{Maisie’s POV}
I’d never been one for fighting, or any violence in general, but my body was moving on its own. My fight or flight instincts kicked in full gear, and all I could focus on was making sure that Margo and I made it out of here alive. She had children to get home to, and I.. I have Angelo. I pulled her behind me, dragging her through the long halls of the building we were in. I heard more footsteps and pushed her into a room, ducking down. I grabbed my head, feeling a wave of dizziness washing over me. “No.. not now..” I whimpered, trying my best to shake it off. Adrenaline would have to save us now, because the moment I crash, we end up in a worse state than when we woke up. I looked down, seeing a fire extinguisher, I handed the knife to Margo, “ Don’t lose that!” I said, softly waiting as the men walked by us, I waited for them to exit the halls before grabbing Margo’s hand and pulling her back behind me, running through the halls like a mad woman. This place, it was huge, it looked like some kind of warehouse. A man walked out of one of the rooms beside us, and I quickly hit him over the head with the fire extinguisher knocking him out. I pushed him back into the room he was in and shut the door.
“We have to get out of here..” Margo said, looking for any sign of an exit. “Look! There!” She pointed up, there was a staircase, and a sign on a door that said roof access. “All of the buildings like this have to have fire escapes in case of emergencies, maybe we can get out that way!” She said.
I nodded, grabbing her hand and pulling her along with me. We opened the door, closing it behind us and sighing as we made it outside. I looked down, noticing that there was a fire escape, but also multiple men standing up and down it. “Margo.. we have to find a way out back inside.. we’re too out in the open here..” I whispered, pointing down.
She nodded, and we turned trying to open the door, but finding it locked. “I guess we have to go this way..” she said, sighing heavily.
I nodded, seeing that one the guards were making their way towards us. “Margo, hide!” I said, pushing her behind a barrel and ducking down. I felt another wave of dizziness, but shook my head, trying to regain composure. Now isn’t the time for this.. I can’t pass out, not when our lives are on the line. The guard walked up beside us, and I cracked him over the head with the fire extinguisher. He fell over, gripping his head, and I hit him once again, making sure that this time he was out cold. I noticed when he fell, he dropped a gu*. I grabbed it, making sure it was loaded and signed. I told myself that I’d never use one of these again, the last time was on a hunting trip that I was forced to go on with Robert. I hated shooting gu**, no matter how good I was at it. He knew my policy on shooting anything, but he told me that I had to go with him, and that if I didn’t get him a deer, that he’d make me wish I had never been born. He was twisted, he wanted to watch me break, it brought him joy. That poor deer, I’ll never forget how sick I was after he made me ki** it.. I shook away the memories, focusing on the present. I looked down over the side of the building. There were two guards at the front door, and three left on the fire escape. I’d only be able to get the drop on one, then the rest would know we were here, and armed. I saw a leather gu* holster with ammo wrapped around the unconscious man’s leg. I unbuckled it, pulling it on, and tightening it around my thigh. “Okay Margo.. here’s the issue, there are five of them, two of us, and we only have one gu*, meanwhile, they all have one. The first guard we take out will alert the others to our location. It’s important the we handle this delicately.” I sighed. There are two things we can do here, we can lure one more guard up here, knock him out, and take his weapon that way you have one too, or, we can try to search this man for a phone or a key, and try to alert your brothers of our location, wherever we are.” I sighed.
“Let’s get one more guy up here, if we’re both armed, we have a much better chance of making it out of here alive.” She replied. I nodded, looking down and seeing the closest one was one story below us on the fire escape. I walked back, searching the other man’s pockets and grabbed a quarter, carefully sneaking to the edge and dropping it.
“Huh?” The guy grunted, as I backed away. Margo had hidden the other man behind some barrels and crates, while I ducked down behind another barrel, waiting for the man to walk up.
Soon I heard footsteps beside me, and I quickly slung the fire extinguisher, knocking the man unconscious. Margo ran over, grabbing his g** and holster and getting it onto her. “Okay, I’m ready when you are..” she said, watching me carefully.
I nodded, walking closer to the edge of the roof. The other two men were below us, they were standing together on the fire escape, while two more men blocked the door down on the ground floor. “Okay, we take out these two, then them.. then we make a run for it!” I said, aiming at one of the men on the fire escape.
Margo took aim as well, and we both fired at the same time, taking out the two men below us. Then of course, all he** broke loose. The two men guarding the door began shouting, looking in our direction and calling for backup. We quickly ran down the stairs, making it to the ground before turning and shooting the two men that had been guarding the door.
More men began piling out of the warehouse, as we made a run for it, ducking down behind a car that was parked nearby. “We have to get out of here!” Margo shouted, as the car began taking on gu*fire.
Suddenly tires squealed loudly, drawing both of our attention. We could see Marco, Mikey, and Angelo jumping from the car, along with two men I’d never seen before. One had hair that had been dyed silver, and greenish blue eyes, while the other had light brown hair, and teal eyes. They were both tall like Angelo, and as they jumped from the car, all of them opened fire on the men in front of us. I stood up, taking aim and firing whenever I could get a shot in. Margo followed in suit, doing the same as we both carefully shot down as many of the men as we could. Soon the shooting stopped, and I groaned, falling to my knees and gripping my head. “Maisie.. Maisie what’s wrong?” Margo asked, dropping down beside me.
“Margo? Maisie? Where are you?” I could hear Angelo’s voice, but it felt like it was miles away.
“We’re here Angelo!” Margo said, standing up.
I carefully stood, steadying myself on the side of the car. I holstered the gu* on my thigh, making sure the safety was on. We walked to the edge of the car we’d been hiding behind. “I-Is it over?” I asked, looking to Margo.
She nodded. “It’s over, we’re safe now!” She smiled softly.
“Good..” That was all I needed to hear, we were out of danger, and my body couldn’t handle the stress any longer. My vision blurred, and my body dropped to the ground with a thud.
