You can't have both

Amelia POV

We all gather in the living room as soon as the King leaves with his son. I have all the pack members I trust most here with me. Chad has been missing for over 5 hours, even Annabel has come back and she has no idea where he is. "Where do we start looking"? Eric asks and everyone pays attention. "I think I know where he is. I am going to go there myself while everyone else looks elsewhere. Jay, I am sure Eric has briefed you on the situation"? I ask and he stands up. "Yes Alpha. I would like permission to leave right away" he says and I nod to him as he walks out.

"Alright, Annabel and Lila, you stay here. Eric, go with Jake. Take a couple of warriors to help you search for Chad" I tell them and the boys leave, the girls sit on the couches. "Forgetting someone Alpha"? Aiden asks, folding his arms. "You stay here Alpha. I am going to...." he stops me. "I'm coming with you" he says with a shrug. "There is no way I'm going to let you go on your own" he adds, leaving little room for argument.

"Fine. Lets go then" I say, rolling my eyes. We get in the forest and he starts taking his clothes off. I turn around, giving him privacy and he laughs. "What's wrong Alpha? Afraid of temptation"? He asks with a chuckle. "I am trying to respect your privacy" I say and he continues laughing at me. He suddenly goes quiet and I feel a large snout nudging me from the back. I turn around coming face to face with a large black wolf. He licks my face and gives me a wolfish grin when I start laughing. "Hi, you are pretty one" I say to him and he licks my face again.

"Alright, let me shift" I say to him and moves back as I shift into Kara. He comes back closer and lays his large head on top of mine,keeping it there for a while before moving back and we start running towards the mountains. I have a feeling we are going to find Chad in the same cave we stayed at after our pack was slaughtered. He always goes there every time he does not feel well and the place helps calm him because, in his words, the cave reminds him that there always will be a solution and a new start.

Kara starts running a bit slower when we approach the cave, getting inside and looking around. Chad is laying there in wolf form, his ears perking up and he stands up as he notices us. He hangs his head low, in shame and I decide to link him. ' We will go outside and give you a chance to shift back' I tell him as I signal for Aiden's wolf to follow me. We stand outside for a bit before I shift back and walk back inside to find Chad already in his shorts, sitting on the floor.

I look at the black wolf with me, hoping he understands I need him to grant us some privacy and he turns around walking out.

Chad POV

I knew it was only a matter of time before Amelia found me. She could have come here sooner but she gave me time to think and I really appreciate her for that. I just....it all feels a little too much now. A lot has happened and all too soon. I mean yes I am happy I found my mate, Eric found his second chance as well but now there is a whole prophecy which apparently, I play a significant role in. Not to mention finding out that everything I have ever known about myself is a lie.

I am not just a wolf, but I am a demon as well. My father is actually my uncle and my mother is out there somewhere running a whole pack with her mate. Who isn't my father. This whole thing is just fxcked up and it's really stressing me out. Amelia comes back and she does not say anything for a while. I know she is waiting for me to say something but what do I say? 'Tell her how you really feel' Anders, my wolf says to me and he is right. Amelia is the only person I can truly be myself with.

"Its all too much now. It's all weighing heavily on me and I am afraid I can't handle it" I say, feeling dejected. How am I the Prince of hell if I feel so powerless? "I'm being weak aren't I"? I ask her and she hugs my waist. "No. You are not being weak. It is okay to feel overwhelmed by everything going on. You are a real person, with feelings" she says, holding me tightly with her head on my chest. "Tell me how you feel" she says softly, letting me go slowly and staring up at me. I move away from her, sitting on the floor, with my hands covering my face.

"I am scared. What if my real parents don't want me? What if I can't handle the power that comes with being a demon? What if I fail and I can't protect you"? I tell her,feeling the tears fall before I can even stop them. I have not cried since our parents died and now here I am, crying because I'm afraid. "It's okay to feel scared. You have every right to feel like that. Everything you have ever known is changing and it is okay to feel some type of way about it" Amelia says, getting on her knees in front of me and hugging me.

"I am scared too but I know I have you and the others and if there is anything I am sure of, is that you would never let me fail. You have my back the same way i have yours and thats all that matters to me. We'll figure this out together okay"? She says and I can hear her voice start to break as she cries with me. We stay in that position a while before I push her off. And she falls on her back, she glares at me before we both start laughing. "Lets just go you i***t. Your mate is stressed out" she says pulling me up.

"You brought you mate with you to our secret hideout"? I ask and she rolls her eyes. "He would not take no for an answer" she says guiltily. "You wanted him to come with you. That's why you did not even argue with him when he offered" I tell her, with finality. No one can force Amelia to do something she does not want to do and I know for sure not even her mate can force her to do anything. And right now, her not answering me is all the answer I need. "You are falling for him" I say before I shift into Anders and walk away.

Amelia POV

We run back to the packhouse but I can hardly concentrate on anything thinking of what Chad said to me. Am I falling for Aiden? I can't be. All this will be a distraction. I can't fall for him, I still have to deal with his father and I can't let anything distract me from avenging my parents. Father in law or Not, he will pay for what he did. We reach the house and I shift back running inside the house not waiting for the others. "Did I strike a nerve Alpha"! Chad shouts from behind me before laughing and I choose to ignore him.

"Where is He"? Annabel asks before running to Chad. "Lunch is ready Alpha. Should I set the table"? Miranda, one of the kitchen staff asks. "Yes please do. But Beta Jake and I will have lunch in my office" I tell her and Jake wiggles his eyebrows. "A date with the Alpha. Lucky me" he says wrapping his arms around Aiden, who looks upset, to say the least. "What about me"? He asks and I shake my head. "It's a private conversation" I tell him. He nods but pushes Jake away as the latter laughs at him.

Jake and I head to my office and Miranda brings our food to us. I look at Jake sternly as the door closes. "What did I do"? He asks, mouth already full of food. "We need to talk about what you did earlier" I tell him and he sits up straight and swallows hard. "I know it was unexpected but it felt right at that moment. I dont know why but i felt the need to stay with you, especially after he...." He says earnestly. "Are you sure about this Jake? I don't want you regretting it later on"? I ask him and he nods. "I am sure" he tells me with a smile.

I stand up from my seat, grabbing a dagger from a drawer and I cut my palm as he gives me his to cut as well. "Do you Jake Adams swear to be an exceptional member of Shadow Pack? To always care for and protect every member, regardless of age and rank? Do you swear to be loyal and respectful to me as your Alpha"? I ask him and he smiles. "I swear it on my life. swear to be respectful, loyal to you and the rest of the pack. I will hand over my life, protecting you and all of the pack members" he says as I feel the connection to him grow and a link starts to form.

'Everybody, welcome our newest member, Jake Adams' I say through the pack link as everyone welcomes him. "Thank you Alpha" he says with a genuine smile before getting back to his plate of food. Once he and I finish our food, he takes our plates out. "When you come back, please bring Aiden, Justin, Chad and Eric? There is something we need to talk about " I tell him and he nods, walking out. I have been thinking about something lately and I need to discuss it with the guys even though I know Eric and Chad may not approve.

The guys come back and Justin stands by the door with his neck bared. "I need to talk to you guys about something" I start, looking at each one of their faces for a reaction. "I would like to go to Moon Stone Pack tomorrow. There is a lot that I need to sort out and Aiden's pack is where i need to start" I tell them, watching their faces change and they all look at me funny. Chad however, has a knowing look on his face. "Is there something you need there? I can send someone over to get it for you" Aiden says and I shake my head. "No, I just have this feeling that I need to go to your pack. Please" I really can't tell him my suspicions before I am sure of everything.

"I guess we should prepare"? Eric asks looking at Chad and I stop them. "No. I will only be taking Jake with me. I need you two here when my grandfather comes back. We do not know when i will be back and with the recent attack, i need yoy two here" I tell them and they visibly get angry. "No way. Not that I do not trust Jake to take care of you but there is no way you are leaving without me" Chad says, even though he knows it's pointless to argue with me. I have made up my mind and no one will change it.

"Jake, please pack up. We leave in the morning" I say looking at Aiden and he smiles but it does not quite reach his eyes. "I guess we should pack as well"? Justin asks and I nod to him. "Lets go kiddo" Jake says to him as they walk out. "Who is the kid"? Justin asks. Chad and Eric both walk out both not before giving me looks, and they are not pleasing. "Can we talk"? Aiden asks softly. "Can we talk later? I need to catch up on a few stuff please"? He nods and walks out closing the door behind him.

Catching up on a few stuff turned into endless hours of working and I get a mindlink from Jake. 'Two things, one I'm really enjoying being able to link you any time that I want. Two, you missed dinner' he says and only then I check the time. 'Why did you let me work so long'? I ask and he laughs. 'I don't know how many times people knocked on your door and you did not respond' he says in a matter of factly tone. 'I am not hungry anyway. I will just go shower and sleep' I tell him and he snorts. 'As if anyone will let you sleep on an empty stomach' he says before closing the link.

I pack up the paperwork I was working on and i go to my bedroom. Aiden is sitting on the bed looking at his hands. He raises his head to look at me and smiles sadly. "What's wrong"? I ask him and he does not answer. "You haven't eaten yet" he says pointing at a covered plate on my side table. "We should talk first" I say to him and he nods. I go over and sit next to him. "You can't have both" I say. He turns to look at me, clearly confused. "What do you mean"? I take a deep breath holding his face with my hands.

"Me and Melissa. You keep giving me signs that you care but you are still dating her. You cannot have both. What do you really want Aiden? Because my life is complicated already and I do not need any more complications" I tell him. Realization dawns on his face and he looks down in shame. "She is all i have thought of mating. Not because of love, she is almost the most beautiful woman in the pack" he explains. I won't lie and say his words do not hurt me because they do but I try putting on a mask.

"I never thought I would ever meet my mate and not be able to reject her. Honestly, I never wanted to be with my fated mate but meeting you, I cant imagine myself with anyone else. I want to be with you, and only you" he says taking my hands in his. "Please accept me" he says kissing my hands softly. "I can't accept you as my mate. Yet. Just give me time"? I ask and he nods. "Anything you want my love".
