Mason
The next day
Walking down the hall I try to hid my rage, my hands balls into a fist. Replaying the image of Liv crying all night. We fell asleep on facetime. Even with her sound off. I knew she was crying about Travis. The main reason for her to come out was to have fun. To be happy again. But her night ended up worst than we thought.
"Don't lose your cool." Oliver tries to calm me down but it didn't work.
"He just left her there. Alone! In the dark, while she was crying! Aren't you mad too!" I ask Oliver. He turns around and huffs a nod. "So then let me be." Oliver knows all too well to step in when I'm in heat like this.
I'm not mad that he and Liv are mates. I'm mad with the way he handle everything. He knows how hard life has been for her. I ask him to do one God damn thing! And he couldn't hold up his end. I don't understand why he just left her crying. There's more to it but I just can't get over the fact of how upset Liv was last night. It was like she was going through her break up again. And it killed me to see her so hurt. All that old feelings, just coming up again. It took months to get her to stop crying.
So just like Travis demanded, I took care of the girls and left him be. But now it's a new day. And he needs to man up and set things straight with Liv. I will not have him break her heart. She barely healed from the last one. And he needs to learn to take a chance for once. They're f*****g mates.
I made it to the meeting room. I kept telling myself to wait until it's done before blowing my head. But as soon as I open the door and saw his face. My rage took over and I attack him.
"Beta what the f**k!" Travis yelled after I punch him in the face.
I gave him a shove and he almost fell over. I went in for another punch with my left hand and he dodge it. He dodge another punch and makes it around me. I turn quick and again he dodge. I let my claws out and this time I connect to his face. Dripping blood on his shirt.
"f**k! Mason! Calm down!"
"You just left her there! She was crying all night." Dodge me again, making another turn around. Travis was avoiding hitting me back. "You made her hate herself because of you!"
Travis grab my arm and push me down. "She said no. I stop!" I growl and got back up.
I attack again and Travis block my hit after hit. Shoving away from him. "Mason, just stop!" He yelled.
I went for another attack but he got smart. Before I can attack him again. His leg catch me and I fell on my ass.
"You hurt her!" I yelled.
"I saved her!" When I look up to meet his face. It match Liv's. That look of unloved guilt.
"What?" I asked. I can see his eyes was fill with pain. Something I haven't seen in him in a long, long time.
"Ohh come on Mason. Why would she want to be my mate, huh? Have you not seen my life." I got up and fix my clothes. "Your precious Liv is better off without a heartless, manic, blood craving Alpha who can't love for s**t!" Travis's face was emotionless but his words says it all.
"Why you left her there Travis?" It was the one question I needed to know.
He chuckle and wiped his grin away. "Because she knows all too well how unmateable I am. I hated seeing her like that as much as you did. So I left, she seemed like she made her decision on me already." Travis spit the blood from his lip. Swelling from the corner.
"Travis that's wasn't why she was upset. You think it was because of you. And she thinks it was because of her." Travis sat down on his chair and his eyes looked lost. Like I said some hidden word.
"Look I can't explain her feelings because you two need to talk to each other for that. But the both of you have the wrong idea on this whole thing." I took my seat next to him and he just look at the table.
"She's better off with someone else." I chuckle. Remembering she said the same about him.
"She thinks the same about you. But honesty, you two would be epically perfect." Travis didn't look at me, he was too lost in his head. And I wonder what he was thinking. Goddess knows Travis beats himself. Something his father did to him growing up.
A woman's laugh busted in the air. Breaking the silence. "Goddess what the f**k had I miss? Mates? Tantrums? Runaway groom and bride?" Gamma Sarah laugh.
"Travis mated with my friend Liv. And the both of them are being stubborn children." I explain. Travis growl to himself.
"The witch girl you talk about nonstop?" I nod a yes and she laugh again.
"Okay enough. My love life is non of you guys business. So move forward!" Travis demanded but both me and Gamma chuckle.
"Sorry Alpha but with all do respect, it is a little." Travis rolled his eyes, knowing being a mated Alpha means a big deal.
"At least I got one, unlike the either of you two."
I frown while Oliver whines in my head. The failure of not finding our mate is draining. I keep telling myself to focus on our career as Beta. One day our mate will come. Even if it takes centuries like some.
Gamma Sarah let a mischief laugh. "Maybe Beta. Not me, I'm spoken for." Both Alpha and I dead stare at her.
"Clear to explain Gamma?" Travis asked. I can't even recall seeing Sarah with a man unless it's work. What secret relationship was she hiding.
"You two are so blind aren't you." She lean back her hair and showed her mark. We dropped our jaws. Seeing her mate's mark imprinted on her neck.
"How the hell did we not see that." Oliver said.
"Gamma, hmm congrats." Both Travis and I congrats Gamma for her mark. She thanked us and kept laughing.
"May we ask who, and when? Or is this a big secret?" Travis asked.
Sarah let out a big sigh. "He was from the new recruits. The very first one." We met a confuse look.
"This has been going on for 3 years?" Travis asked, again she laugh.
This whole thing was like a joke to her. But we were very curious. "No, we met years, years ago. Didn't get along, he was an asshole. And when I saw his name on the recruits list. I avoid him." She scratch her head feeling a bit annoy. "It only work for about a year or so before his dumb ass didn't remember that training was cancelled. He got on the field and boom MATE." I smirk at her.
"So what, you fell for his charm, now that he's mate?" I asked and she shook her head.
"He is still an asshole. I just learn to love it." Travis chuckle, taking in her story.
"Well I'm happy it worked for you Gamma. He's a very lucky man." Sarah did a gloating dance.
"I can say the same for you Alpha." Travis glare at her. Making the room cold. "From what I just heard. You two need to just talk and figure your s**t out. You won't know anything if you avoid each other. Its a slippy slope."
Travis shook his head, "whatever."
We continue to go forward with our meeting. And afterwards we had a small delight to see Gamma walk off with her mate. "Hello Alpha, Beta." He nods to us while taking Gamma's hand in his. We said hello and watch them walk off.
"What a surprisedly lovely couple." I said out loud. Travis growl and walk back to his seat.
"Travis?" I asked softly.
"Beta?" He replied.
"Travis you need to take the step and talk to Liv. With something like this, she will only run." He looked up at me waiting for a reason.
"Liv doesn't have hope in happy endings. Just please..." I choked my words. "Reason with her, be gentle with whatever choice you two decide at the end."
Travis let out a long hold. "I need to think Mason." Travis looked so defeated. Like he was battling with his thoughts already. I knew by his face he spend all night running mad.
"Travis?" I asked again. Hoping he goes to her. And at least try to explain himself. That way she can explain as well.
He looked up at me with a look I never seen on him. "I don't want to hurt her. I want to try, I really do. I just, I just don't want her to reject choosing me."
Fuck, the both of them are going to be a headache. Whatever happens. I'll have to be by both their side at the end.
"Just talk to her soon man." It was all I ask from them. They both deserve to have love. They just need to get out of their own ways.
"I will. Just watch over her when I can't." His eyes look so sad, he was hurting. He was struggle with this. And was she.
I never seen him like this. So I just nod with a yes and left him alone to his thoughts. I can't imagine what battle he's going through. And then there's his wolf. He is just as much as Liv's mate as Travis. Only time will tell for them.

Travis
A Week Later
All week I have been thinking about her. Her smile, her laugh, her voice, her scent, just all of her. I wanted to see her again so bad. But with everything Mason has told me. I thought she might be better off without me. She has school and the year is near the end. I would only be a problem in her life. So I figure I wait until they end their school year. The transition to bringing her here will be less stressful for her.
"If only she wanted to be my mate?" It was the one question I couldn't stop telling myself.
"We will do everything we can to love her right. Even if she doesn't want us, at least we can say we tried." Malcolm tries to be a hype man. But I just don't see why.
I want to give in so bad. But I'm afraid of losing her. If I love her, and she doesn't love me. If I give in to her like I never have with anyone.. f**k she'll find out too quick how I waste I am. She couldn't love me like I hope for. And if not. Damn it, I don't know if I can take the rejection well. And the actual rejection.. it's pain on top of pain.
Right when I am lost in my thoughts, thinking how her life will be better without me. Or maybe how amazing life can be if we try. If we give into the bond, will we make it? Can we have a happy ending? It was only a hopeless dream. But we can try right? Shouldn't we try? Is it cruel I wanted to try when she doesn't. For all I know she wanted a witch mate. And Malcom and I are no witch.
In middle of thoughts, this odd feeling hits me hard. I didn't understand it at first. But once I clear my mind, it lead me to her. Telling me to go to her. "No, no. It's not." I kept telling myself she wouldn't. But the thought of someone touching her, boils my blood. It was like I flash in my head of what just happen.
"Someone kissed our mate!" Malcolm's words fuel the flames and I try not to give in. I looked at the time and notice her day is almost over.
I try to let this feeling pass over but couldn't. "God damn it Elizabeth!" Slamming my hand on the table. I got up and grab my keys. I don't know what came over me but I couldn't let some boy get away with kissing our mate. So I sped to the school and waited outside by the curb.
"She is gonna make us kill someone today." Malcolm said exactly what I thought.
I parked on the curb waiting. As soon as her scent hit me I knew she was coming out. So I waited until I see her beautiful face. Then her eyes sparkle at the the sight of me. I walked over to demand an answer. "Who the f**k was it?" I asked firmly.
"Who was what?" She had a cute wrinkle on her nose. But her responds only pissed me off more.
"Don't play with me Elizabeth! Give me a name, I'll rip his head off for kissing you!"
Her eyes widen with shock. And lit with a shine. She smirk the corner of her lip. And I fought the urge to kiss her. I wanted to erase the memory of his kiss and replace it with mine. To mark her lushest lips with mine and only mine.
I step closer to her, almost tower over her perfect body. Her hazel nut smell drove my nerves insane. "Tell me who he was?" I demand.
Her small smirk let to a big one. "You really want to know?" Why is she hiding him from me?
"Yes." I whispered.
She turn to her friend. "Connie would you be a dear and tell wolf boy here who I KISSED today." My fist balled up at her words.
"She kissed him? Ohh hell no! She ours!" Malcolm was just as angry as I was. Ready to claw at the boy's throat.
I glare at Connie, waiting for her to give me a name. They make a face and giggle at the memory. "Ohh the kiss?" I was ready to blow my head. They were playing with my emotions. "Ohh well my ex was being all jerk like and Liv had a great idea to kiss me to piss him off. It totally worked."
My face dropped at the confession. Liv kiss Connie not some guy. "Ohh and FYI, she's an amazing kisser." She adds.
I swallow a lump and looked at Elizabeth. My face drain from my reaction. "So no boy, just her?" I asked to conform.
"Yes Travis. All innocent." Her laugh fill my heart. And her little head tilt gave me spins that had me madly.
"Get in the car Elizabeth. We need to talk." I calm my voice. Trying to ease myself.
"You got your answer Travis. Go back to your cave and run your pack." She tried to walk around me and I blocked her.
"Get in the car Elizabeth." I said louder.
Her face change with a wrinkle on her forehead. "Listen wolf boy. It's Liv okay. Now move!" She pushed me and a spark ran through my body.
"She fiery isn't she?" Malcolm pokes his ears up.
"I know, I love it."
I got in my car while she tries to walk off. Once she tries to step more than a foot away from the curb I block her. "Excuse you!" She yelled. She kept walking and I blocked her off again. The wrinkle became a vein and everyone was staring at us.
"Get in the car." I said as nicely as I can. We glare at each other for a second. My heart pound in my chest. This game she plays, it turns me on.
"Ugh fine." She sighed as she walk towards the car.
Right away she fought with the handle. "Well unlock it!" She yelled. I got out the car and open the door for her. She rolled her eyes and got in. I only chuckle and drove off with my mate.
"What do you want Travis? I'm busy?" I said nothing. I was enjoying her scent in my car. I wanted her to burn her scent into my seats. "Travis? Hello? Ugh asshole." She crossed her arms and looked out the window.
"What is so important you can't talk with me?" I asked. I knew her coven can wait for her return. I won't hold her time long. I just need to asked her one more thing.
"I do have a life. And it doesn't concern you." She was clearly annoyed. She was so cute.
"You are cute mad." I chuckled, she turn and look at me. We met eyes and my heart dropped.
"Yeah and you're so cute, jealous over a girl kiss." Rolling her eyes at me. I know she was being sarcastic but still.
"I have a right to be jealous when it comes to you." She said nothing but she knows I'm right. "Thank you." I said.
"I didn't say anything."
I laugh stupidly. "You call me cute after I called you cute." She frown her eyes and I winked at her.
"Where are you taking me, I have to be somewhere." I raise an questionable eyebrow.
"Tell me where and I'll take you." She said nothing for a bit. I kept driving until she tells me.
"The bookstore." She said.
"You need more spell books?" I asked. I wanted to see her in the works of casting. Now that she's near, I can only imagine the future I wanted. It's hard to not.
"No, I work there." I looked at her. And she looked away. Like she was embarrass or something.
"So work it is." I whispered.
For the little drive I said nothing. I had little glances at her. Insane thoughts fill me head. I fought all urges. And the small looks she gave me when she almost catch me staring. Mmhh. She had my heart smiling.
I enjoy her scent and took her to work. Once we got close she demanded me to drop her out front but I ignore her demand. Instead I parked up.
"Well thanks, I'll just walk from here." I got out with her. I follow her to the door and she huff at me. She place a hold on my chest, feeling sparks down my spine. "Where the hell do you think you're going?" She asked.
"You said work. So here we are." She frown so cute at me. I wanted to grab her close and kiss her so bad. But not yet. It should be rewarded.
"Yeah me. Don't you have Alpha s**t to do." I chuckle at her.
"Yes, and I can do it while I wait to drop you off at home." She step closer to me, staring me down. The urge to kiss her was thinning.
"Just sit down at the café. That's all." She was so cute being demanding. The only person I will let boss me around, its her.
I grab her waist and pull her in close to me. She gasp, her body fits so nice in my arms. "Whatever you say." I open the door for her and walk in after. She was all flushed afterwards. I love to see how I effort her. She fights it but I know it's her just protecting her heart. Mason has told me things. I only wish to be her protector.
Hours go by and I stayed seated at the cafe. I ate a muffin, and drank two coffees. I answer all emails and return any calls. I stayed closed by where I can see Elizabeth work. She was a cashier today, so I had full view of her. When she walked off, I followed. Ha it only put that cute vein on her head again. I try letting her work but when I can't see her, I get tense. I had to be near her.
It was closing time and I over hear her with a coworker talking. "So who's the cute boy today?" She asked.
"Just a new person in my life." She responded.
"Ohh a new bf?" Malcolm howls at the lady's question.
"We haven't talked about it."
"That wasn't a yes and it wasn't a no." Malcolm chase his tail. Excited over her replied.
"Well we're closing doll. Your boyfriend needs to wait outside."
Elizabeth walks over to me after her talk. Giving me a stern look. "Travis, you can't be in here anymore. We're closing." I look at her beautiful green eyes. Shining green.
"I will be in the car." I left and parked the car right outside.
"Where to next?" I asked, once she got in the car.
"Home, my home." She said very firmly at me. I chuckle and drove to where she tells me to go. She didn't talk. She ignore me really. Which is fine by me. Her scent was all I needed for now.
"Here I got you a snack and juice." I gave her a bag. "You didn't eat." She ignore me again. "I can feed it to you if..." She grabs the bag and throw it out the window.
She was so cute angry.
"Do you always close?" She hums a yes. "Where's your car?"
She didn't look at me. Determine to ignore me the whole ride. "I don't have a car. I sometimes use my parents but they need it more."
"And they're okay with you walking home in the dark?" I would never. I don't care what's going on. I would be there to pick her up and drop her off. Now I understand when Mason came back later. Or even ask to leave to pick her up.
"It's not too far. Besides, I can take care of myself." Raising her glowing hand at me.
I smirk a mischief look at her. I want to believe she can. She a stubborn witch as I can tell.
We made our way to her curb side. She thanked me and tried to leave. "Can you please unlocked the door?" She asked with a hint of annoyance.
"We need to talk first." She pout angrily at me. "Cute." I chuckle.
"You had all day to talk, so say it Travis. Just go on, reject me already. It'll be easier now then later!" Damn Mason was right. She doesn't see a happy ending. "Go Travis! Have a wolf mate instead! Hurry up do it!" Her eyes water up.
"I'm sorry I left you in the woods. I believed you sense my worthlessness. I thought you wanted nothing to do with me. But I want to try to prove to you that I can be your mate. I want us to try." Her face was blank.
"I don't want you to assume all my worst. Even though I know you already know by Mason. And the bond." I say.
She turn herself more to me. "I'm sorry if you felt like that. I'm scared you will see all of me that I have hidden for years and reject me right away. I'm very flaw. And with us being different, I thought you would want to reject me that night." She started.
She took a deep breath and shock gloom look away. "I'm not a person who you will want to mate with. You're an Alpha and you expect more. I can't be what you want, Travis."
In the inside I couldn't stop smiling. We both had it wrong. We both have our reason for why the other wanted a rejection. Yet it was the same.
"Elizabeth?" I met her green eyes. "Will you go on a date with me tomorrow. We can talk all this out. Figure something out. Tonight we don't have to make any decisions." Her eyes widen at my question. I thought she'll say no.
"Okay. Is 10 okay with you?"
Malcolm howls in my ear. "Hell yeah, we got a date with our mate!"
"Let me see your phone?" She pass her phone to me. "I will be here at 10."
She hid her smile but I lift her chin. "Don't hide. Don't ever hide Elizabeth." I whisper softly. She rolled her eyes at me.
"You know this might be one big mistake." Her words hurt, but I keep telling myself it's not truly her. It's something else.
I got out the car and open the door for her. I walk her up the porch. I was going to say goodnight. But she grabbed my arm. I couldn't help but melt to her demand.
"Travis, this might be a test. The universe just wants to cause pain on us." I held her tight, bringing her body close to mine. She follows. Her body tense and loosen at the same time. She was fighting some urge.
"I won't let anything happen to you. Ever." Keeping my voice low and soft.
"Travis? This is a mistake and you know it." I ignore her words again. It broke my heart just hearing them. I wanted to try and she was already ready to give up.
"We just have to convince her. And then she'll be ours. Forever."
Deep inside I hoped for that. But as I hold her close in my arms. Searching her. I can see why she says this. Something hid in her eyes when she spoke those words. Telling me she has been hurt. And she only fears I'll cause more.
"We won't hurt her. Just love."
"Goodnight Elizabeth. We will talk tomorrow." Again I left her. It almost felt the same as the woods.
By the time I got into my car, she was already inside the house.
"We will talk it over tomorrow with her." Malcolm said.
"She was just so ready to give up. What happen to her? Who hurt her?" Malcolm whines at the thought of someone else breaking our mate's heart.
"I just hope I can convince her to give us a try." I really, really want to hold on to her. I want to see this world with her by my side. I just want her to want it too.
