I arrived 30 minutes early for the training session that afternoon. I wanted to get at least another mile in before we started. After stretching I started my run slowly, knowing I didn't want to stress my muscles too much before sparring. I knew no one would take it easy on me, training in different environments for five years wolves thought I would be out of practice.
Even going slow for myself I finished the mile in three minutes. None of these wolves had any idea that I was still trained on a strenuous workout plan my trainer assigned, him knowing I could only work out in the gym a couple times a week. I always did twice the number of reps he gave me for each set, the plan was made for a female human, not a Beta werewolf. So I am much stronger than I let on.
As I'm stretching my legs on the ground again, I see Mitchell and Malcom walking in my direction. They spotted me and waved, stopping and continuing to talk for a minute before walking in different directions. Mitchell walking towards me, Malcom walking towards a group of warriors doing push ups.
"Hey Milly, I hate telling you this. I know you have trained with everyone plenty before, but Alpha Daniel told us he doesn't want you sparring with the warriors. Only him, Malcom, Micheal and me." Mitchell said sitting down on the grass beside me. I let out a low growl in response. He held his hands up, leaning back slightly in fake surrender.
"Don't shoot the messenger." He said.
I didn't answer, instead I got up and walked away. Men have been telling me not to do things I am passionate about as long as I can remember. Instead I walk up to a tall, broad shouldered female warrior. No one else seemed to be approaching her yet.
"Hi I'm Melody, Beta Micheal's sister. Will you please spar with me and show me some new moves? I won't lie, I have been practicing martial arts with humans while I was away, but I haven't sparred with another werewolf in a couple years." I said knowing my admission of being rusty would intrigue her.
"Thank you for choosing me Beta Melody, my name is Lydia" She said respectfully. "Let's see what level you're at, before we move on to strategy. If thats fine with you."
I liked her so far, she seems straight forward, respectful, no nonsense. We both presumed stances Lydia waiting for me to lunge at her first. I knew lunging first wasn't a good idea, that lesson I learned the hard way in a Krov Maga class I took a few years ago. But, I also knew I had to take her down the first opportunity I got to stand any chance, she had more body mass and longer arms compared to me.
After some time circling eachother Lydia lunges and grabs my upper right arm with her left hand, I twist out, spinning around landing a upper cut to her chin with my non-dominate hand. She stumbles back a few steps, but then drops down to the mat. Using her right leg, she swipes my feet out from under me. I hit the mat hard, landing on my ass and rolling to the right, jumping up quickly before Lydia can pin me.
"Good recovery, Beta." Lydia applauds me, while starting to circle me again, smirking.
For several minutes we go back and forth, exchanging several jabs, kicks and punches to different areas of eachothers bodies. Lydia isn't trying to take me down right now, just trying to gage my skill level. Once we are in a pattern, she turns it up a notch. With a swift spin she lands a spinning leg kick to my left shoulder.
Shit, that one hurt. My wolf, Rose said.
Well if she really wants to see what we got, let's show her. I told Rose.
Even though the last blow caused some real pain, the position I ended up in gave me an advantage. With my right arm I spun towards her, landing an elbow to her rib cage. She bent over slightly, due to the broken rib I just cracked. I took the opening to grab the back of her head with both of my hands, kneeing her face. After she recovered for a few seconds, Lydia cracks her neck and starts circling again. This time she has a more determined look on her face.
I use a couple oblique kicks, not to hyper extend her knee or do any damage, but to keep her at bay. I need some room for the next move I am planning. Lydia has a longer armspan than I do though, so she lands a couple punches to my left cheek and head before I have a chance to attack. Her last hit barely grazed me, so I stepped back quickly to get a more room for better momentum. She was still bent over slightly from the force she had put into the last punch. Taking two fast steps then jumping in the air with my right knee extended upward, I switched knees mid-air, landing my left knee to her face.
Lydia stumbles back, almost falling. She lunges at me again trying to grab my arms to immobilize me, but I dodge her attempt. Dropping down to my knees, wrapping my arms around her thighs, one of my legs behind her feet and the other leg in front, trapping her feet between my legs. With a forceful push, Lydia falls backwards with a thud. I pinned her fast with a three count.
Hopping up, I extend my hand to Lydia to help her up too. She smiles taking my hand and standing up.
"I heard you were good." Lydia said, redoing her no now messed up pony tail.
"Thanks! I still train with a Martial Arts instructor in New York." I told her and she nods.
Just then I see Daniel from across the field walking towards us in large strides. His eyes wide and dark with rage. Everyone in his way moves, leaving a path straight to Lydia and I.
"You should leave, fast." I whisper to Lydia. She runs off quickly not even waiting for me to finish the sentence. Daniel stops only inches in front of me. Angry, dark eyes looking down at me, staring straight into my soul.
"My office, now!" He whisper yells at me. Rose whimpers in my head, but I just huff.
