Chapter 17

1181 Words
Sally couldn't sleep that night when she came back from the hospital. The children were asleep when they entered the house with Max. He took his young son, Josh, back home on foot. Surprisingly, Max lived a few blocks away. This made it more fun for the children to play together. Snow Ball, Josh, and Midnight often played together outside, but also indoors when they felt like it when coming over. Lara suggested she stay the night so she could help take care of the kids and also help Sally. Sally told Lara everything… About the diagnosis and that Bunny was dying. When Lara asked if there was a cure, Sally said there wasn't. She spoke the whole truth to Lara, every detail, and she held nothing back. She was thankful that Lara slept over that night. Unfortunately, Sally started having nightmares, watching her husband die in the hospital bed. Unfortunately, the nightmare will really be a reality. Bunny wasn't dead yet and then she came up with a plan. Why not go to a private island? She managed to fall asleep with a small smile on her face, but she was still devastated by the news and often cried. The next day, after the kids were at school and while Lara and Max were at work, Sally left for the hospital alone to talk to Bunny about her plan. She greeted the people and furries she encountered and went over to her husband. She knocked softly on the door and entered. Bunny lay on his sickbed with his eyes closed. Sally smiled softly. Since that fateful day, he seemed to be at peace. He hadn't died yet but he would soon be peaceful to go… She walked over to his side and grabbed his paw that was resting on his stomach. She squeezed gently and that woke him up. He blinked before looking at his wife with a smile on his face. "Hey, sweetheart." "Hey, Bun Bun." Then they started talking to each other. Sally told him everything that happened when she returned home. Bunny's heart broke when he heard all that. He was sick and dying… What about his family, especially their children, who were still so small? After they finished, there was a moment of silence, but Sally grabbed Bunny's paw and pressed it against her stomach. What is she doing? Bunny wondered why she did that, but when he thought hard, his eyes went wide in shock when he realized, "You are...?" Sally nodded with a sad smile and began to cry. Bunny gently grabbed her and held her. “I'm still here, Sally. I'm still here." He rubbed her back with his paw. * After Sally calmed down, she told her husband about her idea of going to a private island before he died. Bunny wanted to go but he didn't have long to live. Maybe a week because the disease he has can quickly kill the victim. Bunny looked pale and weak. He also lost a few pounds. He still wanted to spend time with his family and friends before moving to a better place. He agreed. Sally was happy and immediately went to arrange the papers and other things. Things were settled quickly thanks to the help she received from Lara and Max. The children also flew to the private island to spend time with their father and uncle. Bunny was Josh's uncle, who was the same age as Snow Ball. He looked like a small version of Max, his biological father. * Before everyone knew it everyone was on the private island that Sally and Max had booked. Bunny wanted to pay for it too but they told him to see this as a gift for all he did for the world. Bunny blushed. Surprise. How did the children react to the news? It was hard for anyone to explain that Father and Uncle Bunny would leave the world and go to a peaceful place in heaven. He would become a star that you can look at every night. Of course, the kids didn't understand that it meant Bunny was dying, but do you know how they reacted to it? Here's what they said: "We hope you're happy up there, Dad/Uncle." Bunny couldn't help but cry. The kids, Sally, and the others were his life. The children were playing on the beach while a friend of the family, a black bear named Teddy or Ted for short, watched them along with his good friend, a monkey named Wang Yong. Ted was also a band player in the group Max and Bunny were in and they became good friends. Wang Yong was a monkey who enjoyed judo as a sport and taught the man, bear, and rabbit how to fight to protect their family. Wang also became good friends with the rest. When they got the news, they decided to take time off and join the little vacation. Everyone did activities together and it was super fun for everyone. Sally contacted the school, explained the situation, and asked permission from the principal if she could take the children on holiday. He agreed, on the condition that this would remain a secret from everyone. No one needed to know what really happened behind closed doors. Sally was happy and agreed. Bunny was under an umbrella with Max while Sally and Lara played volleyball. Bunny couldn't help but look at how well his wife played. Max noticed and grinned. "You know you're lucky?" Bunny looked questioningly at Max and noticed the grin on his face. He gave his best friend a nudge. He was indeed lucky. * Hours passed and it was night. Before everyone knew it, they went to their rooms. The children shared a room and so did Bunny and Sally, while the others had a separate room. But before they went to sleep, they ate a nice dinner and watched funny videos so that everyone could have a good laugh. Sally entered the room and saw that Bunny was reading. A novel book. Men can also read books if they want to and reading is good for your soul and brain. Bunny's eyes quietly closed after he read for 30 minutes. Sally smiled and knocked gently to get his attention. It worked and he looked. When he saw his wife, he smiled, put his book away on the bedside table, and opened his arms to her. Sally closed the door and lay down in his soft arms. Both lay comfortably and looked in love. But it was soon over when Bunny felt he was about to throw up, so he quickly got out of bed and went to the toilet they had in their bedroom. Sally sighed sadly and went to his side to comfort him. He was vomiting blood again. Luckily, Sally just looked at Bunny instead of the blood the entire time. It took a while for it to be over and they both went back to bed. They held each other and before they knew it, they both fell asleep.
