Davina hopped into the old green truck smiling brightly at her aunt Carly. “You’re all smiles today! I love to see that smile honey!” said aunt Carly greeting her. “This smile right here is reserved for the best woman in the world!” said Davina. “I have a little gift for you when we get to the cottage.” said aunt Carly.
When they walked into the cottage aunt Carly walked over to the table where there was a little box sitting on the table wrapped in pretty pink paper with yellow ribbon. Davina said, “Aww you didn’t have to get me anything. Just being able to spend time with you is all the gift I need!” Aunt Carly replied, “You know I’m going to get my girl something for her birthday! I wish I could do even more!” Davina blushed with gratitude. “Go ahead and open it!” said aunt Carly with excitement.
Davina almost hated to tear the paper off because it was so pretty. When she pulled off the last of the paper she stared at the box in her hands. She recognized the name of a familiar cell phone company. “Oh my.. is it..?..” Davina exclaimed. “A phone!!! I have a phone!!!” Davina cheered. “Thank you! Oh my goodness thank you so much!!! I love it!!!” Davina beamed with joy and excitement.
Aunt Carly smiled tenderly and said, “I’m so glad you like it.. I knew you’d be going off to college soon and I wanted to get you something useful for your birthday. Now you can call me!” Aunt Carly smiled brightly. “But you may want to call instead of text because I haven’t quite figured out how you young ones text yet..” Davina giggled and said, “Don’t worry I’ll make sure to call you!” Aunt Carly responded, “It’s paid up for 3 months and then you’ll need to choose a phone plan that you prefer.” Davina looked up appreciatively, “I can’t thank you enough for helping me like you do.” Aunt Carly shrugged it off and said, “It’s not much honestly, sugar. I will have you a graduation present ready for when you graduate here soon also.”
Davina wondered what it could be. As aunt Carly prepared dinner for the night Davina enjoyed customizing her new phone. She added aunt Carly’s number and also sent a text to Lena letting her know that she now has a phone. Lena was excited to be able to communicate with Davina now even when they were apart. Davina decided to take a break from her phone to have dinner with aunt Carly.
Davina asked, “Hey aunt Carly would you mind if I went on a run tonight after dinner? My wolf is getting restless.” Aunt Carly looked up from her dinner and said, “Of course, just be safe and cautious as always. I’ll be right here watching my show on the i***t box when you get back.” Davina chuckled. Ever since aunt Carly got a television she referred to it as “the i***t box” because of some of the ridiculous things that people would say on the news at times. Davina would get quite amused watching her aunt Carly insult politicians and even late night entertainment hosts. She didn’t discriminate. Aunt Carly was a no nonsense kind of gal.
Davina finished eating her chicken and dumplings and headed out the door. The night was beautiful and clear. She decided that this time she would take a detour and visit the waterfall instead. It would be a perfect time for skinny dipping and she loved to swim. “Hey Lexy, are you down for a swim?” said Davina. Lexy responded, “I’m not much on doggy paddling, you go ahead and enjoy yourself. I’ll take over on the run back home.” Davina replied, “But what about my clothes?”. Lexy sighed and said, “We will have to carry them in our mouth.” Davina grinned, “Who’s a good girl?” Lexy scoffed, “Don’t push it. I might be tempted to roll in something smelly on the way home or sniff a butt or two at school.” Davina laughed and said, “Alright alright don’t get your hackles up..”
Davina and her wolf both enjoyed their walk and the sound of the locusts and crickets that accompanied them along the way. When they reached the waterfall they stopped and sniffed the air to make sure they were alone first. Davina breathed a sigh of relief and started kicking off her shoes and clothes. The ripples in the water glittered in the moon light and the gentle roar of the waterfall was calming. The mist from the waterfall coated her face and quenched her stress.
Harold had just been relieved of his post for the night when he decided that he would take a little late night stroll rather than go to the Delta Dive again. He happened to know where a great spot to relax was. There was a little waterfall not too far away that was on neutral territory between Green River and Black Creek packs. The two packs had an alliance anyway so neutral territory was not a big issue. No one ever ventured through there much anyway because of it’s close proximity to the rogue lands, although he had never encountered a rogue before on his many ventures to the waterfall.
He needed a spot to think and get away from the noises of the world. All he could think about was his mate but he wasn’t sure if she felt the same about him or how to approach her. If she was 18 then that meant that he was 8 years her senior. He was 26. She could potentially be disgusted by him. As many things as he had dealt with in his life.. the war and the killing that came with being in the Vermillion guard. There he was fretting about a girl. Harald’s wolf Bruno interrupted his thoughts saying, “We’ve fought terrorist packs! And yet a girl has you anxious. She is our mate Harald. Claim her and be done with it.” As he was approaching the waterfall he noticed a figure in the distance and stopped to catch a scent. “It couldn’t be..” he said to himself.
