Mate! my wolf screams in my head.
Oh my Goddess, Alpha Daniel is my mate. I was not expecting this. I mean yes, he has always been handsome but I just never thought of him this way before. But the way he is looking at me with so much adoration, I feel like I'm about to melt. Oh No! The realization that I'm the next Luna sets in. F*ck, I'm not ready for that responsibility!
Daniel's face starts to inch towards mine slowly. He's staring at my lips and I know what is about to happen. I'm just not ready to give into the mate bond yet. I need time to think without his scent clouding my mind.
"AHEM" I'm saved by Micheal clearing his throat.
"Now that Melody figured out why your scent was so strong to her can we finish the debriefing so we can go back to family day?" Micheal said.
I looked at him with scrunched eyebrows. "You knew?"
"Not until you told me that you were smelling his scent downstairs. How did you not know that was the mate smell?" Micheal asks sarcastically.
"Because I've never experienced it before, smart ass!" I yelled back.
"Okay now, Daniel, what did you need to ask Melody and I about?" Kim said trying to get us back to the reason we were called in.
"Right" Daniel says releasing me from his grip hesitantly. Instead he grabs my hand and pulls a chair up next to him for me to sit in. Sparks radiate through my body, the feeling is incredible.
He doesn't take his eyes off me as he begins to speak, making it hard to concentrate. I'm not suppose to have such intense feelings this soon, I can't give in to the mate bond just yet. I'm not ready. However I also can't seem to look anywhere but his lips. He seems oblivious to my internal battle as he continues, glancing between my lips and eyes.
"This morning I interrogated the rouge that attacked you two. In the report Gamma Ben gave me you said that you thought it was an attempted assassination, but the prisoner has eluded otherwise." Daniel glances at Micheal and Kim before focusing back on me.
"He said they were attempting to take a Beta female, they didn't care which of you they got. Somehow they knew you were both Beta's and used you being close to the border to their advantage. He won't tell us what they wanted with you but we are assuming it was for either a ransom payment or leverage for a land grab." Daniel said trying to gage my reaction.
I nodded in response. I have no idea how they knew my father and brother are Beta's. I haven't even been in town to be spied on in two years. I was barely here for six hours before the attack. They must have figured out who I am being with Kim. That or there is a traitor in our pack.
"With her being gone for so long how could they have known who Milly is?" Kim asked quietly, everyone looked up at her deep in thought. Kim must have had the same thought as me.
Daniel looks up at me again, eyebrows knitted in confusion. "Did you notice anyone following you or acting strangely?" He asks.
I shook my head no. I couldn't remember anything strange happening, except the rouge attack, since I got home. Daniel nodded before telling us to stay away from the borders till the trackers can find out where the rouges came from and extinguish the rest of the camp.
Micheal jumps up and claps his hands together "Now let's get back to Sunday Funday ladies!"
He grabs Kim's hand kissing it gently before heading to the door. I walked behind them ready to head home and clear my head when Alpha Daniel grabbed my forearm, sparks emanating from where he touched.
"Are you leaving? I thought we could talk for a few minutes" Daniel asked hopefully.
"Umm, can we talk later? I don't want to disappoint Mallory, I dressed up specially for her." He nods sadly, eyeing my elf costume, disappointment etched across his features. I feel a ping of guilt in my chest, I had clearly hurt his feelings. He didn't expect to be paired with a hesitant mate...
As I climbed onto the backseat of the golf cart I noticed Daniel watching me from his office window. I didn't even realize we parked in view of his window. He looks so sad, I wish I didn't have the doubts I do but I need time and a good workout. Thank Goddess I can start training tomorrow afternoon.
"Why didn't you stay Milly?" I didn't even realize Kim had turned in her seat to face me, I had been so focused on Daniel.
"I'm not ready for everything a mate brings. I still want to dance a few more years. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm so confused." I confessed.
"Try to give him a chance sweetie, he's a good man" Kim said. "He has also been searching for his mate for a while now," Micheal adds.
"UGHH" I huffed as I throw my face in my hands. I hear Micheal laughing quietly. Great! That makes me feel better. Daniel has been searching for me and I pretty much just blew him off.
Why didn't you except our mate? My wolf asks
You know why Rose! I'm not ready to give up my career. I huffed
But we love him, I can tell you feel the same already. Rose said whimpering
I'm sorry Rose, I just need time.
Rose whimpers again then recedes into the back of my mind. Now I've hurt my mate and my wolf...
