CHAPTER ONE
If someone had told me I'd be in this kinda situation, I'd have laughed at their faces. The thought of ever leaving Damien seemed impossible, he was the love of my life and I thought I was his too, but it turned out, Kath, his supposed ex, was the love of his life. I can't get the image of both of them in bed having s*x off my mind, it's going to haunt me forever. Of all the people he decided to cheat on me with, he chose her. A few days later, only to learn I was just a silly bet, to see if Damien could get the poor strong-headed virgin girl, that just added more salt to my wounds. There's nothing left here for me anymore, everything reminds me of him, he was literally my everything. I gave my all, he even had the guts to talk about marriage and children with me. I thought I had found my soulmate, someone I've got to spend forever with. But now I have to leave to start afresh. I can't have him looking for me everywhere or showing up at my office with a bunch of flowers and apologizing. "Hey ma'am, are you okay?" I looked up to see I was already in front of the flight attendant, I can't even remember how I got there. I must have been so lost in my thoughts. "Yeah, I'm fine," I stated, smiling briefly at her. "You don't look like it", she placed tissues in my palm. "Take this" I looked at my hand and at her in confusion, what do I need this for? "Your tears", I touched my cheeks, and truly they were wet. I quickly dabbed my cheeks, "Thanks" How the f**k am I crying, and I didn't even know? I looked down at my boarding pass to find my seat number. "It's the one on your right, the window seat." I started to walk away to my seat before she thought I was crazy, but after a few steps she stopped me. "Hey, come with me", she joined her hands with me and pulled me further, to the first class section. She directed me to an empty seat, "You can take this, you look like you need it", she winked at me and walked away. I smiled at myself, looking around at the other sophisticated people dressed in expensive suits and dresses. This is Damien's world. But I don't mind luxury. I settled into my seat, I'm so not leaving this cabin until we land in San Francisco. I picked up the magazine on the table only to see Damien's face, boldly plastered on the front cover. I groaned and slammed it back on the table. Even on a plane he's here, I couldn't help myself but turn back to stare at his beautifully sculpted face. The same face I hated at first but came to love so heartedly. I remember the first time I met him at the coffee shop, I mistakenly spilled hot coffee on Kath, his then girlfriend. I apologized profusely, but she wasn't having it. She went frantic, going off about what I did, rude b***h she was. I couldn't just stand and watch her rain insults on me, I defended myself but, of course, I got fired. I didn't know who he was then or that she was a popular model. I was told after being fired by the manager. I looked them up, they were the 'It Couple'. A girl so beautiful with a nasty attitude, my only consolation was that I bruised her. Then he kept showing up in places I was quite annoyed. I never even wanted to date him in the first place. How could I be attracted to someone who made me lose my job? I got fired without being paid completely. I was in dire need of a new job, when his personal assistant, a very close customer at the café, Rita, offered me a job in his company, although I didn't know it was his then. I worked at the café there. I worked there for 3 months before I met him. I still remember the first conversation I had with him. It wasn't a pretty conversation. Rita told me to help her serve her boss his early morning coffee as she was running a bit late. I've heard a lot of things about the ruthless boss, his coffee had to be in his office when he arrived. I put his black coffee on the tray and decided to add some snacks, a little sweetness to his life. He definitely needs it. I took the elevator to the top floor where his office was. I walked fast, got to the door, took a deep breath and knocked, no response. I knocked again, still no response, I tried the doorknob and it opened. I pushed it open, the office was empty, I would just drop the coffee and get back outside, but curiosity got the best of me. I snooped around, admiring his office. It was so modern, but I felt like something was missing. I got carried away by the artwork on his wall and that's when it hit me. There were no single pictures of him in his offices, nor any family pictures. It was just so plain and simple. I didn't hear the door creak open until someone touched my shoulder. I jumped in shock, turned around slowly, like a thief caught in the act. I recognized him immediately and so did he. "You!" We stated at the same time. I frowned at him. "What the f**k are you doing here?"I criss-crossed my hands, glaring at him. "I should be asking you that", his nose flared in annoyance. "I work here, Rita asked me to drop off a cup of coffee for her……boss", I snickered. Of course, he is the boss, a ruthless boss with a b***h of a girlfriend, a perfect match made in heaven. "Makes sense", I grumbled. "What did you say?" He stepped closer. "Enjoy your coffee", I smirked, "Choke on it", I muttered, hit his shoulder lightly as I walked out of the office. I stormed to the elevator, if not that I really needed this job, I would have submitted my resignation letter. I'd just have to endure till I find another job. ~~~PRESENT A flight attendant walked up to me to take my orders, I didn't even realize we'd taken off already. I settled for a cheese sandwich, Chicken Pasta Salad and a mocktail. The hostess shortly came back with it. Immediately she dropped it on the table, the smell irritated me. The smell of pasta made me nauseated. I drank water to push it down, but it didn't do anything, it only made it worse. I sprung up, placed my hand over my mouth and rushed to the restroom, and puked all my guts into the toilet. Lately it's been hard to keep food down, Chicken Pasta Salad is one of my favorite foods, and now it disgusts me, I can't eat it for comfort anymore. I flushed the toilet and stepped out. I looked at my face in the mirror, I looked so sick. I washed my face and rinsed my mouth, I dried my hands and wiped my face dry. I've never been sick on an airplane before. Oh well, there is a first for everything, I pinched my cheeks a little to look less pale, then stepped out of the restroom, back to my seat. The host was gone and so was my Pasta, I took a bite of the cheese sandwich and it was so good. The hostess returned, "I just came to check on you" "Thanks……", I peered at her tag to see her name, "Mira, and it wasn't the food, I've just not been feeling too well lately. She lets put a breath, "Oh thank God, I was wondering what feedback I'd have to give the chef" She furrowed her brows, moved closer to me, "You look pale", she touched my forehead, "And you're heating up, let me get you some drugs to keep the fever at bay." She came back with chicken soup and more cheese sandwiches and Advil. "This should help" "Thanks" "You're welcome…..", she started. "Aurora", I finished it for her. "That's a beautiful name", she smiled. "Thanks", "Signal me if you need anything", she left to attend to others. The chicken soup with the cheese sandwich was so good, I took medicine after eating, it helped with the fever and headaches. Mira kept coming back every few minutes just to check up on me, I hope she wins employee of the month. I felt so sleepy, I still had a long flight ahead of me, so I dozed off. ~~~~~~ My eyes fluttered open, Mira's face was the first thing I saw, I couldn't make out what she was saying. I sat up and looked around, people were leaving their seats already. "We just landed", Mira said. "Oh, thanks", I rubbed my eyes, to ward off sleepiness. I sighed, I stood up, carried my bag and walked to the restroom. I stared at myself once again in the mirror, my hair was in total disarray. I took out the hairbrush, and ran it through my hair, added more lip gloss to look better. I put them all in and stepped out of the restroom and headed out of the plane. I found my bag and quickly got a taxi, I stared at the buildings as we drove by. My new life starts here. I'll take a walk after I've settled in. But right now, I just want to get to my house and crash. I don't have the strength to do anything. I got to my apartment pretty fast. There's less traffic here than in New York. Thank God for that. I paid the driver and dragged my suitcase into the building. I took the elevator to the 3rd floor. The key was sent to me a few days ago. I got to my door and opened it up. It was exactly as I thought it would be, fully furnished. It was a bit pricey, as expected, but it's worth it. I rolled my luggage to the room, stripped and crashed on the bed.
