My eyes slowly drifted towards the person standing just five meters away. It was dark hair and an angry gaze directed at us. Of course, it was Elaine who looked terrible. Elaine's eyes looked tired, and she dressed very strangely. A long black dress that reached her shoulders, then a black lace scarf tied around her neck. Elaine looked confused, but when she saw my eyes, she brightened up a little.
"Let's be gentlemen. Shall we have dinner? After you." Emmett opened the door, letting Cassian and me in first.
"Would you mind if I asked you to give Elaine to her, and we'll have a nice walk away?" Cassian glanced at Emmet over his shoulder.
Emmet held Elaine's hand tighter under that word. It seemed to have become Emmet's self-defense. In that case, Cassian would not interfere with Emmet's life or Elaine's release. She will always be so close to him. At any moment, her life could be in mortal danger. The situation is not good, but we need to hear what Emmet has to say. Maybe it will all work out for the best a straightforward conversation without bloodshed and anger. Cassian pulled my chair away, allowing me to take a seat at the table. Then, in a straight motion, he sat down next to me. Emmet and Elaine, who still looked a little embarrassed, sat opposite us shortly.
"Come on, sweetheart, don't be a grump, mingle with the guests." Emmet winked at Elaine, then turned her brown eyes towards me.
"Come on in, dog." Elaine glared at Emmet, who was sitting next to her.
"Hold your filthy tongue." Emmet's angry glare went straight to Elaine.
"So, what do you need from us?" Cassian's gaze went to Emmet, who was sitting in front of us.
"Waiter, can I have some wine?" Emmet shouted across the café, raising his hand.
"Shall we dispense with all the formalities and get straight to the point?" I raised my eyebrows as I looked into Emmet's brown eyes.
"The rules are mine. We'll discuss everything like normal adults over a glass of wine." Emmet's gaze immediately turned from Elaine to me.
This situation didn't bother me one bit. I want to befriend Elaine as quickly as possible and then run to my feet as far away as possible. He has already done enough damage. Elaine seems strangely frightened, what with all the cruel things Emmet has done to her.
"Here's your wine and your glasses. Would you like anything else?" The blonde waitress placed four glasses, then the middle bottle on the table.
"I hope this is your best wine? We're celebrating a very special occasion." Emmett winked at the waitress, his gaze shifting to the bottle of wine on the table.
"Yes, it's our most precious bottle. Can you spare anything else?" The waitress looked at Emmet with sparkling eyes.
"No, we'll have you back for more." Emmet smiled, then waved his hand as if giving the waitress permission to leave.
Emmet grabbed the bottle from the table and opened it with a simple movement in one easy motion. Then he made sure that every glass on the table was full. I shook my head as soon as I thought about the alcohol. I am not a big fan of alcoholic drinks, but as I see it, I have no other option at the moment. I picked up the glass from the table, which was pouring a dark red liquid.
"Can I toast her?" Emmet's eyes swept over everyone at the table.
"What are we drinking too, old friend?" Cassian raised his glass in salute.
"For the chance to be human again." Emmet smiled as he sipped red wine from his glass.
As the four of us clinked our glasses for a moment, silence fell around us again. I could feel Cassian tensing next to me. It seemed that our plan was not going to be what it was supposed to be. For some reason, I was worried that Emmet needed a witch to make him human again. Is it really possible to undo such a powerful spell?
"When you promise to become human again?" Cassian put the glass of wine back on the table, pushing it slightly away from him.
"I'll just need a little help from Sarah. I think she'll agree to help me, or am I mistaken?" Emmett's cold tone of voice drifted through the air.
"What makes you think I'll be able to do it? I don't even know the right spell." I took a sip of the wine that slid unpleasantly down my throat.
"You're Willow. I think you'll find out. I'll give you a little push." Emmett's eyes shifted to Elaine.
"Don't you dare lay another finger on her. I think I'll think of something." I rolled my eyes then put the glass of wine back on the table.
"Why did you need me?" Cassian drew Emmet's attention to himself.
"You have to explain this one to me, haven't you forgotten?" Emmet rolled his eyes, directing his angry gaze directly at Cassian.
"Wouldn't that be your brother? Wait, what's his name. David?" Cassian put two fingers to his forehead as if trying to remember.
This is not the time for jokes at Cassian. You can see that Elaine's life is literally in Emmet's paws. Are you really that insensitive, and you can't tell Emmet the absolute truth about his brother who is alive. Don't be so stupid and arrogant. With one decisive movement, Emmet hit the table, drawing the attention of several people.
"It's all right. There's nothing to see here." I smiled pleasantly, trying to reassure the people who were staring at our table.
"Tell me what you did to him, or this vampire will suffer." Emmett squeezed Elaine's leg tighter with his hand on it.
I could hear Elaine angrily punching Emmet right in the arm. He took one cold step over Elaine as if to tell her not to resist and to shut up. I nudge Cassian in the side, urging him to tell the truth faster. This is not the time or the place to pull Emmett's mustache. I could feel Cassian's confused gaze on me for a moment. Then his green eyes returned to Emmet.
"What exactly do you want to know?" Cassian rolled his eyes with a deep sigh.
Although I bet, Cassian was enjoying the moment that only he knew the truth. But we can't delay any longer in trying Emmet's patience. There is one crucial life at stake right now. I can't imagine Dillan's face when he discovers that his brother has killed his best friend. However, it's partly Dillan's fault for the cabin in the woods. Well, now is not the time to blame someone, now is the time to save Elaine.
"What did you do to my brother? All I remember is the fire and your face." Emmet's eyes were full of anger, and he looked straight at Cassian.
"Your brother is alive. Who else is interested?" Cassian's eyes went to Elaine, who was slowly enjoying her glass of wine.
"I can only guarantee Elaine's life on one condition." Emmet's eyes shifted towards me.
"For some reason, I think that ties in with your toast." I rolled my eyes at Emmet.
"Of course. Sarah, you're going to help me lift the curse that keeps me up at night." Emmet's serious gaze lingered on me.
"Do you have any idea how to do that?" Cassian lifted the glass of wine to his lips.
"It's not my problem. You want no one else in your group to get hurt, and you will do exactly as I say." Emmet glanced at Elaine, who sat quietly beside him.
"Troop?" Elaine turned her head to look at Emmet.
"The other one could be anyone. Maybe that charming girl, what's her name, Chloe? Or maybe the teacher through the dash hunter Henry? Of course, it could also be your dad's brother Finn." Emmett flexed the fingers on his hand as he listed the people who were important to me.
"What exactly do you need?" Cassian finished emptying his glass in one big gulp.
"You have three days to figure out what you need to cast the spell. Otherwise, I'll start picking off Sarah's loved ones one by one." Emmet ran a hand through her short black hair.
"Agreed. Let Elaine go, and we'll do your bidding." I reached across the table to shake Emmet's hand at the agreement that had just made.
"I hope the witch Willow doesn't break her word. Otherwise, the consequences will make you weep." Emmet reached out his hand towards mine, squeezing it more brutally.
"I'll do anything to get your filthy paws off the people I love." I smiled, crossing my arms with Emmet.
"Agreed, then I'll be on my way." Emmet stood up from the table and pulled his wallet out of his back pocket, putting a few bills on the table.
Elaine remained seated. Her eyes followed Emmet until the café door finally closed, leaving the three of us alone at a table. In one swift movement, I rose from the table and fell into Elaine's embrace. I could feel her heart pounding, but I don't know if it was out of fear or happiness. The most important thing is that she is finally healthy and her life is not in danger.
"How are you? What did he do to you?" I pulled away from Elaine, looking into her eyes.
"Come on, let's get out of here. I've had enough of this circus. Emmett is an insane masochist who loves pain. That's all I can say." Elaine turned towards the exit door of the café.
"You go on your way. I'll pay for the wine. I'll catch up with you shortly. Sarah knows where the hotel is." Cassian pulled out his wallet and placed a few notes on the table, paying the bill in full.
I took a quick step towards the exit. Pushed the door open, a slightly cool evening breeze greeting my form. The streets were getting uncomfortably dark, with only a few lights illuminating the narrow streets. Elaine walked beside me for some time without saying a word.
"Have you found out anything about the missing people in this town?" I counted the dark tiles under my feet.
" We haven't. You already know the rest. I'm sorry to have caused so much trouble." As soon as we checked into the hotel, Emmet appeared in our room. Elaine's eyes lingered on me for a moment, then turned to the road ahead.
"We still have time to figure it all out. There are more of us in this town now. Tomorrow morning we'll start our search at the police commissariat. Let's hope the fire doesn't happen tonight." I shrugged my shoulders and lifted the corner of my lip.
"Why did you agree to lift Emmet's curse?" Elaine raised her eyebrows, looking straight into my eyes.
"I had no other choice. I couldn't just leave Dillan's best friend to her fate. Then what kind of girl would I be." I smiled as I put my hand on Elaine's shoulder.
"If only Dillan knew what a wonderful girl she had." Elaine smiled as she looked at the pose in front of her.
"Having fun without me?" Cassian instantly found herself at my side, gesturing next to me.
I jumped out of my seat at Cassian's sudden approach. I need to get used to his little vampiric tricks that constantly startle me. It's not like Cassian has to expect anything good from him. I angrily glared my green eyes at Cassian, showing my displeasure at his actions. My eyes slowly drifted towards the bottle of wine in his hands. I reached out my hand to take the bottle of wine from him, and then in a straightforward motion, I took three large swigs.
"Calm down, witch. You'll have a headache tomorrow." Cassian smiled as he looked me over from head to toe.
"I think we have an opportunity to celebrate that Elaine is with us safe and sound. We have to enjoy the small victories." I smiled as I took another sip of the sweet wine that slowly slid down my throat.
"That's enough for you, alcoholic." Elaine took the bottle from me and took a few big swigs.
"I paid for this wine. It's mine." Cassian pulled the bottle from Elaine's hand and tucked it under his black leather jacket.
"Sarah, how are you going to lift the curse?" Elaine's serious face looked back at me.
"Let's leave this problem for tomorrow. Now it's time for a good night's sleep." I opened the door of the small hotel-wide and stepped inside.
"We need to find the room where Chloe, David, and Henry are staying." I rolled my eyes as I walked towards the reception desk.
"I know the pose. I just think you and Cassian need to find another room." Elaine glanced at me as she nodded towards the front desk.
"I'd rather sleep in the waiting room than in the same room with Cassian." I smiled as I stopped at the reception desk.
"Perhaps you should go tell your friends first. I'll book two separate rooms for myself and Sarah." Cassian winked at the girl standing at the reception desk.
"Come on, Sara, let's get to the elevator." Elaine waved her hand as she strolled towards the metal elevator doors.
I rolled my eyes, then followed behind Elaine. I hope Cassian doesn't think of anything stupid to do tonight. With a smile and the elevator doors opening, Elaine and I stepped inside. Soft music filled the silence in the elevator. My thoughts were anxious about the spell I was about to cast. The scary thing is that I still don't know what the magic is and what it requires. I hope Henry will tell me more about it, where I can find something like a recall spell. Maybe Joan could help with that. After all, she is the witch who cast the spell. As the elevator beeped again, the doors opened wide, revealing a sizeable crimson corridor leading to the hotel rooms.
" Are you sure you're OK?" I followed Elaine, who led me to the room where she was staying with Henry.
"Yes, I'm fine. It's all thanks to you." Elaine smiled broadly as she pushed open the brown door of the room.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by three pairs of eyes. Chloe was sitting on David's lap, nestled comfortably in one corner of the sofa. Henry was on the computer, reading something intently and looking for information.
"You did it. Sarah, Elaine, are you all right?" Chloe instantly released David from her embrace and hurried in my direction.
"Yes, we're fine. Our plan worked." Elaine held out her arms towards Chloe.
For a moment, there was a friendly embrace in the room. David and Henry joined us all in a tight embrace. I can't believe we have succeeded in this mission. Finally, one small thing to be happy about. But I could feel Henry's worried gaze fixed on me.
"Where is Cassian?" Henry's questioning gaze lingered on me.
"DING DONG." The door to the room opened with a bang. All eyes turned towards...
