Violet came back to the apartment in a flurry of excitement. She was beaming ear to ear and oblivious to the fact that I was packing the few meager belongings that we owned.
“Maddy guess what? Iris is having a party tonight, she invited us to come. Her nephew is in town and wants to introduce….why are you packing?” She sat down on the edge of the bed in stunned silence.
“We need to leave and get as far away from here as we can.” I looked around and sighed, most of the stuff was bought from the Thrift store or borrowed. It was just stuff it doesn’t mean anything. Safety was all that mattered.
“Why do we have to leave?” I glanced at Violet and almost forgot how young she was.
“I came across someone dangerous today.” How could I explain the emotions and feelings that man stirred in me? Her eyes went wide and she paled.
“Are we in danger now? I will pack my stuff.” I sighed and put a hand on my stomach, the baby had been more active than usual since that last encounter. It was as if the child could sense the danger of that man as well.
A knock on the door made me freeze and my throat close up. This was it, Evan’s men finally found us. Violet stood up on shaky legs and shot another glance in my direction.
“Whatever it is, we will face it head on.” She nodded and opened the door. We both let out a collective sigh as Iris stood on the other side of the threshold.
“Goodness, you two look like you have seen a ghost.” Iris stared with wide eyes.
“Sorry, we decided to move on. I appreciate what you have done for us so far.” Iris continued to stare with confusion. I guess it made sense, she opened her territory to us and now we were leaving for no reason.
“I came to invite you to our pack house tonight to meet my nephew and to get to know the rest of the pack members.” She was desperate, why was she so desperate for Violet and I to be there?
“Aunt Iris, you should respect their wishes for wanting to go.” My body grew rigid and my pulse skyrocketed. I felt a tightness in my chest as the man from earlier stepped into our living room.
He saw me standing next to my opened suitcase and his brow furrowed.
“This is my nephew, Felix Montgomery.” I moved away and shrank back from Felix’s outstretched hand. He frowned and continued to stare at me.
I didn’t know what to say, he made me nervous and I did not want to touch him again.
“I’m sorry to see you two go but know that our territory is always open to you and you are welcome back.” Iris hugged Violet and patted my shoulder. I stiffened under her touch and she sighed.
My heart was racing a mile a minute and I felt faint.
“Are you all right? You look very pale and…” I let out a small groan and slid to the floor as blackness closed in around me.
I felt my body jolt with electricity and I wanted to scream out in pain but I was being lifted off the floor and people were screaming my name.
Every move was like agony and fire rippling through my very being. Something inside of me broke and I felt like I was going to burn from the inside out.
I fell down the inner spiral of pain and wished for life to end. Anything was better than this.
