Laura's POV.
It's been well over a month now s ince I went to Mr Evans office in town to submit the agreement signed by Alpha Josh and me. We had been patiently waiting for word from the court through the lawyer but so far the final divorce had not yet been signed by the court.
I've been in touch with him several times to remind him but he said he's always in touch with the court and they would get in touch with us very soon.
As the waiting continued, my associates were getting more restless and some were even getting discouraged. They felt the waiting period was getting too long and something should be done about it. Of course, there's nothing anyone could do about it. We just have to wait
In order to silence the unnecessary agitation and promote a sense of belonging, I had to devise ways to keep them busy.
One of those ways while we were still in our waiting period is by taking a run occasionally. One of such runs has been fixed for today. It's only for me and my associates from the Blue Ridge Pack.
I had finished taking my breakfast. The time was a few minutes past 8 o'clock in the morning. It is a Saturday, a non working day though sometimes I do go to the office to do some work especially when there is a backlog.
Anyway, we would have the run. I had mindlinked all of them telling them about the time and the venue. The venue is very well known to everyone in this pack because it is the usual take off point for the weekly runs which the pack has organized for werewolves in this pack.
I had fixed the run to start by 9 o'clock this morning.
As soon as it was thirty minutes before the time, I found my way out of the Alpha mansion and headed towards the trail. Ten minutes later, I was right at the trail, which is just outside our pack boundaries..
By the time I reached, none of them had arrived yet. I waited and five minutes later, they started to arrive one after the other. Juliana Anderson was the first to arrive, followed by Sylvia Johnson.
Within the next five minutes, all the others had arrived. I did a quick roll call to ensure everyone was present before I addressed them briefly.
"You're all welcome to this special run. It's a long time ago we did something like this, but I will want it to be frequent especially when we move to our new Pack. This is definitely not going to be our last run as members of the Golden Emerald Pack. I see us running together at least one more time before we leave here. I wish you all a happy run."
They all nodded their heads.
"Before we shift, please take note: we would not be moving in a single file. I would take the lead while the rest of you will follow me two by two. Someone will be glancing at the left while another will be taking an occasional glance to the right as we move. One of the two wolves taking the rear would be looking back from time to time. These security measures are to help us look out for rogue wolves who may be prowling around, okay?"
They all nodded in understanding.
"Alright. You may now go behind a tree or shrub and shift into your wolves."
We all looked for a convenient tree or shrub to hide behind and shifted into our wolves.
I shifted into my brown wolf. Jason shifted into his black wolf. My baby Sarah shifted into her favorite white wolf. Others changed into their wolves as we got ready to move.
When everyone was set, I gave the signal and we took off. I led from the front while others followed me taking themselves two by two, as I had ininstructed.
As we moved deep into the forest, Lucia Jacob on the right was looking at her side from time to time while Ashley James did the same on the left hand side.
As one of the two wolves keeping the rear, it was the job of Jason Smith to look back from time to time to check that rogue wolves were not following us. And he did the job very well.
We galloped deeper and deeper into the forest for the greater part of one hour, taking particular care not to stray into enemy territory.
Soon, we reached a clearing and I signalled that we stop and take a rest. We all lay on our stomachs as we stuck out our tongues, breathing heavily. We rested there for about thirty minutes, while those who felt like drinking water drifted to the nearby Crystal River, where they drank from the clean water.
When I felt we had rested enough, I gave a signal and we continued our run. Overall, we had spent a total of two hours exploring the forest when I felt we've had enough time in the forest.
Then I signalled that we should return back to camp. We set out again running in the direction we came from, taking the precautions we took when we started out. After we had run for quite a while, we reached where we had started out from. Then I signalled that we stopped and each wolf should shift back to their human form.
Everyone went behind a tree and we shifted back to our human forms.
"Wow, this was a hell of a run," I said after we had all shifted.
"Sure, mummy," commented Sarah. "I wish it could be more regular."
Lucia said, "it was a very enjoyable run."
All the others had one good thing or the other to say about the run.
When everyone had spoken their minds, I then spoke again.
"Everyone should get ready to be called again for what would be our last run here very soon, okay?"
They all nodded.
"You may now go to your various apartments," I said.
They all left to their various living quarters and I went back to the Alpha's mansion.
Back in my room at the Alpha's mansion, I pulled off my shoes and plopped into my bed to rest for a while and catch my breath. I was so tired which is a direct fallout of the run we just completed.
As I lay on bed trying very much to rest my nerves, I could not help but reflect on what we had just done. I could see from the faces of my associates after the run that they had more confidence in themselves and in my leadership. They had looked up to me for leadership all the five years we've been here and I had never failed them. Not even after the poisoning incident did they lose confidence in me even for a minute.
All in all, I'm so glad to have organized this run for them. It promoted a spirit of togetherness which we would take to our new pack.
The Crystal River which we saw and from which some of us drank is a very clean body of water which is always a delight to watch. Several times in the past, I took a run alone or with a few other wolves just to be able to go and watch the beauty and cleanliness of that River.
Definitely, it is from the river's name that Alpha Duncan's pack got it's name. The pack is just a few hundred metres from where we took a rest and drank some water.
As I continued to process my thoughts, I slept off.
I must have slept for about two hours or thereabout, because when I woke up, the time was already a few minutes past one in the afternoon.
I climbed down from my bed, used the back of my palms to rub my still sleepy eyes, then proceeded to my bathroom to have my face washed with some cold water.
Going into the bathroom, my sole intention was to wash my face, towel it and then use the opportunity of being there to check my face in the bathroom mirror.
But things had to change. I would now have to take a hot water bath. Promptly, I filled my tub with hot water and jumped in. This bath would be very brief because I don't have all the time in the world to spare. I would have to look for another time when I could be able to spend hours in the bath tub, luxuriating and enjoying myself in the water.
But for now, my stomach is already giving me a hint and I would not be able to spend much time in the tub.
After producing a generous amount of lather, I applied it gently to all parts of my body, starting, of course from my neck and going down to the other parts. After applying the lather, I rinsed thoroughly. Some parts of my body like my armpits and the private area were washed two or three times.
After rinsing very well, I didn't wait for the water to become cold before jumping out of the tub. I towelled my body quickly and put on a pair of jeans trousers and a tank top.
I took a deep breath, looked up briefly at the ceiling and then headed towards the kitchen. In no time, I had descended the stairs and entered the kitchen to start preparing my lunch. I had consciously decided not to call Sarah she would already be tired from the run and would need ample time to rest.
It would be unjust to call her to cook for me after we had both exerted a great deal of energy, running. Even if she would not complain, it would be grossly unfair on my part
So, I opened my refrigerator and started to sort out the ingredients needed. I had already decided on a sandwich for my lunch. All the ingredients are in my refrigerator.
After sorting out everything needed and in the right quantities, I put on my stove and started the cooking. I must have been on it for about thirty minutes or thereabout when I heard footsteps outside.
Suddenly, the door opened and Shirley made to enter. She stood on a spot when she saw I was in.
"Good day, Luna," she greeted.
"Good day, Shirley," I replied.
I didn't let her speak again before I addressed her concerns.
"I know you have come to cook lunch for the Alpha. But ain't you a bit too late cooking lunch for the Alpha?" I queried.
She looked at me solemnly without saying a word.
"it's okay, my dear," I said. "I'm almost done with my own cooking. Give me a few more minutes, and then you can have the kitchen all to yourself, alright?"
She nodded and went back, closing the door of the kitchen.
Soon, my food was ready and I served it, taking it upstairs, accompanied, of course with a bottle of fruit juice.
When I got to my room, I set the tray down on a low stool and started to enjoy the food, sipping my fruit juice to complement it.
