I noticed Anna looking at me by the entrance of the library, but she seemed somehow unfocused, lost in thought rather than eyeing me. I was a little offended by that, I may not know her taste in men but I'm pretty sure I'm worth admiring.
When she noticed me glancing back the way she announced to me that dinner was ready. She led me through her maze-like house to the kitchen where a basic meal was waiting for me. Even if the dishes were quite simple for my taste they were actually really tasty, She was nervously waiting for my compliments of the food, she had those huge lovely puppy eyes waiting for my approval of the dishes.
They are delicious! Thank you for preparing them and sorry for the bother!
Oh no! There is no problem, you are my guest so it's my pleasure to make you feel comfortable! she said while looking away, probably because this was the first time she cooked for a complete stranger. Although I invaded her space she did make me feel comfortable, probably because of her calm and composed aura.
So you and your father live here by yourselves?
Yes! My mother died while having me! So it's always been just the two of us. Well, there is the help of course, but I gave them an unannounced paid vacation because I couldn't explain the mess and my father's disappearance.
Mess? What mess? The house seems fine to me.
There is the living room that we use for parties that are torn apart. I believe when the intruders arrived they broke through the terrace that leads there.
Maybe I could help you fix it!
Oh! I couldn't ask you to do that, besides I don't even know if it's worth saving.
Trust me I got the perfect thing that will help me fix it in a few.
Really? What could it be?
I have a magic hourglass that can reverse time for objects. I'm sure it will come in handy on many occasions from now on.
After we ate she led me to the living room. Boy, it was huge, I mean this was what we call a ballroom not a living room. It really was a mess, almost every piece of furniture was broken and there were even holes in the walls not to mention the floor.
Anna had this worried look on her face but I made sure she relaxed and took a step back. I pulled the hourglass out of my bag and asked Anna the exact date it happened and fixed the hourglass. Instantly everything started to move and not only did we fix the room but we were also able to rewind the events and clearly see everything as it happened,
We had played the events backwards, we saw how my master took her father, his talk with Anna, how she was hiding behind an armchair and the look on her face was disturbing she was so frightened at the time. Then we saw the events before Anna was witnessing and something felt rather eerie to me. It seemed that the three men were indeed Omertians but it seemed like they did not fight Anna's dad but were rather working with him. They destroyed the room on purpose so that the master would not suspect a thing, that Anna's dad deliberately gave them the key. But why? We waited for a little more and discovered that there were four Omertians that arrived in the first place it was hard to recognize either one of them because they wore dark cloaks but the fourth man gave off a very familiar feeling.
Now everything was clean. The hourglass has worked but not the way we had expected. It surely gave us the main lead.
I turned to the side to face Anna who was processing everything she saw at the last minute. She had the cutest frown on her face. She was really worried and I would have been the same if I were in her shoes. Now honestly who wouldn't? Even if she probably doesn't realise this she is pretty strong mentally for someone who seems so frail.
So my father was conscious the whole time?! This has to be some kind of lie! Maybe he was enchanted or something. There could be so many explanations. There has to be at least one that doesn't make my father a villain. I was frozen upstairs and I thought he fought them off, or at least he tried. It was a blood-curling experience and I have blamed myself every second since then. If I wasn't so scared now I would have known the truth.
Anna was confused, she was desperately trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together but unfortunately, she was missing the most important one. Even if she spoke calmly the sadness that possessed her very soul grew in her voice by every word she pronounced.
It's ok you don't have to blame yourself! If there is someone at fault that is your father. You did not have any idea about us until recently and judging by the piles of books and reports that you gathered in the library you did everything in your power to catch up on your own. I admire that about you. You should be proud of yourself.
I tried to lift her spirit at least for a while. You could read in her now teary eyes how determined she was to figure out the whole truth. That was the look of a true guardian.
Thank you, Lexus! Even if we are complete strangers you still were compassionate towards me. That is a very rare trait one gains nowadays. It is quite late so we should probably head upstairs. Please feel free to use any room you like. Have a good night!
She did not even give me a chance to at least answer back as she hurried upstairs. I remained dumbfounded for a whole minute. I just thought she was embarrassed about nearly crying in front of me and hurried into her room to bawl her eyes out as any girl would do. Instead, while I was trying to find a room in this enormous house I spotted her down the long hall carrying some books back to her room probably. She was really overworking herself. I respect her wish to gain as much knowledge as humanly possible or maybe even more until we will cross dimensions. She was an extraordinary human, she was so much more than I had ever expected and I kind of liked that. I feel like we could really rely on each other in the future.
