I woke up with pain all over my body. And as soon as I opened my eyes, I was forced to shut them back. The light was too bright for my vision. It felt like my whole body was on fire. My abdomen was throbbing. The pain was dull but persistent. It made me feel the pain.
"Human, try again. I have blown a few candles off. The light is dim now." A very familiar, deep and low voice echoed in my ears and I obliged. True to his words, the light was dim here. But I still had to blink a few times to adjust myself to the light.
And when my vision cleared, my eyes fell on Satan's frame, standing in front of me. I was on a cot. Not on the floor, not on a carpet, but on a cot, with a hard mattress over it. But it was still something, still more than the floor I used to sleep on, in the room assigned to me.
He was no longer in his work clothes but in his dark cloak. The very outfit he wore when he didn't attend the courtroom. His hair looked a little damp to me, indicating he had just had a shower. And he smelled of the familiar almond and sandalwood scent, his bodywash was.
"How are you feeling now? Do you need something?" He asked me, his arms hanging loose over his sides and I pressed my lips to control my urge to say to take my pain away from his magic. Instead, I nodded my head.
"Water. Can I get some water, Satan?" I asked him, and he looked at me briefly for a few seconds before walking over to where the table was kept and started pouring water into the glass from the water jar before walking towards me to hand me the glass of water.
I grabbed it quickly from his hand and gulped it down. As I kept drinking water, it kept blessing my throat. It soothed my parched throat. It must have dried from all the screaming and crying.
"Thank you." I mumbled, and he nodded his head.
"How are you feeling now?" He asked me again when I didn't answer him the first time. I nodded my head, looking down at my clothes. I was in a large and loose gown. Maybe a hospital gown. I wasn't sure.
"Better. The pain is..... less now. And thank you, Satan. For saving me from that demon. I don't know what would've happened if you had not come on time." I said, and he shook his head, his arms now crossing over his chest.
"Then you would have become his next meal." He said casually. And when I raised my eyebrows at him, he decided to soothe my anxiety. "But that didn't happen, of course." He added, as if that justified the actions of the creatures living in his realm.
"Of course, it doesn't justify that attack made on you, human. And I feel very responsible for this attack. However, I want you to know that everyone who was responsible for this attack is being punished thoroughly." He said to me, as if that made everything okay. But at least, he was taking charge of the actions of his demons and not just ignoring them, like humans back on earth did.
"Thank you. But I hope you didn't punish Basilia for the accident. She just wanted someone to volunteer........"
"And she very well knew that a human is not a good choice for volunteering in the south area of the blood bank. Especially when they are aggressive about getting blood. And then she left you without making sure if you are safe or not. That's not how you take responsibility over a creature working under you." He said, and I licked my lips, nodding my head.
"And I want you to remember from next time, human, that you are not to work anywhere other than the courtroom. And this is an order. No matter who asks you to work, no matter how empathetic you feel at that particular moment, I don't want to see you working anywhere except the courtroom. Do you hear me?" He asked me and I let out a sigh, nodding my head.
"I understand very clearly now, Satan. I won't work anywhere other than the courtroom." And hopefully, that would keep the demons from attacking me.
"Are you cold?" He asked me, and I looked at him. For some reason, those three words made me shiver. And he raised his brows at me.
"No.... no. I am not cold anymore."
"Good. The medical unit visited you today and they injected you with stuff human doctors inject into your species when you suffer blood loss." Yeah, they inject us with blood. "They will pay you a visit in the evening. But I can call them if you are feeling any kind of pain or issues." He said, and I shook my head.
"I am fine. No need to call the doctors in an emergency. Have they left any painkillers for me?" I asked him and he looked at me for another minute before shaking his head.
"They are still working on the pills. However, they have suggested a healthy diet and plenty of rest for you, atleast for four earth days." Satan said, and my eyes widened as I looked at the King with my big eyes.
"That means you're going to sanction my leave for a few days?" I asked him in excitement and his lips twitched slightly as he shook his head.
"Don't get too excited, human. Hell has no sort of entertainment that can help you pass your free time. You'll eventually ask me for work. But as for your question, yes, you're on leave until you get cured. Now, come, we need to feed you. Ajax will be on duty for a few hours more than usual." Satan said, and I looked at him with my wide eyes.
Is he..... is he taking care of me?
