Chapter 5

1224 Words
Missy The three of us have a meeting set up with the local Alpha, even though we are not here to cause problems for his pack, I am still nervous about this meeting. If he doesn’t like what we have to say or he thinks my past could somehow cause problems to his pack he has every right to ask us to leave since he has a vested interest in the local town. Daryl and Lacy are working on breakfast while I set the table, start the coffee and make orange juice. They don’t seem as worried as me, however since Lacy’s mate is the packs beta and Daryl seems to like this new town, I will offer to leave if my friends can stay if it comes to that. I know they will argue with me but I don’t want my problems to affect them. They brought the food to the table and we all sat down to pancakes, eggs and bacon. It smelled delicious and my stomach started to grumble. Daryl started to chuckle, “Well we know Missy is hungry, go ahead and dig in while it’s still hot.” We ate in silence, I polished off two pancakes coated in butter and syrup, along with some eggs and bacon. Once I was full I got up to start cleaning the dishes because we still didn’t have to leave for an hour. “I can sense your nervousness from here Missy, you need to calm down, this meeting will go just fine. You know Alpha Billy will vouch for us too if we need it, you have done nothing wrong and you're not here to cause problems.” Lacy was doing her best to calm my nerves, and deep down I know everything she is saying is true but I still can’t help it. I finished up the dishes while they wiped down the table, we took our coffees and went to sit out on the porch and enjoy the fresh morning air. “When we get home we should all go on a run if there’s time before we go to work, my wolf has been harassing me about getting out for a bit, I don't know about you both. I know Nova has been getting antsy too, “I am good for that too.” Daryl nodded in agreement as well, we finished up our coffee, put the cups in the sink and grabbed our stuff to head out. Aiden had sent us directions to the Red Moon pack and said they left word of our arrival to the guards at the gate when we arrived so there won’t be any issues. It took us about a half hour to get to the pack, and once we told the guards who we were they pointed us in the direction we needed to go to get to the pack house. When we pulled up to the packhouse I was amazed, it blew our old packhouse away. This mansion was 5 stories high and I was only looking at the front, I wondered how far back it went. As we walked up the steps to the door, it opened and Aiden walked straight up and pulled Lacy into his arms. I smiled and waited for them to be done greeting each other, when I looked over at Daryl he was smiling for his friend too but I also saw the longing in his eyes. I know he has been anxious to meet his mate, maybe he will find her here too, so I said a quick prayer to the goddess to help my friend also find his other half. “Okay love birds we need to get to our meeting and you are going to make us late.” I was only partially joking but it was funny to see how red my friend got when she stepped back from Aiden. He immediately pulled her to his side so they could walk in together. We walked inside the house and was awed by the interior of all warm colors and the woodwork and staircase seemed to be mahogany wood and everything was immaculate. “I love all the woodwork in here.” I was in awe as we walked up the staircase to the second-floor which Aiden said the offices are all situated on. As we walked I started smelling a woodsy pine scent and as we walked down the hallway it kept getting stronger. Dread started to fill me, I can’t go through this again. Everything that happened with Connor was coming back to me. How do I know that I won’t go through all of this again. I started to slow my pace as they walked ahead of me. Aiden stopped at a door towards the end of the hallway and knocked. I heard a growl and a deep voice say “ENTER!” Hearing that voice caused a shudder of pleasure to run down my spine. I can’t go in there, I need to get out of here before he sees me. “Mate!” I hear the voice growl out. Aiden and Lacy who were standing in the doorway still suddenly looked my way, Aiden with a huge grin and Lacy with a look of concern. I start edging backwards the way we came. I see Aiden catch my movements and his grin falls and he starts moving my way. “Missy, wait everything will be okay!” I still keep walking backwards and I turn to run back towards the entrance. I hear Aiden keep calling and then his Alpha that he scared me away. I am just getting back to the stairs when sparks take over as I am lifted into someone's arms. Well not just someone's arms, it was my second chance mate's arms. He buried his face into my neck, “Please don’t run away from me mate.” “No no no I can’t go through this again. Please let me go, I can’t be hurt again by another mate.” Tears were running down my face and my mate was trying to sooth me as I had a complete meltdown in his arms. “Alpha let us talk to her, maybe we can help.” Lacy was trying to persuade my mate to let me go only to have him hold me tighter and growl. “Please Alpha, my friend has been through a lot and what you are doing right now is scaring her.” He was reluctant to let me go but he slowly set me back down on the ground. I kept my head down until I heard him begrudgingly walk away, Daryl and Lacy guided me to a room to talk. Nothing will change how I feel though, another mate is the last thing I want right now. “Missy I know you are scared to have a second chance mate, but don’t shut him out yet, give him a chance to talk to you. Aiden does nothing but brag about how great his Alpha is and I can’t see you being given two mates that would betray you.” I know she is trying to make me feel better but the fact of the matter was I am not ready to deal with any of this.
