"Leah Summers, the soul working on the nótos, was sent to heaven today. And we don't have anyone to volunteer. Can you volunteer for today, Leah Summers?"
Basilia asked me, walking inside my room and I placed the book down. Satan asked me to read. I barely had time to read anything. And Satan wanted a report on the same thing. I wanted to deny it. I wanted to tell her how it is my holiday today. But I let out a sigh and nodded my head.
"For how many hours?" I asked her in defeat, closing the book, and she smiled widely at me.
"Seven hours." She answered me and I choked on my breath. Holy s**t! Seven hours. Seven hours in the nótos. I don't even know what the hell it is.
"Basilia, I have a book to read and make report on. I can only volunteer for a couple of hours." I said, and she frowned but nodded her head.
"As long as you want. But I'd really appreciate it if you could stay until the crowd dissipates, Leah Summers. We have a shortage of souls. And currently I have no one to seek help from. Sire would have my head if he found the nótos without anyone attending the customers." Basilia said, and I narrowed my eyes at her.
"But I thought hell had no customers, Basilia?"
"Markets don't. But nótos have customers. Many customers. But I promise you, I'll give you a day off from the courtroom. I really need a volunteer for nótos." She said, requesting me. The red-skinned demon was requesting me. It made my heart curl in pain. With a sigh, I nodded my head, getting on my feet.
"Fine, can you take me to the nótos? I don't know where this is?" I said with a nervous chuckle and the red-skinned demon laughed, nodding her head.
"Of course, Leah Summers. You're volunteering for me. The least I can do for you is drop you there. You might as well want to grab a coat." Basilia said, and I raised my brows at her. Coat in hell? Like, does she want me to die from heat?
"Nótos is the only area of hell which is cold. And it's like really cold, Leah Summers. You must grab a coat." Basilia said, and I looked at her with a small smile.
"Basilia, I don't have a coat. The dresses you brought for me had no coats. And I'm sure I can handle cold weather. It's too hot here, either way. I don't need a coat." I said, happy to be in cold weather, even if it is for a couple of hours.
"If you say so, Leah Summers. But don't blame me if you freeze there." Basilia warned me and I laughed, shaking my head as I grabbed my slippers before leaving the room, following the prosecutor.
Nótos took me a complete forty minutes to arrive. My legs were aching by the time we got there. And true to her words, nótos was cold. Really cold. It must be around three degrees Celsius. For a couple of minutes, the nótos felt nice. My body blessed Basilia for bringing me here. But slowly, I wanted to curse Basilia for getting me here.
"Are you the person Madame Basilia sent to volunteer?" A demon with no nose said, and I looked at him, nodding my head as I straightened my back. Though I was freezing there.
"That would be me— Leah Summers, the human on the probation period." I said, and he waved his hands at me.
"I don't care about your species, human. Get to the counter and serve the blood to the customers. Make sure to charge three gold coins for ten ounces of blood." The noseless demon said, and my eyes widened as I stared at the rude demon in front of me.
"Serving blood for money? What the hell?" I asked, taking a step back, and the noseless demon looked at me with a bored expression.
"Stop being dramatic, human. You don't have to give your blood. There's blood kept in the tub. You just need to serve the demons and charge them three gold coins for ten ounces of blood." He said, gripping my wrist and I hissed when his touch burned me painfully. Literally.
"Leave my hand. No-one is allowed to touch me. Get your hands off me." I said, gritting my teeth, and he raised his brows at me, an evil smile forming on his face as he pushed me against the counter, making my eyes to clench shut in pain.
"f*****g useless creatures. I don't know what the Sire saw in you to even keep you alive." The demon said, making my eyes to narrow in pure rage.
I glared at him, jerking his hand off me before I grabbed the apron kept on the counter and tied it around my waist.
"Are you sure, you guessed the correct useless person? Because come on, I'm working here. Working for hell. What are you doing here other than bullying people, of course?" I asked him with a bitter smile and his jaw clenched in anger.
"Get started with the counter number five. Do not misbehave or the hungry demons here will sink their canines in your veins to drink your blood. Enjoy your stay here, human. I'll make sure, you learn a lesson here." He said and I swallowed harshly.
My heart was beating loudly inside my chest, fearing for what was awaiting for me. When Satan said that not everyone is Basilia here, now I understand what he meant. And no matter how much it pains me to speak, I wanted Satan around me.
Satan made me feel safe around him. His presence assured me of the safety, I was lacking here. It would be shameful but true to accept that I wanted him around me.
"Hey, you, get me twenty ounces of blood." I said a slurry voice demanding me and I let out sigh, knowing I had no option left but to comply.
Save me Satan.
