** TEAGAN’S POV **

Once I’m close to the pack house I mind link my mom.

“Mama can you please grab me some clothes and come out back to the woods?” I beg keeping my ears open for any movement or noises.

“Of course sweetheart are you alright?” She asks concerned.

“I am now but I will tell you everything later.” I reply and drop the link when I see her running out the back door. She catches my scent immediately but suddenly she sniffs and I see her eyes darken in rage. She hands me a pair of shorts and tshirt and I get dressed.

“Now what happened and why do I smell Nico all over you. He didn’t mark you.” She asks scowling and I’m almost afraid to tell her. Afraid of what she may do to Nico. Not that he doesn’t deserve it. But my mother can be ruthless when it comes to her children.

“No he didn’t but he tried to. He showed up when I was sitting on the shoreline and he told me he’d been hooking up with Liz since prom night. He said she is pregnant and acted like he was sorry. He acted like the Nico I grew up with until I started to leave.” I explain and see my mother attempting to stay calm and in control. “He told me I was his and he wasn’t waiting any longer to mate and mark me. So I ran from him but he chased me and he was catching up so I shifted and Tempest was so fast. I thought I’d lost him until he tackled me to the ground and I shifted back. He was trying to touch me until…” I stop because I hear footsteps and look up to see Mason step out from behind some trees.

“Until I came across them and then tackled that piece of shit.” He says and mama turns to face him in surprise.

“Who are you?” She asks and Mason gets uncomfortable. I can damn near tell he’s debating on whether to step back into the trees where he’d come from but I don’t want him to leave.

“Mama this is Mason Russo.” I introduce him and my mom relaxes and gives Mason a warm smile.

“Xavier’s son of course it’s wonderful to meet you.” Mama tells him.

“Wonderful to meet you as well.” Mason replies before turning toward me with concern. “Are you alright?” He asks and I smile.

“Yes thank you. I’m sorry I ran away. I promise it’s not you.” I explain. Mama looks at us both and smirks.

“If you’ll excuse me I have some calls to finish up on. It was nice to meet you Mason.” She calls out over her shoulder before heading inside. I laugh and turn to face Mason who has a smile on his face.

“Thank you Mason for what you did, I hate to think what would of happened if you hadn’t shown up when you did.” I say knowing exactly what would of happened. Mason nods but he just looks into my eyes like he’s searching for something. “Well I don’t want to keep you so Ill head inside.” I say and turn toward the pack house before stopping dead in my tracks.

“You don’t have to thank me. I’ll always protect you.” Mason says so softly I almost miss it. I turn back to face him and I can see by his eyes he means it. “I’m not sure why or what it is but from the moment I looked into your eyes I feel connected to you, drawn to you.” He looks down rubbing the back of his neck. “Please tell me you feel it too.” I suddenly feel my cheeks get hot but I look into his eyes.

“I’m not sure what or why but I feel connected to you to.” I reply and he licks his lips but before we can do or say anything else a shriek fills the woods and my heart goes numb

“MASON BABBBYYYY!” A beautiful blonde haired and blue eyed woman shrieks before launching herself into his arms and kissed him with her legs around his waist and kisses him hard. He wraps his arms around her and grabs her ass. “Mmmmmmmmmmm”

Without a word I turn and head inside and because I don’t want to talk to anyone I go straight to my room and lock the door behind me. I block any link from forming and step into my bathroom . Why am I so upset? Yes I’m worried about his ex and what she’s up to. There’s some reason the b***h is so insistent on him taking his medicine, we need to find out what it is. This goes deeper than his mother’s mate refusing to accept him. I can feel it I just don’t know what.

I decide to shower and get Nico’s scent off of me so I can get dressed for dinner. I shower quickly before getting myself ready for dinner. I grab my phone and my keys before I step out into the hallway and lock my room up.

“Damn sis you look every bit the Alpha.” My brother says and I smile before turning to find him leaning against the wall a few feet from me.

“Were you waiting for me?” I ask with an arched brow.

“We’ll of course it’s your first day as Alpha and I haven’t seen or spoken to you all day.” He says and I take his arm as we head down to the dining room. “So how’d your first day go?”

“Interesting.” I reply before I look up and see him looking at me waiting and it’s clear he knows what happened with Nico. “I’m ok Tyler. Really.”

“I’m glad but who knows what would of happened if Mason hadn’t showed up.” Tyler says and I feel his rage building.

“Tyler he did, and I’m ok. Don’t worry Nico will be dealt with and his father has agreed.” I tell him and pray he calms down and doesn’t run into Nico. My brother may just rip him apart. We walk into the dining hall and everyone turns to stare at me. I’m wearing black skinny jeans, black stiletto knee high boots and a burgundy long sleeve shirt that shows off my chest and has crystals in different patterns. My hair is half up with my reddish brown curls cascading down my neck and upper back. My makeup is light. We step up to our seats with mama and our family. I sit down and nod for everyone sit down as the servers begin serving dinner. When my plate is placed in front of me I can smell the ribeye steak and scalloped potatoes. I immediately dig in and moan in pleasure as I take a bite.

“Mmmmmmmmm this is good.” But quickly open my eyes to see everyone is watching me. “Sorry but this is delicious.” Everyone laughs and starts to eat. As I eat and chat with pack members I notice that my mom is watching me with a curious expression on her face but every time I look at her to figure out why, she quickly looks away. What is that about? I don’t have much time to dwell on it though as we finish dinner and everyone heads to their own places to get ready for the weekly pack run. Something my mom started when dad was still with us. Every week the entire pack is invited to shift and let our wolves run together. Each week is on a different day so those who work or are busy on one night can participate another time. After changing into a pair of shorts and a black tank top with burgundy roses I pull my hair up into a high ponytail and slip on my sandals. I lock up my room and head downstairs and out to the woods in back. I slip into a small clearing completely surrounded by bushes and trees and I strip my clothes off quickly folding them before allowing Tempest to take control. Each time I shift it hurts less and feels more natural. I step back into the yard and see quite a few wolves already waiting. They all look at me and bow their heads in respect.

“Please rise. I appreciate it but you don’t have to do that. Most of you have known me my whole life.” I say over the open pack link “ We’ll wait a few more minutes for others to arrive and then we’ll start.” Everyone begins mingling as we wait when a wolf with Grey fur approaches me and I know their eyes. I feel the link attach.

“Wow you’re a gorgeous wolf. I knew you would be my darling.” The deep voice says and tempest and I both are on edge. The wolf looks at me hungrily and I don’t like it . Tempest growls in warning and the wolf steps back. “Easy there my darling I mean no harm in fact quite the opposite.”

“Who are you?” I ask and growl because his scent is not of my pack but he’s not a rogue either. He has a powerful aura. “You don’t belong to The Golden River Pack. How did you get on our territory and what do you want?”

“I want what was promised to me 18 years ago. I want what’s mine.” He growls and again looks at me with hunger in his a eyes for just a moment before he gets a serious expression “As for who I am, don’t worry my darling we’ll see each other again soon.” He says before turning and disappearing into the woods on the side of the pack house.

“What the hell was that about?” I ask Tempest

“I don’t know Tea but we’ll find out tomorrow. Tonight is about our first pack run as alpha.” Tempest replies and she’s right. Turning back to my pack I lean my head back and let out an Alpha howl to which my pack lean their heads back and howl. Turning we start running the perimeter of our territory and I love how it feels as Tempest runs. She’s fast and dodges every boulder or object in our path with ease and grace. When we stop for a quick drink from the lake that is on our southern border I wait till everyone else drinks and continues on before stepping next to the lake and taking a drink myself. Afterwards I sit and just absorb the peace and quiet for a few mins. This will be a place I come to often in the years to come.

Suddenly I feel Tempest jump and turn facing the tree line 20 yards away and she crouches down in defensive mode as she growls deeply at where we just heard the crunch of leaves and sticks from someone or something stepping on them. She growls again in warning. A moment later we’re both stunned as none other than Mason Russo steps out of the tree line with his hands up in peace. He gives me an incredulous look as he takes in my wolf. He stares at my reddish brown fur for a few moments before looking into my eyes in shock and question.

“s**t Tempest get the hell out of here. He’s figuring it out.” I say snapping Tempest out of her defensive mind set and she turns and starts to run back into the woods for the pack house. “This is really bad especially with his girlfriend here. We have to figure out what she knows.”

“WAIT PLEASE.” Tempest skids to a stop right before the tree line and looks back at Mason who has a small smile on his face as his eyes meet mine. “It’s you isn’t it?”

I nod before running into and disappearing into the woods. I finally reach the place I hid my clothes where I shift back and get dressed. I exit the woods into the backyard and can’t help but smile as I see my pack members laughing and smiling as they stand, sit or lay in the yard, pool area and even on he balconies that wrap around each level of the house. I will do whatever I have to do to protect them. To protect us all.
