Chapter Twelve
Double Trouble
I TRIED to maintain an unfazed expression when he said those words in front of me.
Did he just say that he was there, watching all those shits happened?
"You mean to say, you watched them beat me up?" I arched my brow.
His expression remained still as his cold stares penetrated deep within my soul.
"Yes." He licked his lower lip as he answered.
I felt my eyebrow pulsated due to irritation but I still sported my poker face.
"Look, I am not playing charade with you, Garrick." I crossed my arms as I uttered every word firmly.
I catched a sudden flicker of rare amusement in his eyes when I addressed him using his real name but it immediately faded. He remained quiet so I continued to talk.
"Tell me, what is the true reason why you are here? Why is your twin noy with you and mo? If your intention is to "patrol" then why are you saying that you let those treacherous mutants to beat me raw?" I bombarded him with my questions.
He casually pocketed his two hands before answering."Because I figured, you let them beat you too." He answered in his usual monotonous voice.
I arch my brow at him.
He closed our distance as he walked closer to me and then stopped when he was a few inches away from where I am standing. I remained on my ground, challenging him.
He raised his hand and gently caressed the corner of my lips using his thumb. I stared at his finger with a trace on my blood on it.
"You're brain is stronger than your body, Azul..." he started mumbling in a voice as soft as a lullaby. "...but it does not mean that you are that weak to just let them beat you up like that--" His dark eyes coldly met mine. His mysterious eyes makes me wonder about his hidden secrets."--unless you let them do that to you.
I softly slap his hand away from my cheek. His expression did not falter.
"I guess you're a genius for figuring that out, huh?" I ask with obvious sarcasm.
I raised my eyebrows at him before turning my back to face the full-length mirror behind me. I resume on removing the glass debris off my shoulders. I glance at Gamence through his reflection in the mirror.
He did not have kind of reaction as usual. His black eyes is still as blank as ever while staring back at me.
"I'm not really sure of what's happening now..." I said while casually removing the tiny glass fragments from my shoulder.
"...however, with what Zephyre told me earlier, I already have my hunches about this. But I want it to know from your perspective." I locked my eyes on his reflection on the mirror. "...tell me what the hell is happening now. Why did you say that I am being hunted? Who are they? What do they need from me? Perhaps, you're one of them?" I let the questions flow from my mouth. Yes, I have a lot of inquiries and I need answers and not just some stupid charade with them. I need solid explanations but I have a feeling that I will not get any of those. No, not from this guy.
I crossed his arms, the only reaction he did with all that I said."You have a lot of questions." He pointed out.
I rolled my eyes at him. Well, obviously, Gamence.
"And you are supposed to answer it, not point it out." I said, a bit annoyed now.
I knew I will never get answers from him. He is too enigmatic, too unfathomable. He'd rather spit out puzzles than to sate your curiosity. I know, that's how I remember him from years back. I guess he did not changed at all.
"I am not the right person to answer your questions, Azul." He said, withdrawing his arms from his chest.
My hands ceased an inch away from my shoulder because of what he said. What does he mean by that? If it's not him that's supposed to answer my questions, then who? Is it Lumence? Or... someone else?
I briefly turned to him."What do you mean by that?"
The slightly tamed lightning scintillated in his brooding silhouette which made him look even more dramatic and mysterious in my eyes. Silence between the two of us reigned for a few seconds. Only the sound of the exhausted thunders dared to make a noise.
"Come with us and you'll know." He simply answered, each word are uttered with so much cold conviction that I almost instantly agreed to his vague proposition.
But his words remind me of what happened earlier. The coldness of the wind pierced into the bare flesh of my back. Then I remembered the parallelism between his words and Zephyre's.
They want me... for uncertain reasons.
They want me... to join them. To merge with them and to abide in the things that they want to do. But what's this thing all about? Why do they keep on convincing me about forming an alliance of some sort?
"Why would I join you? What do you want from me in the first place?" I asked without any trace of humor.
"We want to protect you--"
"Protect me from whom?!" I irritatedly cut him off. "You kept implying like my life is in danger when I don't even know who my real enemies are." I balled my fist in pure annoyance.
Instead of answering, Gamence just remained staring at me without any words coming out from his lips and I can feel my vulnerable piece of patience gradually collapsing. I irritatingly and boldly stared back at his lightless eyes on the mirror's reflection. After a few seconds of staring without talking, he finally shook his head gently as if indicating that he cannot say more than that. Like he cannot answer my questions anymore. Yeah, like what do I expect from him anyway?
"It is up to you to choose your desired allies and unmasked your true opponents, Azul." He went on again with his charade.
I rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah, whatever. You just basically barged into my room to f**k my mind, Garrick."
Umasked my opponents and choose my allies my ass. He's talking like my life suddenly turned into a game... or did it?
I withdraw my eyes from him again and focused my attention on my shoulders. I pluck the last debris on my shoulder, now I have to remove the remaining shards on my back. I casually stripped off my shirt soaked with my own blood in order to have a better access to my back. I felt the tearing of my skin as I brutally removed the fabric from me. The pain is hellish but I've felt worse.
I tried to take a peek at my back using the mirror. It looked worse than I imagined, shards of shattered glasses dug deep into reddish skin. Traces of of blood is everywhere.
Damn, Zephyre.
