chapter 10~ the book store

octaviea's pov

after we got done eating, we made our way to the book store. when I first saw it, I got so excited. I haven't been to a book store since my parents die. Trey wouldn't let me go out anywhere after he became the alpha

when we got there, I immediately went and looked at all the shelves of books. I loved the smell of books and felt at home being around them. I picked out qutie a few before made my way to the check out.

when I got up there, I saw a 'hiring' sign and got excited. if they would hire me, I would be so happy. I would be able to get first dibs on all the good books.

"Hello, is this all for you today?"

"Yes, ma'am. I also saw the hiring sign and was wondering if I could fill out something to possibly get the spot.."

she looked me up and down before smiling. she was a bit older than I am, but she seemed really nice.

"Of course, dear, one moment."

she went to the back for a minute, most likely looking for the papers.

"You know you don't have to start working right away, right?"

I looked up at Alex. every time I looked at him, my heart would speed up. he is devastatingly handsome. his dark brown eyes held so many different emotions.

"Yeah, I know, but if I don't apply, someone else might get the spot. I would love to be able to work with books. I love reading. it's my favorite hobby. Well, at least it was before everything happened.."

I looked away from him. I didn't want him to see the tears welling up in my eyes. I felt him wrap his arms around me and give me a hug. I really needed that hug.

the lady came back and handed me a paper. i stepped over to one of the tables in the store and started reading it. alex came over to help me when he saw me struggling with some of the questions. i really am grateful that i have him as a mate. it's hard not to just be together, but i still had a lot of things that I needed to figure out, and i didn't want to drag him down with me.

when we were done filling it out, i took it back up to the counter and handed it back to the lady.

"Thank you so much dear, that sign has been up for over a month and a half. Not many people want to work in a book store. i'll make sure to get back to you soon. what's your number?"

before i could tell her that i didn't have a phone, Alex spoke up.

"she doesn't have a phone right now. She just got here about a day and a half ago. go ahead and get a hold of me, and I'll make sure to pass on the message.

"Oh, of course, alpha."

she rang up all my books, and i paid for them with alex's card.

when i was done, we all left the mall and made our way back to the pack house. by the time we got back, it was around dinner time. i wasn't very hungry, so i just grabbed a sndwitch and an apple before sitting with the others.

i noticed that while everyone was talking, kyle looked to be deep in thought. he looked angry and worried at the same time.

"Hey, you okay?"

he looked startled for a moment before giving me a small smile.

"Yeah, i'm good. I'm just thinking about some stuff going on in the family. also, congratulations on finding your mate, i hope you two can be happy together."

i felt my cheeks go red. i didn't know how he knew that alex and i are mates, but i had an idea how he found out.

"Thank you, kyle. that means a lot to me."

he nodded and then went back to eating his food.

i picked up my sandwitch and started eating it slowly. everyone was having their own conversation, but i didn't feel the need to join in. their was this nagging feeling that something bad was about to happen, and i didn't know what to do about it. there wasn't anything i could do about it until it actually happened, and even then, it all depends.

after dinner was done, most people went back to their rooms or went home. jessica and liam went to their house while kyle went to his room in the pack house. and alex was walking me home again.

i liked this. we were going slow with us, and he was giving me time to get to know him. and im not going to lie it made my heart flutter knowing that he was doing this for me.

once again, it was a nice night out. the grass is wet from a sprinkle that must have happened when we were eating dinner. the fireflies were out lighting up the nighttime world, and it was just beautiful.

alex and i didn't talk much on our way to my little cabin, but it wasn't awkward it was actually quite comfortable.

whe we reached my cabin, i was a little disappointed that i wouldn't be able to see alex until the morning. my wolf let out a whimper. she wanted her mate just as much as i did, but we both understood why we were waiting. there were still things that he didn't know about yet, and i knew i needed to talk to him about it soon.

shaking away the toughts creeping into my mind, i looked up to see alex already staring at me. once again, i felt my face flush red. the way he was looking at me had other parts of my body react to him. it felt weird and good all at the same time. he reached out and tucked a piece of my hair behind my ear, then ran his thumb across my cheek.

everywhere he touched felt like a trail of fire lightly following his movements. i felt my body react to his touch in ways i didn't know was possible. i closed my eyes and leaned into his hand, wanting more of that feeling, but all too soon, he pulled his and away. i opened my eyes again and looked up at him. he had a somber expression on, but i could see the emotions in his eyes.

"Good night, octavia. i'll see you tomorrow morning. get some good sleep, and we're going on a run tomorrow so i can show you the rest of that land and where the borders are."

i felt my wolf jump up and down when he said that. she is excited to meet her mate and go on a run tomorrow.

"Good night, alex. im looking forward to it. i hope you can get some sleep tonight."

"Me too."

i gave him one last smile before going inside. when I closed the door, I let a little giggle out. it was hard taking things slow with him when all I wanted to do was kiss him until I couldn't breathe.

I quickly pulled myself together and made my way to my room, and got ready for bed.

that night, I dreamt of Alex and I running wildly through the woods that gaurded this pack.
