As the days went on Sawyer and I started talking about baby names. My jeans, and jeans shorts have turned into sweats or athletic shorts.
I'm nearing the second trimester. I only have about two more weeks.
My 12 week appointment went really well this morning, the morning sickness happens less now. I'm keeping more food down.
The baby is growing well. I am showing more. I have a pump. Although I look like I'm bloated.
"It looks like a baby now, instead of a blob." Sawyer joked as I couldn't stop looking at the ultrasound photo.
"Hey! That's not nice." I remarked. "You don't have to deal with the struggles of pregnancy." I slid to the passenger side of the truck.
Sawyer faked being hurt. I just laughed at him. But he pulled me gently back over to him.
"I'm sorry, I'm truly happy that the baby is doing well." He said pulling into a*****e parking lot.
"I want to look at some baby stuff while we are here." I chimed excitedly. Sawyer agreed.
As we looked at the baby clothes I was getting really excited. I didn't buy any clothes because we are waiting for the 20 week ultrasound.
The doctor said that she might be able to see something around 16 weeks, but the 20 week will be more defined.
We got a car seat and stroller combo that I have been looking at online. It's perfect for a stroll out to the barn.
It's one of those all terrain strollers, which is what I loved about it. We even looked at cribs as well.
We are going to have the baby in our room for the first couple months so I can breastfeed. I am determined to make it 3 months then slowly raise the bar a little higher, but my ultimate goal is to nurse until 9 months when the baby can start baby foods at 6 months.
Sawyer and Jason have been really supportive about my decision to breastfeed.
We got a crib and a mattress for the baby. I know I'm nesting a little early, but once winter hits the ranch will need more work, and I don't want Sawyer to pick things up at the store so we are getting the bigger stuff now.
I got some maternity pants as well as shorts. I bought some really cute tops too.
Once Sawyer loaded the crib, and the stroller in the bed of the truck we decided to stop at the diner for lunch.
My appetite had gotten bigger. I an always munching on something.
Watermelon is my favorite. Not only does it keep my hydrated, but it's also healthy too.
I ordered a pasta dinner with a baked potato, and extra fries. Sawyer order the cowboy burger. It has jalapeno peppers, cheese, sauce, and bacon on it. I stole some of his fries as well.
Once we were back on the road headed for home, I had laid my head on Sawyer's shoulder as I rubbed by small bump.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Not much. I was just thinking about what our lives will be like. What if I had done things differently? What if I had made better choices?" I sighed then looked out the window at the scenery.
"If things have been different, we wouldn't have met like this. And I'm sure we wouldn't be together like we are." He said then placed his hand on my belly. "We wouldn't be having this baby." He smiled and took a quick glance at me before moving his eyes back to the road.
"I guess you're right. I love how life happened to bring us together." I hugged him. I placed a kiss on Sawyer's cheek. "Thank you."
When he made it back home. Jason bolted out of the barn Sawyer parked the truck and helped me out.
"The vet is here to check on Phoenix. There is something that was missed in her ultrasound." Jason breathed.
"What?!" I asked in a slight panic.
Sawyer and I headed into the barn where Phoenix was standing in the isle. She wouldn't stand still for the vet
"What happened?" Sawyer asked.
"I was brushing her, because I wanted her to get used to me. and uh." Jason spoke.
"Its twins!" The vet said. Sawyer and the vet both were crestfallen.
"What does that mean?" I asked confused.
"It's means there is a rare chance for the 3 of them to survive the delivery." Sawyer spoke sadly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"So you're telling me that horses can't have twins, but if they do they don't survive?" I asked stunned, but broken. Sawy walked over to me and he pulled me into him. I started to cry. "No, she has to live." I sobbed.
I walked over to Phoenix. I grabbed her lead rope and led her out of the barn.
I had her grazing on some grass, but she refused to leave my side. For a horse she sure acted like a dog.
Phoenix is very intuitive when it comes to me. She can sense my emotions, and she knows how careful to be around me which makes sense now. When I first saw her she calmed down. She new I was pregnant before I even did.
I swung my arms around her neck and I held her tightly. I was wrecked. I felt Sawyer's hand in my back. Phoenix pinned her ears back against her head and stared at him.
"Easy girl, it's alright. I won't hurt her." Sawyer said placing his hand on her neck. "She really doesn't trust me." He made me laugh, and she snorted like she understood every word
"She just needs time. As do I." I sighed. I clicked to her and led her into her stall. Sawyer fed her some feed as I sat down on a bench that Sawyer made just for myself so that I wouldn't have to sit on a hay bale as he worked in the barn.
I watched him as he brushed out a few unpredictable horses. He talked to them as if he and the horse was one soul. I just listened to his soothing words.
When the last horse was put away, we walked up to the house to get dinner started.
Sawyer carried the heavy boxes and placed them in my old room, I grabbed my bags and started putting the clothes away in the closet that he cleared out for my stuff.
He even got me a dresser for some of my other clothes as well.
I decided to take a shower before dinner. Sawyer I cooking tonight. I've had a little more energy lately, but I know it won't last long.
I looked at myself in the mirror as I brushed my copper hair. I looked healthier than I did when I arrived. My skin had a tan from being outside more, my hazel eyes shined. I was glowing. I smiled. I left my hair down to dry. It too had grown some. It now rested just below my shoulders, when I arrived it was right at my shoulders.
I wrapped a towel around my body. I exited the bathroom. I walked over to Sawyer's dresser and pulled out one of his red plad shirts. I buttoned it up, but I left some to the imagination. I put on one of my athletic shorts.
I walked downstairs where Sawyer was setting the table. He looked over at me and grinned.
"Wow, my shirts look better on you than they do me." He smiled and walked over to me.
"Nope, they look so much better on you." I teased. I ran my fingers along his chest, "But I prefer you shirtless." I played with his top button.
"Something smells good in here." I heard Jason walk into the house. I smiled and pulled myself away from Sawyer.
Once we ate, we sat on the couch to watch a movie. I decided on the movie tonight. Jason and I always watched Disney movies to escape into a fairy tale from our horrible childhood, but tonight I wanted something different. So I put on The Longest Ride.
"Nicholas Sparks? Seriously?" Jason whined. I rolled my eyes. Sawyer came over to the couch where I was.
"Are you alright?" He asked pulling me close to him.
"I think so." I couldn't focus on the movie. My mind wouldn't shut off. I decided to sit on the porch.
Sawyer came out shortly after. We sat in a comfortable silence until my eyes couldn't stay open. Sawyer carried me up to his room. I heard the door close as I fell asleep.
A little while later, Sawyer joins me in the bed. I instinctively moved closer to him.
"I'm sorry, Alison. I truly am. I love you." He kissed my forehead.
"I love you too," I whispered then fell back asleep.
