Chapter 8 Cold Family Relationship

As Sophia got down from her car. She saw Hannah waiting at the entrance of the company. 

Sis..."Hannah called her; the company was in trouble, and grandfather was worried and suddenly fainted." "Please go and take a look at him. Dad was still on a business trip." |I called you, but I can't get through, so I came here directly."

The company was in trouble? "I have seen on television that there was an investor who invested recently." Why was there's suddenly an issue? Which hospital? Sophia asks.

"Mount-Sinai Hospital," Hannah replied quickly. 

Sophia filed a half-day leave at work in the afternoon and went to the hospital. When she arrived at the hospital, the surgery was finished. The doctor said it was a sudden stroke. If he had not reached the hospital in time, he could have died.

"Mom, What happened to the company?

"According to your grandfather, the investor back out."

"That investor like Hannah and wanted to marry her, but she was engaged to Josh, so she didn't agree to marry that person." 

"Then they backed out in anger; while the company Vice Pres. stole the company's funds and ran away". "Your grandfather was upset about it and passed out." "Your grandfather has been worried about you, so he's been trying to find you a good partner."

"Actually, that investor was decent and good-looking, tall and handsome, and comes from a rich and prestigious family."

"Sophia's eyes turn cold upon listening to her mother. So What? 

They were interrupted when her grandfather wakes up. "Are you awake now, father? How are you feeling? Could you help me get up? Bernadette helps him get up and put two pillows behind his back. 

"Sophia, you're here. Don't worry about me; I'm okay now." "Don't worry about the company will settle about this when your dad comes back from a business trip."

"That's right, Sophia, we have to get the investment of Ferrell Group to save our company. All of your grandfather's effort and hard work is in this company. You have to save Hankey Group Sophia."

I save Hankey Group? How? Do you think; I'm some ruler to Ferrell Group? 

"You can save the company as long as you agree to marry the President of Ferrell Group." "If you agree to marry him in place of Hannah, then the problem will solve."

Sophia thought it was a joke. 

"The Ferrell's wanted a daughter in law that knows the business." Her mom was confident when she speaks. 

Sophia was stunned."What did you say?

Marry the Pres. of Ferrell Group in place of Hannah?

"Sophia the Pres. was the only son of the Ferrell family. Their businesses were huge, and their background, it's bigger than ours."

So you want me as your bargaining chip to solve the company's crisis? Sophia looks at her mother with an indifferent and cold smile. She could not believe that her mother said those words to her. after all these years, she thought she was a little girl who would obey as they wish. 

"Mom, Why should I become the sacrificial lamb for this marriage? 

Her mom's eyes were a cloud of madness; she has changed so much. She would never say this before; she looked horrified while staring at Sophia. 

Can you agree to this Sophia for Hannah's sake? Her mom softened her voice and beg Sophia. 

Why don't you let Hannah marry him? 

"You said the Pres. of Ferrell Group is interested in Hannah, so why should I marry him in place of her?. "Sophia, you forget that we help you to get here to America; if not, you are still stuck there in the Philippines. How could you be so ungrateful? 

Sophia's body froze, and her face went pale. Did she forget? "I see... I really had no idea that it was so different from repaying someone. If I know that repaying someone will come to this, I prefer to live there alone than to be here with you." "I don't wish to be here; I was content to live there where I belong."

The words of her mother were like an order to obey. 

"If you insist on me to marry, I would rather go back to the Philippines and leave there alone as a Garcia, not in my recent family name." 

"Don't worry, mother, I will go back home on grandfather's birthday, but to sacrifice myself for the sake of Hannah, no way!

Father, what should we do now? "We can't convince her if you're like this, father! 

"Sophia isn't taking our Hankey family seriously. I heard she was now the Director of Dyson Ltd."

"So she's acting high and mighty now." What can she do? 

"Don't force her to if she doesn't want to marry. Even if she's not my flesh and blood, I'll consider her as a member of the Hankey family."

Sophia was walking in the corridor to the entrance of the hospital. She can't believe that her own mother wanted to use her as a bargaining chip. Turning around the corner, she saw Hannah clung to Josh intimately. The moment Hannah saw Sophia, she let go of Josh and went to her, looking apologetic and sad. Sophia did not even look at them and walk away. Hannah started to cry, and Josh felt pity for her as he held Hannah.

Inside the President's office of Dyson LTD. Nathan stood at the window, looking at the countless lights below.

"Pres. Mr. Anthony Hankey sent an invitation card." "It's his 77th birthday on the 3rd Sunday of this month."

"Grandfather Hankey's birthday?

Are you attending? Assistant Adams ask.

"Back then, the old Chairman usually send gifts during grandfather Hankey's birthday, or he would attend it personally, but now that old Chairman was abroad and won't be back anytime." 

Nathan takes the invitation card, opened it, took a glance, and returned it to assistant Adams.

"Well, we send a gift then."

Nathan picks up his windbreaker and then walked out of the office.

"You rest too. I'll drive myself tonight." 

Nathan disappeared at the door after his order. 

Sophia didn't go back home after leaving the hospital; she went back to the company, feeling tired. The weekend was tomorrow in a hurry, she forgot her phone and left some documents in the office. She was going to use her weekend to forget her problems. She did not want to think about it for a while, as there was an important project she would finish this coming week. The product launch was next week. She quickly left the office after taking the documents and her phone inside the drawer. While she was waiting for the elevator, she flips through the pages of the documents; then, she heard the bell and the door opening.

She walked in without looking, she tripped on her high heels, she screamed, and the papers in her hands scattered on the floor. She thought she was going to fall, but a strong hand prevented her. Falling into a warm chest and the familiar scent of pine and woody scent filled her nose.

"Be careful. Why are you in a hurry? 

It was a very familiar voice, the voice she always wants to hear. Sophia looked up and saw Nathan's handsome face, along with his lips curl up.

"Nate...President...You're leaving this late? Sophia was blushing.

"There was some urgent matter to be taken care of. If everyone in the company were as hardworking as you, I'm sure the company will double their revenue in a year."

Nathan picks up the papers that she drops on the floor.

"I'll get them, Pres." assistant Adams says. 

Sophia didn't notice that someone else was inside the elevator. 

"Director Hankey, you're really a dedicated employee," assist. Adams smiled while arranging the papers he picked up.

"I just forgot some documents and my phone. I came back to take them." Thank you! Assistant Adams. 

Nathan's expression turns warm as he picks up her phone and saw the picture. 

"Director Hankey, your screensaver was perfect."

Her phone was fall right beside Nathan's feet. It was true that she had taken a picture of him while he was sleeping. She really wants to disappear at the moment. 

Wait! Please give me back my phone! 

Nathan quickly raised his hands above.

"Give it back!

Nathan raised it again a second their bodies touched; Sophia's face flushed red. She was embarrassed and quickly pulled away. 

Nathan! Give it back! She tiptoed and tried to grab it, but he raised it higher so that she could not reach it. He was 184cm tall, while Sophia was just 159 cm tall. Her height barely reaches his chin. She was frustrated as she glared, and her face was even redder. 

Assistant Adams was laughing at the side. A sudden call saves her. 

He gave her phone back "mom" was the name he saw. Before she could answer, the phone was hang up. She turns off her phone. Then the elevator arrived at the ground floor. 

Sophia forgot Nathan and assistant Adams; as he was about to call Sophia, Nathan stops him. 

Sophia arrives at her car; she tried several times, but she could not start. She stepped out of the car and sighed helplessly. She took her phone and found the number of the auto repair company as she was about to press call; a black Porsche window rolled down, and Nathan's voice called her.

"Get in the car."Sophia was surprised to see him. He sighs, and Nathan called his assistant to handle the matter.
