Chapter 3

Kade

I sat back listening to my mom go on and on about how I need to settle down and choose a Luna since I have not found my mate yet. I understand that she loves me and just wants me to have someone there to help me since I have been in charge of the pack for the last 5 years since I turned 18. My dad was hesitant at first, wanting to wait until I found my mate but I assured him that I could handle it with my beta Aiden. I know they want me to just take a chosen mate, and I know who they would prefer, but I don’t want to just settle for someone that is not my goddess given mate. My parents have hinted numerous times they wanted me to take Aiden’s sister Molly as a chosen mate. She is only a year younger than Aiden and I, she has beta blood, and she is from a family we are all familiar with. I have known Molly all my life, and yes I am nice to her because our families have been friends forever, but it is annoyingly obvious that she wants me and she is not my mate.

“Kade sweetheart, your father and I really think you should reconsider your decision to wait for your mate. She may not show up anytime in the near future and you need a Luna by your side to help support you and supply you with heirs. Molly would be the ideal choice because you know her, she wants to be with you, and she would give you strong pups.” My mom keeps repeating the same argument each day. I don’t know if there is any new way I can decline the same points she makes. I roll my eyes and stand up from my desk, “Mom, I love you but you need to stop. Molly will not be my chosen mate ever, and I don’t care if I have to wait another 10 years, I will wait until I find my mate. Please stop bugging me with this and don’t give Molly false hope that you will change my mind.” I escorted her to the door and let her out only to see Molly standing there with a huge smile on her face. I don’t have the patience for this any longer so I just closed the door after I let my mom out and walked back to my desk rubbing my face with both of my hands. I had just sat down when Aiden burst through my office door, and I glared at him.

“What?” He looked at me with confusion and I growled at him. “I love how you think you can just burst through my office door without knocking, you are lucky that you are my best friend otherwise I would kick your a** right now.”

“Wow! Who p****d you off today? I just came here to update you on some things I heard from Bobby over at the bar. He just said he had someone come in inquiring about either bartending or being a bouncer and he really likes this guy. He knows you usually let him handle the day to day operation of the bar but he has a suspicion this guy might be a wolf. He doesn’t get any bad vibes from the guy but it turns out he just moved into the area with two of his friends.” Bobby was a human that was familiar with wolves mainly because he was mated to one of our pack wolves. I let him deal with the bar much like I do with any of the managers of the business I own. If this guy is a wolf and moved here with two friends, then there is a good chance that they are wolves too. “Aiden I want you to go meet this guy, and if he is a wolf I want you to get his story and I would like you to meet his friends too. Find out why they are here, I really don’t want anyone here that could be trouble for our pack even if they are living in the human town.” He nodded and said he would check it all out and get back to me.

Once Aiden left I went back to my work but my thoughts kept going back to what Aiden told me. I wonder who these people are and part of me wants to go with Aiden to check them out myself, in fact my wolf Phoenix was restless right now and starting to drive me crazy. “What’s your deal right now, why are you pacing?” Phoenix’s only response that we would have to wait to find out and it would be soon. I just ignored him and tried to focus on the work I wanted to get knocked out before the end of the day. I was just finishing up some paperwork when there was a knock on my office door, sighing I told the person to come in. Molly walked into my office with a confident smile still plastered to her face. “What do you need Molly, I was just finishing up here and if this is in reference to what my mother was talking about earlier I don’t have time for anymore of that.”

Her smile slipped a little, “Alpha I just wanted to let you know that I really think your mother’s idea makes sense. I would be a great Luna for you, and I am familiar with pack business and we would have strong pups between the both of us. I wanted you to know that I want this too and I hoped I could get you to consider this with more favor.”

When will this be over and how many times do I have to repeat myself! I took some deep breaths and lightly took her by the shoulders and guided her out of my office stating that this would not happen and there was no chance of us being chosen mates and I don’t want to hear anything more about it. I mindlinked Aiden to have a talk with his parents and his sister about this and to tell them to drop this topic. I won’t take kindly to this being brought up again and there will be consequences if it is, I already talked to my mom but I will tell her again to drop it. Aiden told me he would take care of it and he was irritated they are not dropping it either because he knows how I feel about it. I reminded him to keep me posted on what he found out regarding the newcomers and then cut the link. I then linked my mom and said if she was behind Molly showing up here to stop pushing this.

The next day Aiden returned to the pack and came to my office to relay his findings. “Kade, I agree with Bobby and I don’t get bad vibes from him either and he is a wolf along with his two female friends. He was shocked when I walked in to meet him and at first I could see he was a bit guarded but he was willing to share his story. Apparently one of the friends he came with was mated to the pack Beta for the White Moon pack. He said that his friend caught her mate cheating on her with one of their other supposed friends. She went to the pack alpha that she grew up with also and told him what was going on, she asked to leave the pack because she needed to be away from both her mate and friend. The alpha approved of her leaving and when she went to reject her mate the alpha commanded him to accept the rejection. They just moved here because his friend, Melissa, wanted a fresh start far away. Apparently they didn’t realize they were close to a pack here, nor that the pack owns most of the businesses in that town. The girls Melissa and Lacy are working with Helen over at the restaurant, I went over and talked to her and she was raving about the girls and how much she loves them. They were actually there in the back filling out their paperwork.”

“Did you meet them too since they were there?” I was anxious to find out details about them. He grinned at me, “Of course I did and I did you one even better, I have a copy of their paperwork also so you can look over their information since they technically work for us. He walked up to my desk and I started getting whiffs of strawberries and cream and it smelled amazing. I found myself breathing in deeply and Aiden gave me a weird look. “Dude, what’s up with you right now?” I needed to focus, so I looked back at him, “What did you think of the girls and did you get any bad vibes from them?” He just grinned at me and then filled me in on what happened.
