All eyes immediately turned to Cassian, who, as it were, broke the door of the room. Everyone was confused as to whether he couldn't just knock.
"You left me alone to my fate? In your opinion, how was I supposed to find this room?" Cassian leaned against the wall, unwilling to take another step.
"Don't make a drama Cassian. You used your vampiric talents to find us." Henry glanced at Cassian as he made himself comfortable on the sofa.
"Elaine, tell me more about how it went?" Elaine's inquisitive voice drifted around the small living room.
"Was this Emmet a werewolf?" David's questioning gaze fixed on Elaine.
I sighed deeply as I walked towards the door Cassian was standing in front of. Elaine seemed to be the center of attention at the moment. All she needed now was a good night's sleep after the night Emmet had done to her.
"Sarah, where are you going?" Henry's low tone reached my ears, causing me to pause.
"I've done enough for today. It's time to rest. I think Elaine will tell you everything." I turned over my shoulder, smiling slightly.
It was probably the alcohol that was affecting me. That's what made me feel tired. Maybe the tension that had been on my shoulders all evening had finally just slipped away. I felt every muscle in my body demanding rest. All I want now is a good quality sleep and a warm shower. I probably deserve a soft hotel bed. I am sure my head will not thank me tomorrow for the wine I had to drink today.
" I will see you in the morning at the breakfast table. Get some rest, Sara..." Chloe winked as she made herself comfortable next to David.
"You're not sleeping in the same room as us? David wrinkled his forehead as he glanced at Cassian out of the corner of his eye.
"There's no more place in this room. I'm sure Cassian booked me a room with a king-size bed. I want a decent night's sleep. I hope you all fall asleep without me?" I leaned against the doorframe for a moment, looking at all my friends sitting on the sofa.
Chloe was comfortably ensconced in David's arms. Her head was resting comfortably on his shoulder, her tired eyes gazing in my direction. Elaine was next to Henry, her eyes watching what information he was looking for on the computer. I saw David's angry look as if he was unhappy that I was sleeping in the other room. Henry seemed to have already dismissed me in his mind and immersed in his internet searches.
"Thanks again Sarah, I owe you my life." Elaine's eyes lingered on me for a moment, then returned to the computer screen.
"I hope you're not sleeping in the same room as Cassian?" David raised his eyebrows as he glanced back at me.
"To all, a sweet sleep and a quiet flea." I waved as I walked across the threshold of the room towards the corridor.
Cassian didn't say a word as he followed me. In one swift motion, he slammed the door of the room shut. I'm sure that tomorrow the people who will be cleaning the rooms won't be happy with the broken door, but it doesn't matter now. I wonder what room Cassian ordered for me.
"Where is my room?" I glanced at Cassian and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Right where mine is." Cassian nodded towards the elevator as if to say the room was on the next floor.
"I'm not sleeping in the same room as you." I glared at Cassian, who seemed utterly oblivious to my fit of rage.
"Sarah, don't be silly. All the rooms in this hotel are taken. You should be glad I didn't leave you sleeping in the corridor." Cassian flicked the elevator button, waiting for a chance to go inside.
"Couldn't you have used vampire tricks?" I raised an eyebrow as I stepped into the elevator.
"You're suggesting I kill one of the room's occupants, so you have a place to spend the night?" Cassian pressed the tenth-floor button.
He turned his deep green eyes on me as if with a sledgehammer. Does he think I'm considering killing someone in this hotel for a spare bed? I'm not that heartless. I'll have to sleep on the floor. It seems that my comfortable sleep has washed away one hundred percent. Maybe Henry has a room in one of his rooms? I'm not thrilled with the idea of sharing a room with Cassian.
"You can sleep in the bed. I'll take the couch." Cassian leaned his back against the grey wall of the elevator.
I didn't say anything to him. I could feel my head starting to spin, little by little. The alcohol had come to me right now. I thought the tiles under my feet were the most vital point of the drink, but it seems I was wrong. The elevator made a loud beep as it opened. A slightly different corridor greeted my eyes than before. It was utterly narrow, with only a few doors on one side and the other. Does this hotel have a separate floor for rich people? For some reason, my thoughts are not at ease that Cassian has still stuck his vampiric talents on me. We stopped at room fifty-three, and I glanced at Cassian, waiting for him to unlock the door. It turns out the door here unlocked with a simple card. Cassian pushed the hotel room door open, allowing me to enter first. At first glance, I thought the whole room was in total darkness, but I was wrong. The sight made my mouth open wide. This room was nothing like the one Henry and Elaine were staying in.
Before my eyes was a small white bedroom. Through the huge window, I could see a fantastic night view. The white curtains fell luxuriously at the end of the window. A soft white sofa with large cushions stood with its back to us so that you could sit down and admire the view. Small white icicle lamps shone high up on the wall near the curtains. A little to the left was a large white king-size bed, with white table lamps shining on small tables on each side. Decorated the wall against bed. Halfway up the wall, there was a sort of wooden landing from which small white LED lights shone, and further down the wall was white again, like the other four walls. I could feel two light brown carpets underfoot, which kept my feet from freezing on the white tiles. A little to the wall's right was a large wooden archway that led directly into the bathroom. Isn't there any door here? I took a slow step to see the bathroom, which looked very impressive. Another big glass wall. The interior of the bathroom is opposite the bedroom. A vast black bathtub set against a glass wall. The water was already bubbling and glowing a light blue color, giving it a mysterious quality. Well, I'm certainly not going to bathe here, especially with Cassian's eyes fixed on me.
"It's probably time for you to sleep." Cassian's voice came from the bedroom.
"Yeah, it's been a busy day." I walked towards the big white bed.
Even though I don't have anything to wear as sleeping clothes, I think my underwear and shirt under this oversized sweater will do. I stopped at the edge of the bed, then turned my whole body towards the white wall. I need some privacy so I can undress and lie down in bed. I glanced over my shoulder at Cassian, who was sitting comfortably on the sofa. In his hand, I could see the bottle of wine he had taken from the bar. I thought he had had time to drink it, but it seems not. In one easy movement, I took off my jumper. For some reason, I decided to sleep in my underwear. That alcohol does have a strange effect on the mind. I glanced over my shoulder again to make sure Cassian wasn't watching. It's not lovely to undress in the same room as my boyfriend's brother. He was still sitting there, turned away, his eyes staring out over the night city. I can agree that the view out of the window is truly breathtaking. All those lights are shining beautifully, making you forget everything around you for a moment. I turned away, and then, in one easy movement, I unbuttoned my trousers and took them off. As soon as I turned around, my eyes instantly fell on Cassian, who was standing just a few meters away. His two dark green eyes fixed on me. Cassian wasn't looking down, wasn't trying to scan my body with his eyes. He just looked straight at me with his green eyes, kind of, neither above or below. It's probably hard to maintain that kind of respect for a girl standing in front of him.
"Cassian." I wrinkled my forehead as I watched the guy in front of me.
I could see a trim light beard that was starting to grow on his chin. My eyes drew to two bushy eyebrows were drawn into his forehead, and green eyes were darting across my face. In one hand, he held a bottle of wine, and the other rested peacefully at his side. I could smell the alcohol mingling with his sweet perfume. This combination made my head spin even more. I looked at Cassian, at every inch of his body that was in front of me. He wasn't wearing a shirt at the moment, just a pair of black jeans with the buttons undone. I took a step back, not wanting to be so obscenely close to him. Unluckily, my back hit the cold wall. Cassian lifted one finger to his lips as if to show me to be quiet.
"Sara." Cassian took my hand in one easy motion, and I put it to his chest on the side where his heartbeats.
"Cassian, stop." I looked into Cassian's green eyes, my hand pressed against his warm chest.
"My heart is beating. It has never stopped beating just because of you. Ever since the day, I saw your beautiful green eyes. Ever since that day, I couldn't stop thinking about you. I loved you the first time I saw you. I love you now. I will love you until my heart stops beating." Cassian's eyes were shining right into mine.
"Cassian, I love Dillan. You are an important person in my life. I respect you, but I don't see you as the love of my life. My heart belongs to Dillan." I pulled my hand away from Cassian's chest.
In one swift movement, Cassian moved away from me. I saw a sadness in his eyes that I had never seen before. He turned on his heel, then walked straight to the sofa. I shook my head to clear my mind of the words Cassian had said. Cassian loves me. He's loved me all along. All the time, he took the oath from my mother. I quickly stripped off my jumper, then curled up under the soft layers of sheets. My eyes drifted to the glass wall overlooking the city at night. My eyes went for a moment to Cassian, whose back was to me. I can't imagine how hard it is for Cassian to look at me. Those green shining eyes do love me. But I can't. All I can think about is whether Dillan is all right. I miss his gentle embrace and his comforting word that everything will be okay. I can't just be with Cassian. That would be a betrayal. I am grateful to Cassian for everything he has done for me. But I only see him as my good friend. No fire in my heart burns for him. My eyes instantly went back to the view through the window. I need to rest. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day. There are a million things to do for the rising sacrifices and the lifting of the spell. I could feel my eyes slowly winking, demanding sleep. I did not want to close my eyes yet. My thoughts did not allow me to blink, or perhaps it was the alcohol in my system. I wanted to go up to Cassian, hug him, and tell him that everything would be all right. That pain shining in his eyes made me think. Has he loved me all this time? Every glance in my direction, every little smile, every tentative touch. How much strength he must have had to be near me. Why has he now decided to destroy our friendship with these words? I don't know how I will have to look him in the eye. I have hurt him. All I give him is sorrow. I closed my eyes to get rid of these thoughts as soon as possible. I felt my body swooning little by little, sending me into deep dreams. A loud slamming of the door caused my eyes to open wide. My first glance turned to see where Cassian was. He was still perched on the sofa, looking out over the sleeping city. After a little while, my eyes drifted towards the door of the room. In the doorway, I saw a horrible sight. All pale and frightened, she stood there...
