LOGAN'S P.O.V
The engine hummed beneath me as I drove Lexi to school.
She looked happier than she had in weeks.
She was singing along to the music playing on the speakers, her hair swaying back and forth as she listened to the music.
I smiled, watching her sing even though it was off-key. She's on the path of gaining herself again forgetting the past, and I would support that progress.
I decided to tease her a bit. "You do know you're singing off-key right?" I asked with a smirk.
She glared at me. "It's none of your business. My voice is perfect the way it is."
I scoffed. "Keep telling yourself that."
She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms.
The school entrance came into view, as I parked the car in the parking lot.
I faced her.
"Have a nice day at school and if anyone bullies you-"
"Call big brother and he will take care of it." She smiled, completing my sentence.
"Exactly."
She rolled her eyes and got out of the car.
Out of nowhere, a girl rushed forward and hugged Lexi.
"Lexi. Oh my gosh... you're looking so cute. I love your outfit." The girl smiled, turning Lexi around.
I couldn't see her face clearly but her voice was smooth and melodious.
"Thanks Laurey. You're hyper as always." Lexi replied with a laugh.
"Don't mind her Lexi. She's over the moon because she helped someone." I heard a guy's voice this time.
It wasn't flirty; it was just calm and friendly.
Thank God.
Lexi already has enough problems and shouldn't deal with some random guy trying to impress her.
"I can tell." Lexi added, laughing.
It wasn't forced or uncomfortable, it was genuine. It's been long I heard her laugh that way and I knew that whoever those two were, they meant more to her than just classmates.
The girl, Laurey suddenly bent down and looked at me.
"Who is this Lexi? Is he your boyfriend?" she asked with curiosity, while eyeing me.
"No, silly. He's my brother." Lexi said.
"Oh, you're her brother?" she asked, smiling.
I just nodded my head.
She had this confident vibe around her; she was the first person that's not afraid to talk to me. That's odd. Maybe it's because I'm wearing a mask that almost covers my face, only my eyes are visible.
"Wow! You're so cool. Why the mask, anyway? Are you a mafia boss or something?" she asked again.
She does have a lot of questions. She thinks I'm a mafia boss because I'm wearing a mask? Tsk...tsk.
I shook my head.
"Are you dumb or what? Why aren't you talking?" she asked curiously.
The guy from before quickly came over and covered her mouth. "Laurey, what is wrong with you? How can you call someone dumb? It's rude."
"Oh my gosh. You're right, Dylan. I am being rude." She said, wearing a somber expression.
The guy, Dylan looked shocked to hear that even Lexi. Maybe they're not used to her admitting her mistakes.
"I didn't introduce myself. I'm Lauretta but you can call me Laurey."
Dylan smacked his hand on his face and Lexi just laughed.
"Typical Laurey." Lexi said, smiling.
"What? Isn't it rude not to introduce yourself?" she asked confused.
"Just do you Laurey." Dylan said, exasperated.
I smiled, loving her energy, how carefree she was.
The way she was free and not afraid to show her emotions.
She talked without hesitation, asked ridiculous questions and somehow wasn't intimidated by me at all.
Most people avoided eye contact with me.
Laurey looked like she wanted to interview me.
And, she was beautiful. There's no denying that.
Okayyyy, what is wrong with me?
Focus, Logan... You're meant to look after your sister not fantasizing over her friends.
Laurey's voice broke me out of my trance.
"Heyy, you didn't tell me your name?"
"Logan." I replied shortly.
"Wow! Nice name..." she wanted to say more but the bell rang.
"Oh! We better get going. It was nice meeting you, Logan."
"You too." I replied.
"We'll see again right?"
I just shrugged my shoulders.
She smiled and waved at me before Lexi dragged her.
"If you're done flirting with my brother we have to get to class." Lexi looked at me with a smirk before walking to school with Dylan and Laurey.
I was in a daze from what just happened. How can just a smile from a girl affect me like this? There's definitely something wrong with me.
'Come back to your senses, Logan.' I slapped myself two times.
When I was sure Lexi and Laurey..... hold that thought, Laurey is not your business.
After the internal battle with my thoughts and self-consciousness, I drove out of Lexi's school to my office.
Immediately, I stepped into the building, all eyes were fixed to the ground, afraid to utter a single word.
Once I stepped into the elevator, the office seemed to relax behind me.
I chuckled, knowing they were to scared to breathe.
I settled in my office trying to focus on my work but it was all in vain because my mind kept drifting to a certain girl and her smile.
I was on the verge of calling my personal assistant to investigate her but that would sound creepy and make me look like a stalker.
I rubbed my head in frustration and shut my eyes, helpless.
