Chapter 48 You Know the Drill

668 Words
The headmaster walked into his office then came out with a bunch of flowers in his arms. Pink roses embellished a bouquet of red roses and spelled out the abbreviation of 'I love you'. The bundle of flowers was so big that Aurora could not help but gasp. The red roses were very fresh, fragrant and beautiful. Aurora’s pulse quickened. However, she was also confused. "This... Who sent this?” Aurora was so astonished she stammered. Such a big surprise made her feel surprised. "I don't know who sent it to me. I'm only in charge of helping people with their affairs. However, Aurora, you’re such a lucky girl.” "You young people sure know what romance is." "Well, it's good to be young." The principal smiled and it seemed as though he did not look down upon the student’s love affairs. Instead, he supported them very much. The principal handed the flowers to Aurora. Such a large bouquet of red roses was too big for Aurora to hold. Aurora felt embarrassment. When she looked at the smiling principal, she felt even more embarrassment. She didn’t know how to react, so she just smiled and extended her thanks. "Thank you, headmaster." The headmaster waved his hand as if it were too polite for her to express her thanks. "That’s all right. That’s all right." he said to Aurora. "I’d love to give you roses. Aurora, you a lucky girl because you have someone who cherishes you a lot." "Ahem..."  Aurora tried to cough to wipe away her embarrassment. Who would send her a bouquet of red roses? Aurora suddenly thought of someone, was it Harlan? After all, he had recently given her a red rose when he expressed his love to her. "Isn’t it a little tacky to express your love with just one rose?" Harlan had asked, "If I send you 999 roses tomorrow, would you accept my love?" Aurora found a card in the rose. She quickly pulled it out and scanned  it. It said: ‘Thank you for your love. And thank you for your promise that you will never change your mind. The sun and moon will be on our witnesses. My fiancee, congratulations on doing so well on your monthly exam, you haven’t disappointed me.’   There was no name on the card, but judging from the handwriting and words, Aurora was sure that Caldwell had sent her the flowers. ‘And thank you for your promise that you will never change your mind. The sun and moon will be on our witness.’ When had Aurora said that to him? She tried to remember. The memory of that day flashed through Aurora’s mind.  Harlan had come to her and expressed his love for her. Caldwell just so happened to be on campus that day. She tried to sooth his anger. She tried everything she could to butter him up. She replied to Harlan by stating, "No, even if you send me 999 roses every day, I won't like you and I won’t accept your confession of love because I already have a fiance." "My fiance is ten thousand times more handsome than you. I love him deeply and will never change my mind. The sun and moon will be our witnesses.” She remembered what she said that day and her cheeks flushed. She hadn’t expected that Caldwell Elliott would hold on to her words and give her such an extravagant surprise. He didn’t seem like a very sentimental person. Although Aurora usually didn’t like such a conventional present, she couldn’t stop her heart from racing when she took the bouquet in her arms... She couldn’t help but think to herself, “Caldwell Elliott, it seems that I was wrong about you... You really do have a sensitive side...”
