Dirty Little Secret

1060 Words
All Davina could think about was next Tuesday’s warrior training. Days passed by in a blur and not even Richard could ruin her buzz. She thought to herself, “Harald. Harald is his name. That’s what the other instructor from Green River Pack called him while I was touching his fur. My mate’s name is Harald..” The thought of him rescuing her from that Gully Drake and his blue eyes played over and over in her mind as if it were her favorite scene from a movie. She floated around the house in a daze and no one even noticed. Richard was the same as usual, cold and callous, and Jolene oblivious. Davina didn’t care. There was light in her eyes. For the first time, she wasn’t afraid of the future. She knew that as long as he was going to be by her side she would be happy with whatever came next. She would never have to face anything alone again. Her dirty little secret burned in her heart like a flame that had been lit. “So this is what it feels like?” she said to Lexy while swapping the laundry over from the washer to the dryer. Lexy said, “Yes.. and I’m quite fond of his wolf. I’m surprised he’s not an Alpha considering the way he took down that freaky swamp lizard!” Davina smiled, silently amused. In class that week she had to focus hard to keep from day dreaming. It was difficult to focus knowing that she didn’t know a single thing about her mate other than his name and the fact that he was in the Vermillion Guard. She didn’t know if he accepted her or know anything about how he felt. All she knew was that it felt like her very soul was calling out for him. After class she saw Lena in the hall. Lena shouted, “Hey! Davina! Wait up!!!” Davina stopped walking so that Lena could catch up. Lena started talking about a new crush that she had on someone and Davina couldn’t help but tune her out a little. Lena always had a crush to talk about. She wasn’t scandalous though, just obsessed with love. Davina used to hate being the third wheel whenever Lena found some new flame, which was usually the case. Davina just wasn’t impressed with most men. They didn’t interest her. Sure she had a couple of crushes in the past, but it was rare. It’s not that she didn’t want love, because she desperately wanted love. She just wasn’t so desperate for it that she’d settle for someone that she wasn’t really attracted to. She had a lot of love to give. Looks were not at the top of Davina’s list for things that she found the most attractive either. What she really wanted was someone that she could connect with on a deeper level, someone that could partake in interesting conversations and not bore her to death. She was dying to know what Harald was like. She felt super guilty for not telling Lena about Harald. After all, that was a pretty huge thing. Eventually she would definitely tell her, but as for right now she wasn’t even sure about anything yet. She had to find out how he felt first. Then there was the fact that Lena, as much as Davina loved her, was terrible at keeping secrets. Harald was an instructor. If it was known that he was her mate, the school officials might not want him teaching her. She didn’t want to take the chance of not getting to see him again. Richard never let her go anywhere as it was. If he found out that Davina had a mate.. he’d probably do something to make her miserable as usual. Right now Davina needed those Tuesday meetings like she needed air to breathe. It was the highlight of her life right now. She was getting to do something she loved alongside of someone she loved. At home she stared at herself in her bedroom mirror. “I hope I can impress him or something this time..” she thought. She pinched her thigh fat and frowned. “Maybe I’m fat. Look at these thunder thighs.. And my knees.. I hate how my knees look.. Who am I kidding?” she thought to herself while frowning. Lexy spoke up, “Would you stop it already? Can’t a wolf take a nap in peace?” Davina huffed, “We need to run more! Maybe we can hit the trails again at Aunt Carly’s this weekend if we are allowed out of this jail cell..” Lexy sighed, “Can’t argue with that.” That night during dinner Jolene said, “Hey Davina why don’t you go spend the weekend with aunt Carly? I think she has a birthday gift for you and Richard wants to take me on a date.” Davina barfed a little in her mouth at the thought of Richard and Jolene on a date. She acted like it was no big deal though and played it off saying, “Sure, that’s fine with me.” She picked at her plate of bland butter beans. Butter beans were Richard’s favorite but Davina hated them and thought they badly needed some seasoning. She knew it wasn’t Jolene’s lack of cooking skills though because Richard always preferred everything bland, just like his personality. Davina once had a bottle of hot sauce that her aunt Carly had given her and she loved it. Sure enough, Richard fussed at her back then about that too. He claimed it would make holes in her stomach or some nonsense. He picked apart every little thing that made Davina unique and tore her down continuously. Thankfully, she didn’t have to ask permission to spend the weekend with aunt Carly though. She was relieved that Jolene beat her to the punch. Friday, after school, Davina packed her usual gym bag to get ready to go to her aunt Carly’s house. She contemplated whether or not she should tell aunt Carly about her new mate. She wasn’t sure how aunt Carly would react being she missed her own mate dearly. A knock at the door broke her out of her thoughts and she knew it was aunt Carly there to pick her up.
