The Run

I was enjoying the movie until the end where the boy’s family comes back from ‘vacation’ just in time for Christmas. Something about this scene was making me tear up. Maybe it was because he was reunited with his family, and I will never get to see my family again. It felt like I was close to loosing it, and told Mackenzie that I needed to use the restroom. I walked around a bit until I came to the garden. The sight and smells of the garden were helping to calm me down. I no longer felt like I was fighting back the tears. I wandered around until I found a small fountain. I sat at a bench by the fountain and just stared at it for a while. I was so focused on the noise from the fountain that I didn’t hear anyone approaching. “A penny for your thoughts?” said a familiar male voice. I looked towards the direction of the voice. “Alpha! I didn’t hear you. I am just enjoying the fountain. It is helping me relax.” I said. “I can see that. You look deep in thought. What’s bothering you?” asked Alpha Malachi. “I don’t want to bother you with the ghosts of my past.” I stated with a soft sigh. “Allison, you are a part of this pack. I care about the things that bother my pack members. You aren’t bothering me by telling me what’s going on, but I won’t force you to tell me if you aren’t comfortable with it.” “Thank you Alpha.” I whispered. After a brief pause I said, “I was just thinking about my parents. Sometimes I wish that they were still here.” I look at the ground and let out a soft sigh. I could feel the tears threatening to fall again. “You must have really loved your parents. I can only imagine what you are going through.” he paused for a moment. “I know that something that helps me feel better is going for a run. Normally I would wait till you are an official member, but would you want to go with for a run in the woods?” he paused for a moment and fumbled with his hands. “I mean, I would have to come with you if you want to go for a run, since you can’t mind link any of the pack members yet.” My wolf was jumping up and down with excitement in my head. She hasn’t been on a run since we got here and was dying to get out. I on the other hand, was a little hesitant, because going on a run with someone one-on-one was kind of a big deal. It was something similar to what the humans would call a date. “I really want to go on a run Alley! Plus the Alpha is really cute. There are worse people to go on a run one-on-one with.” said Sapphire. She was practically begging to go. I smiled weakly and said, “I would like that a lot. You would have to lead though, because I don’t know the pack’s territory as well as you.” The Alpha let out a quick sigh and smiled. “Let me mind link a few people before we go, so they aren’t surprised if we run into them while in the forest.” He spent the next minute or two mind linking a few of the pack members. “Okay, let’s go.” he said suddenly. We started walking towards the edge of the forest. He said, “I will get undressed behind this tree, if you want, you can go behind the tree over there to get undressed.” Most wolves weren’t shy about getting undressed in front of each other when getting ready to shift, but since we didn’t know each other very well he assumed that I would want a little of privacy. I went behind the tree that the Alpha motioned to and took off my clothes, so they wouldn’t rip apart when I shifted. I thought about my wolf form, and started to shift. There was a familiar sound of bones popping out of place and changing as my body shifted forms. My wolf was a relatively large wolf due to me having Alpha blood. My wolf had a beautiful white, almost silver, coat with black paws. My wolf’s eyes were a dark piercing blue, like a sapphire. I have never come across another wolf that has had fur anywhere close to mine. I walked out from behind the tree, and I was greeted by a large pitch black wolf with white on his chest and paws. He had the same deep green eyes as Alpha Malachi. He was slightly larger than my wolf. We both stood there taking in each other’s features for a few minutes. The Alpha walked over to my wolf and started to rub his head and neck against my body. I knew that he was just marking me with his scent, so that other the other wolves in the pack would recognize me as being apart of his pack, but I couldn’t stop my heart from skipping a few beats. My wolf purred softly while he was marking us with his scent. Next he looked me in the eyes and tilted his head towards me. I didn’t really know what was going on, but my wolf instinctively bow my head forward while keeping eye contact with Alpha Malachi. I felt a sharp pain in between my eyes. Next I heard Alpha Malachi’s voice in my head. “Can you hear me?” he asked through mind link. I was a little shocked, but I replied, “Yes, how is this possible?” His wolf smiled and he replied, “An Alpha has the ability to open their mind link to any wolf that is in close proximity, as long as that wolf is willing to accept the link.” I nodded my head in understanding. “So, which direction Alpha?” I inquired. He started running while saying, “This direction.” I smiled and chased after him. It didn’t take long to catch up to him. I bumped into him and took off running at full speed. It has been forever since I have felt the air rush through my fur. It didn’t take long for the Alpha to catch up and bump into me. He took off in a different direction, and I chuckled and chased after him. We continued this game of ‘tag’ for at least half an hour. Next thing I knew we came up to a small lake with a waterfall. I froze in place and took in the scene. It was like nothing I have ever seen before. “Do you like it?” Alpha Malachi asked. “Yes, it is absolutely breathtaking! Have you been here before?” I asked. “A few times. My parents used to take us here when my sister and I were younger. Now I come here anytime that I want to think or clear my mind.” he replied. “Thank you for bringing me here.” I thought for a moment before saying, “Last one in is a rotten egg!” I took off towards the small lake at a fast pace. Alpha Malachi wasn’t too far behind me, so I sped up and jumped into the lake. He jumped into the lake right behind me. “Ha! Looks like you are the rotten egg!” I said with a smile. He didn’t reply, instead, he splashed me and swam away. We enjoyed the water for a while before getting out to head back to the pack house.
