sat nearby, completely absorbed in his phone. He didn't even glance up at my breakdown, his fingers tapping away at the screen as if my distress was nothing but background noise.
"Could you at least pretend to care?" I choked out between sobs.
He finally looked up, his gray eyes cold and distant. "You brought this on yourself."
