Fallen from Eden

Soldiers appeared out of nowhere. Eve couldn’t remember seeing any other live creatures in the castle besides Kiara, Luke and Lucifer’s family. And the butlers. But now dozens of heavily armed dark long hair elves walked up to the towers handling shining bows, while others stood by the gates with polished swords and big shields. Lucifer stood by the gates.

Kiara hid behind Luke. She was still peeking from behind his shoulder trying to see what’s going to happen.

“We don’t get a lot of visitors here.” Eve heard Theodor’s voice. He stopped besides her and put his hand on his sword hanging by his side. “Father is very happy to show off his toys” He looked at armed elves standing still without moving any single muscle of their entire bodies.

Eve had a bad feeling about all of this. Her heart stopped beating for a moment while the gates were being opened. Elves leaned forward all like one connected unit. A carriage was already there. It was a spectacular creation: clear snow-white color with golden framing all around it, it was decorated with golden winged details all over the carriage. The window curtain was closed so no one could tell who was inside.

But Eve knew…

She has seen this vehicle thousands of times, she has been inside of it too on the worst journeys of her life.

Four pearl-white Pegasus stood still and all full length well trained to behave.

The doors slowly opened. The Elves grabbed their shields even firmer. Everybody held their breath. Eve was panicking, she couldn’t’ stand calmly. What if they already knew what she had done. Actually, it would be strange if they hadn’t found out yet.

“Don’t worry, Lucifer is here.” Theodor put his hand on her shoulder. “Even if you aren’t his friend, Lucifer protects those who had watched God turn his back on them”.

But it did not calm her down at all. Lucifer versus Phanuel. Neither is worse nor better.

As Phanuel, the right hand of God, stepped out of the carriage, for a moment everybody went blind from a wave of light. Phanuel rose his scepter with inlayed sun’s gems and all the Lucifer’s army melted like wax candles thrown in the fireplace.

Lucifer greeted him by slowly clapping his hands.

“Phanuel, the face of God.“ Lucifer rose his hands as trying to give angel big warming hug. Phanuel scanned everybody else with his eyes and his look stopped on Eve. He showed his teeth. Eve wanted to hide behind wide Theodor’s shoulders, but that was only for a moment. She bravely stepped forward and sarcastically took a bow in front of Phanuel. She really hoped that Theodor is right and Lucifer would save her if Phanuel had some evil intentions.

“The human soul, the goddess of the miracle of live,” Phanuel did pause before continuing of her Biblical titles” the wife of the first man and God’s favorite.”

From look in his eyes she could tell he knew about her crime.

“Nice to see you again, Pha” Eve said. She felt all the tension surrounding them like a magic bubble.

Lucifer felt it too, he stepped closer to Eve. Phanuel keen eyes did not miss this move.

“Well, well, well, a murderer found a friend? You deserve Lucifer, Eve. You went from the most innocent creation in the world to sharing the same morals as him”.

“Enough!” Lucifer pushed Eve aside. He stood so close to Phanuel they heard each other’s heartbeat. “Tell us what you want, snake, then you can creep back to your puppet master.”

“How impatient, how rude. Is that anything close to the welcoming I deserve?” Phanuel leaned back. “But if you want to keep things short, here’s the deal my friends. God commands Eve travel with me to the Eden to face God’s trial to determine whether her soul is worth saving or not.”

“And what if not?” Theodor asked from behind of her. He walked in front and took Lucifer’s place in between Phanuel and Eve.

Phanuel laughed so loud and clear so every single beast of the forest must have heard him.

“If you disagree, I will take her by force.” His face suddenly became cold and fierce. “No matter who stands in my way.”

Eve dragged Theodor back by his elbow and whispered:

“Even If he is an angel, he is nothing close to innocence. He is extremely dangerous.”

Theodor didn’t respond. His eyes reflected nothing but determination. At least Eve warned him. Or tried to.

“Take her if you want” Lucifer said. “but I thought you never liked running errands for God like a peasant, Phanuel”

“Don’t you worry, to accomplish this task is going to be nothing but pleasure” Phanuel grabbed his scepter with both of his hands.

Eve heard Kiara scream as Lucifer slowly showed his true face. Two black horns grew on his head, his eyes shed blood, Lucifers shirt and vest ripped and enormous black wings appeared. Eve could have sworn that it was real lava dripping down off him.

She felt how Theodor dragged her away before Lucifers tail could sweep her off her feet. They both were couple of feet away from the ground. Phanuel’s wings were roughly the same size as Lucifers but white and covered by feathers.

They were both were heavily breathing and staring at each other. Theodor told Luke to go inside and take Kiara with him. Eve jealously watched him walking her with his arm over her shoulders.

All of sudden, Phanuel lunged at Lucifer with a  blinding flash of light. It hit Lucifer and he crashed back into the wall. He slowly got up and angrily let a ball of dark arrows to Phanuel. The angel put up a magic shield on and all the Lucifers arrows dissolved in a blink of eye.

Lucifer roared like a beast, a trident appeared in his hands out of nowhere and he went towards Phanuel with his weapon facing forward. Phanuel held up his scepter in defense.

As their weapons clashed together, sparks surrounded them making air heat up and burn a circle in the grass around them.

Theodor was forcing Eve to step away from the action and get back in the castle, but over his shoulder she saw many white creatures coming from the sky.

“Theo, wait, look” She pushed him away “Please, tell me this castle has some sort of magical shield!”

Theodor turned around. Dozens of angels were flying down from the clouds. They were armed with shining swords and golden helmets.

“You can travel by air unless you are prisoned here by the curse. And that curse would only make you go to the castle, remember?!” Theodor nervously watched the angels getting closer while taking out his sword.

“Go tell Luke to join me while you stay inside with Kiara” Theodor commanded. Eve refused to listen. “Go! Now!”

She finally listened. She saw Lucifer and Phanuel fighting so intensely that Lucifer hadn’t even noticed that Phanuel brought a backup. She rushed inside.

Luke was already  storming out with an axe he found as a decoration on the wall. Kiara ran and hugged Eve as soon as she got in.

“I need a weapon” Eve said as she felt the nice embrace of Kiara’s arms leave her shoulders, but she needed to do something and quick. Kiara surprised Eve by lifting her dress up and revealing a sharp dagger with ruby on its handle.

“Take it, but please, be very careful” Kiara said. “I will try to find any souls at the castle who know how to use weapons.”

Eve thanked her, grabbed the dagger and hugged her again. Kiara smiled.

“Now go. They need you out there.” Kiara muttered. Eve nodded and ran back outside.

Theodor and Luke were surrounded by the angels’ army. Lucifer and Phanuel paused their fight. It seemed to be a pretty even match with both panting heavily and several small battle wounds.

“You really thought I was going to come here all alone?” Phanuel said. His hair was all messy, he had massive cut on his check with blood running down his face.

“You, twisted snake” Lucifer spilled out “but I’m never alone either.”

He rose his trident and the same squad of dark-blood elves reappeared. It seemed like fight without an end. Elves attacked angels alongside Luke and Theodor, Lucifer chased Phanuel who suddenly got up in the air and started flying around in circles so fast Eve lost sight of him. All of sudden she felt somebody’s hands around her and a cold stick by her neck.

“Ready to give up?” she heard Phanuel’s voice behind her. Lucifer landed in front of them.

“Let her go. If her soul is not worth Eden, leave her in the heart of hell.” Lucifer stepped closer. Phanuel got up from the ground and Eve felt how her feet could no longer touch ground.

“Why do all of sudden you care about this sinner so much?” Phanuel flied higher.

“Put me down, Pha.” Eve remembered times she could actually order Phanuel and he was listening. Because he had too. Now she felt how his muscles tighten and he started to breath heavier.

“See you never, Lucifer” he winked and with a big lash of wings got up to the sky  faster than a bullet.

Eve watched castle to become smaller and smaller.  But when they reached line between Earth and Eden, she felt like some net held her in place. Phanuel, however, got through it without a problem so Eve felt out of his arms and started falling alone. She screamed for help as forest and castle become closer and closer.

When she was about to hit tips of the trees, she felt two strong arms catching her. It was Lucifer. He safely brought her back to ground. Eve fell to her knees as she was relieved her feet could once again feel the ground.

He turned around where Kiara was already trying to force a butler into a soldier and with one hand move made all the remaining angels leave. Fire and heat scared them away as vampires who had just has seen first light of dawn.

“What happened?” Theodor asked as he helped Eve to stand up. Lucifer seemed exhausted. He leaned back against the castle walls and exhaled a long and deep breath.

“The curse didn’t let her leave.” He looked around “The only way to get out is that damn carriage.”

“Which the angels already took away” Luke came closer with Kiara. She immediately went to check up on Eve who was still shaking from her fall.

“I have fallen down from Eden” she said. “Am I queen of hell now?”
