The Confession

It's about an hour before the guys are due. Lilly and I were in the kitchen making drinks. We started the party off a little early. Finally, the guys arrive. Leon sees me and comes in for a hug and I dismiss his attempt by turning away.

Leon: Angel, are you still mad?

Me: Go sit down. We need to talk.

He walks towards the couch. I sit next to him, Lilly next to Briggs, Kai stays in the kitchen. I begin.

Me: I wanted us all together to clear the air. I don't like the hostility that's been going on between you and Kai.

Kai slams his glass down and tries to leave.

Lilly: Kai, stop! This needs to be done. I agree. I'm tired of seeing my brothers fighting.

Kai returns to the kitchen and makes a new drink. He throws a hand up signaling for me to continue. I turn to Leon.

Me: Leon. Who did Summer cheat with?

Leon: I have already told you.

Me: I want you to say it out loud.

Leon: I'm not putting my business out there. I'm leaving.

Me: You leave, we're done!

He stops in his tracks. He looks at Kai.

Leon: YOU SON OF A b***h! YOU TOLD HER!

Kai: I TOLD HER NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. I DIDN'T f*****g SLEEP WITH SUMMER AND YOU KNOW THAT. BUT YOU TOLD HER THAT. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME? YOUR BROTHER?

Leon: YOUR NOT MY f*****g BROTHER!

Lilly jumps up. She slaps Leon across the face. She suddenly starts crying.

Lilly: He is our f*****g brother! We've been a family since we were five. What's changed, Leon? It's you!

Leon looks back at Lilly. I could see the anger brewing in his eyes. I didn't know this was how the night was going to go. Leon makes a fist and raises his hand towards Lilly. Before I know it, both Briggs and Kai are in front of Lilly, shielding her. Briggs rarely speaks, but what comes out of his mouth shocks us all.

Briggs: Leon. It's over. Confess everything.

Leon: There's nothing to confess except the fact I lied about the s**t with Summer.

Briggs: Why'd you lie?

Leon: Because I wanted her first!

Briggs pushes him into the wall, causing a photo to fall and break.

Briggs: Leon. Now. I kept my mouth shut because I thought you all would figure it out. But since you chose to raise a hand to my girl, your f*****g sister! Now it's time to confess and if you don't, I will.

Leon struggles to break free of Briggs but isn't having any luck.

Briggs: LEON! NOW!

Leon: NO!

Briggs: Fine. You leave me no choice then. Melanie, the night you jumped off the bridge, Leon didn't go after you. Kai did. He's the one that saved you. Not this f*****g chump. He was gonna let you die. Kai jumped in. Also, Kai was the one who had your necklace and was supposed to get it fixed and give it back to Kai to give to you. But chose to keep it, as a way to win you over.

Kai: You spread lies to her to make her think I was the bad guy, but it's actually you. When you found out, she was a virgin. She became a conquest to you. You didn't actually want her! You just wanted her virginity. Then that's when you planned on letting me try to be able to talk or date her.

Kai takes my hand and hides me behind him. He looks back at me.

Kai: I got you princess.

Princess. He said it again. My eyes light up. I recall before I was rescued they said got you princess.

Me: YOU SON OF b***h! YOU KNEW YOU DIDN'T SAVE ME AND WERE GOING TO KEEP THE CHARADE UP! I CANT BELIEVE YOU! YOUR WORSE THAN DANIEL!

I can't believe everything that just unfolded before my eyes. I took the phone he gave me and threw it at him.

Me: I want nothing from you!

Lilly joins in.

Lilly: Leon leave. Now!

Briggs releases Leon. Leon picks up the phone. He starts to leave. Kai decides to add fuel to the fire.

Kai: By the way, Monica said she had a great time with you yesterday.

Leon turns around and charges at Kai. Briggs grabs Leon again.

Me: Omg. Who are you? You lied to get in my pants? Caused problems in the group? And cheated on me? Funny you were worried about getting hurt, and you end up being the one to hurt all of us.

Leon looks at me but says nothing. I turn away. I can't even look at him right now. All the tears I tried to hold back spill out. I ran to my room. I stay in my room until it quiets down. I don't want to face anyone right now. But I decided against it because I wanted another one of Lilly drinks. So I head back to the living room where Lilly, Briggs, and Kai are sitting. Kai looks up and walks over to me.

Kai: I'm sorry Melanie. I wanted to tell you. But I thought you would think I was lying.

Lilly gets up to give Kai a hug. Tears in her eyes. I give her a hug. I turned to Kai.

Me: I'm going to get a drink and then let's head downstairs. I could use a cigarette right now.

He nods. We gather our drinks and head down. We sat on the front steps. Kai pulls out a cigarette and lights it up. He then passes it to me. I take a puff and start coughing my lungs up. He laughs. He lights another one up for himself.

Me: So you're my hero?

Kai: Yes.

Me: Well. Thank you, Kai.

Kai: I did what any decent person would do.

Me: So are you guys going home tonight?

Kai: Nah. Lilly told us we could stay here for as long as we wanted. So I'm gonna stay the night.

I finished my cigarette. I get up and get ready to head inside, but I stop. I turned around to Kai. He stands up. I walked back towards him. I cup his face and give him a soft but quick kiss on the lips. I pull away. He looks shocked.

Me: It's the least I can do since you saved my life.

Kai: Well, now that the air is clear, we can talk again. Melanie, I really do want to get to know you better.

Me: Ok. But I will definitely need time after this fiasco.

I smile and he smiles back. For once, it doesn't disappear. I headed upstairs feeling like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I head to bed hurt but happy at the same time. Tomorrow's a new day.
