"Bree?" the girl's name left my lips.
"This is your only chance to learn the magic that's in your body. I'd much rather have everything than it was before your eighteenth birthday." Cassian's words sounded quieter than usual.
"I don't trust her." I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest.
"It's just a training exercise, Sarah. She won't do anything bad to you. She'll make it easier for you, and I can take part in the training." A small smile played on Cassian's face.
"If she tries to steal my pendal, I will burn her alive." I gave Cassian a warning look.
"She will do what I say. I think you can trust me." Cassian rolled his eyes and sighed deeply.
"Okay, after my dad's funeral then. Where will we do the arranging?" I raised my eyebrows, looking in Cassian's direction.
"Somewhere away from all the people. I'll think about the most appropriate place. We'll start with a simple fight spell. You need to learn how to defend yourself and react quickly." Cassian dipped his eyes back into the pose.
"Of course. Better tell me what the spell is to detect my mother's book?" I glanced at Cassian, my hand on my chin.
"It's a simple spell. It's very similar to the location detection, but a little different." Cassian smiled, and I saw happiness shining in his eyes again.
"When do you think we'll move from the location?" I turned my worried gaze to Cassian.
"What do you mean?" A few wrinkles appeared on Cassian's forehead.
"We haven't moved forward since Dillan disappeared. We still don't know where he is or where that b***h Nikita is." I sighed deeply as my mind wandered to Dillan.
"We're only moving very slowly. We found out that Nikita is planning something huge by sacrificing people around Claremont. My gut tells me the last fire will be here." Cassian tried to convince me that we were moving out of place.
"But that's it, just the fires." I rolled my eyes at Cassian. "No sign of how Dillan is doing or if he's still alive."
"I think he made a great appearance at your house, proving he's alive. I think we should expect another disaster soon. We've been in a quiet position for too long." Cassian sighed as he shifted the machine into gear with one hand.
"I hope I'll be ready when Dillan shows up next time. Or some other danger will come around the corner." I said out loud.
" I think it would be best for you to stay with me. If you stay in your old house, Finn and Lucy could be in danger." Cassian's green eyes lingered on me for a moment.
"You're partly right, but I don't think Finn would agree to that." I looked at Cassian, who relaxed in the car.
"Sarah, you're of age. You will make your own decisions in life, don't forget that." Cassian winked and smiled.
"I wouldn't want to put my sister in danger. I don't want her to suffer the same fate as my dad." I sighed deeply, a little worried about my sister.
"I think Chloe should move into my house, too. It would be much easier for everyone to stay alive if we all lived together. When we don't know Nikita's next step, anything is possible." Cassian's eyes turned to the road.
"There is truth in your words. Are you planning to bring Bree home as well?" I asked, hoping for a negative answer.
"I don't think Nikita will try to fly Bree away. Her target is Dillan's important people. You come first. Then I guess I'm not sure I'm important to Dillan, though." Cassian sighed. I could see a glimmer of sadness in his eyes.
"Of course, you're important to Dillan. He's your brother. It can't be otherwise." I looked at Cassian, trying to convince him with my words.
"Sarah, don't forget that I killed him. I don't think such sins are easily forgiven." Cassian glanced at me out of the corner of his eye.
"If you let Dillan know what kind of man you are, I think he would forgive you. " I shrugged my shoulders as I turned my eyes to the pose in front of me.
"Who would believe me? I'm a vampire who kills people in his spare time. A horrible past is always lurking around every corner. I've killed Leo, Lucian, Chloe, and many more people you don't know." Cassian's face instantly became stricken.
"You are not guilty of the curse your father put on you. You just want to live. That's why you have to feed on blood, simple as that. Of course, for a few deaths, I don't think I'll forgive you, but everything else is justified." The corner of my lips turned up a little.
"The only thing I can do is save my brother. Maybe then he'll find it in his heart to forgive me for all the years I abandoned him, killed him, betrayed him." Cassian furrowed his brow into a pile.
" I think we can get Dillan back. I could hear his voice when I cast the spell. Although the words he spoke were not very kind, he is fine. He must be all right." I leaned my head against the cool glass of the machine.
"Elaine has to be taken care of first. Then figure out how to deal with Emmet. And then we can get back to finding Dillan." Cassian's eyes stared into the darkness of the night.
"I guess there's a time for everything." I smiled, closing my eyes.
Although sleep doesn't seem to want to intrude on my thoughts, I must rest. It is now four o'clock tomorrow, and soon there will be adventures and dangers again. My thoughts are slowly sinking into memories. Evening at the Moon Masquerade Festival, which was held in the castle. That man's rich voice knocked me out. Those two brown eyes turn caramel in the sunlight with a light brown tinge. That white smile appears on his face every time he looks at me. Serious look when he watched me learn the simplest spell. Those gentle touches made my skin burn. Those gentle kisses soothed my frightened mind. Those soft words that made me feel loved made me feel at home. I can't stop thinking about you, my dear Dillan. I know that you must be under a potent spell of black magic right now. Somewhere in your heart, in the furthest corner, you can still see my face and hear my voice. I hope you still have a small hope that you can hold me tightly in your arms again. Then everything will be all right again. We will be together. I will not let anyone stand in my way again. I am no longer the weak girl I was. I am now a woman who is not afraid to fight. I am determined to climb the highest mountains, to cross the most dangerous roads. I will not be scared to get blood on my hands. My destiny has shown me that life is not all roses. Danger and death can lurk around every corner: werewolves, vampires, or even witches lurking in dark shadows. Now my sense of fear is gone. All I want is to hold you in my arms, to feel your heartbeat close to my chest. I could feel my body starting to get heavy little by little. Here is the long-awaited rest I have been missing.
I felt a faint tickle on my face. I opened my eyes wide, and then I realized there was nothing to be afraid of. Cassian's hand gently touched my face. I shook my head as if shaking his hand off my face. Although it's a lovely gesture, I don't want him to touch me. I smiled and covered my mouth. I looked around to see why we had stopped. Outside the window, the first rays of the sun were already rising. I could see the backyard of my house where the car parked. The whole night had passed so suddenly before my eyes. I saw Cassiam step away from me, then nod his head to let me know we had arrived.
"Why was sleep so short?" I wrinkled my forehead as I pushed open the car door.
"I told you to go to sleep earlier, not halfway through talking." Cassian smiled as he got out of the car.
I slammed the car door shut behind me. Walked down the familiar path towards my house. All my childhood seemed to flash before my eyes, the faces of my parents. Now the house is empty, like a ghost. No one is waiting for me there. I can no longer hear my dad's voice and my mother's laughter coming from it. Everything has changed so quickly. The years that were so precious have passed so quickly. A warm breeze blew as if to comfort me. I smiled. Although one stage of life is over, I cannot be sad. Such a wonderful and colorful life lies ahead. I am glad that my mother left me such a great gift. The pendant that adorns my neck showed me all the colors of the world. I strolled towards the house's terrace, Cassian walking beside me with his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket. His green eyes looked at my home. I saw sadness glimmering in them. I am probably not the only one who finds it difficult to return. I cannot even imagine how much time he spent in my house. How many times he has been there, visiting with my mother, spending his days drinking tea, laughing, caring for me. Of course, there are a million little things that I don't know, probably never will. Just under five steps, I took out my house keys. Turning the key, after a slight click, I opened the front door wide. There was only a deafening silence that weighed a little on my mind.
"What next?" I glanced at Cassian, who was standing next to me.
"Tell me you have three candles and your mother's wick?" Cassian's gaze lingered on me. Then he stepped inside the house.
"Sure, we're going to my room." I crossed the threshold and headed straight for the stairs.
"No, Sarah, I'm not going to bed with you." Cassian rolled his eyes as he gestured behind me.
"Don't be silly, Cassian. Isn't the time for jokes." I shook my head, smiling broadly.
" Don't be so serious." Cassian pushed me forward.
I barely kept my balance without falling on the first step. I gave Cassian a death stare. In what seemed like an instant, his broad smile left his face so frozen. I climbed exactly twenty steps, then pushed open the door to my room. I could see the enormous mess I had left before I left. I'd probably have to take the time to pack my bags. Maybe Henry wouldn't mind my moving out too much. I would tell him the whole story. He would probably understand. I walked over to the bedside table, opened the drawer, and took out three small candles. I was glad that I had the habit of lighting a candle before going to bed to calm me down. I quickly picked a few clothes off the floor to make more space for the spell. I placed three candles on the floor in front of me.
"Insindia." The word left my lips, and the candles were already burning before my eyes.
I glanced over my shoulder to see what Cassian was doing. I felt my gaze instantly become angry. He turned his back on me and rummaged through the wardrobe. Most importantly, not in my regular clothes, but my underwear drawer.
"You won't find spellbook there." I rolled my eyes at him, puzzling him.
"I'd hate to know." Cassian smiled as he closed the drawer.
With a few simple motions, he walked over to me. He knelt on the ground nearby but kept a decent distance away. This spell probably requires some space. I looked at Cassian with big eyes, waiting for his next instruction.
"Remember these three words - aseria retero dierus. With your eyes closed, concentrate on your mother's pendant, which hangs around your neck. It should help you to make contact with the spellbook. Only if is in this house, of course." Cassian looked into my eyes.
"And then what?" I turned my questioning gaze towards Cassian.
"Well, you'll see, let's not waste time." Cassian nodded towards the candle on the ground.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled, trying to calm all my thoughts. After a few seconds, all my thoughts seemed to calm down a little. With one hand, I touched my pendant, trying to feel a greater connection with my mother and the hidden magic.
"Aseria retero dierus." The spell left my lips.
I felt a strange warmth that began to expand little by little in my palms. It wasn't an unpleasant feeling, more like I was warming my hands by the fireplace. I opened my eyes and saw the candles still burning. Surprisingly, nothing happened, but the heat did not stop warming my hands. I looked at Cassian, who was sitting next to me.
"And now what? Nothing magical has happened?" I rolled my eyes, a little unsure of Cassian's words.
"Now, get up from your seat and go wherever the heat takes you. The place where you will feel the most heat will be where the book is." Cassian rose from the floor in one easy movement.
I followed Cassian off the floor. I could still feel the warmth in my arms, which was pleasantly warming. I walked around the candles that were on the floor and went straight from my room. I'm sure it doesn't have my mother's books in it. I turned my hands towards the first floor. I felt the warmth flow more into my palms. Bingo, things are getting better. My thoughts went to my father's room, and there should probably be a book there. Although on the other hand, I don't think I'd keep a book in such a prominent place. I wonder if Dad hasn't realized over the years that Mum is a witch. I walked down the stairs, then turned left, and there was the door leading to my father's room. It seems I haven't been there for ages. I pushed the door open, feeling my palms getting hotter with each step. It seemed to be getting more and more painful, but I didn't care. In the blink of an eye, Cassian was at my side. This time he didn't scare me. Probably because my full attention is on my burning hands. Indirectly, of course, but every step I take makes my forehead wrinkle more and more.
"Are you okay?" Cassian looked at my face.
Probably my face betrays perfectly the unpleasant feeling I now share. I nodded my head, not wanting to cool my mouth. My parents' room was exactly as I remembered it. I turned my hands towards the window, feeling my palms sink more and more. Now the heat was more like pain.
"How to break this spell?" I turned my eyes to Cassian, who was standing just half a meter away from me.
"Have you found the book yet?" A few wrinkles appeared on Cassian's forehead.
"I think it's in the wall, but I haven't looked in. This is the place that makes my palms feel the hottest. It's more like pain than a pleasant warmth." I glanced at Cassian standing next to me.
"Touch your mother's pendant with the palm of your hand, and the spell will disappear." Cassian walked towards the wall where she had just felt the heat.
I touched the pendant with both hands, and instantly the burning stopped. It's probably the easiest spell I've ever done, but it's very unpleasant. I looked at Cassian, who was standing against the wall I pointed at. He put one palm against the wall, then turned to me.
"What are you going to do?" I blinked, watching Cassian's every move.
The following action actually surprised me. Cassian put one hand over the other and...
