Davina spent the remainder of the weekend at aunt Carly’s house just laughing and talking with aunt Carly and watching movies together. She tried to forget about her worries for a moment and appreciate good company. She knew she was beyond blessed to have an aunt like aunt Carly. At the same time aunt Carly was happy to see her little niece, whom she had watched grow up from the time she was a baby, finally get her wolf and then a mate too! She couldn’t deny that she was secretly worried about Davina though, but she didn’t want to say anything and take a chance of ruining any moment of happiness that Davina could potentially have.
Heaven knows that Davina deserved more happiness than she had experienced previously in her unfortunate life. This is why she encouraged Davina to go to college. She knew that Jolene wouldn’t really be there for her if she was too busy tending to Richard and the twins needs constantly. She knew that Richard would take any opportunity to make Davina look bad if Davina wasn’t successful in whatever career path that she chose. Aunt Carly was worried about this new man that was now in Davina’s life though.
She did not know him or what his intentions were towards her niece and that made her highly uncomfortable. She felt anger at the thought of anyone even possibly hurting her sweet Davina. She did not want the mate bond to distract Davina from becoming successful. She despised Richard and didn’t like how he treated her sister Jolene nor how he treated Davina. Richard didn’t like aunt Carly either because Jolene would often confide in her and Richard viewed that as a threat to his dominance and control over his family. He didn’t much like the fact that aunt Carly knew how much of a cruel selfish person he really was behind closed doors.
Aunt Carly looked at her niece who was now practically a grown woman with pity and thought to herself, “If only she knew why Richard really hated her.. But it’s not my place to tell her. Jolene would kill me if I told her that Richard wasn’t really her biological father.” She knew it would be any day now that Jolene would come clean about that fact and began to wander if she even would at all. After all, Davina was now the age where she was legally an adult and she deserved to know.
She didn’t like that Jolene kept this secret from Davina all these years. It was unfair to Davina. She grew up thinking that her own father hated her. And for what? To please Richard? Aunt Carly scowled at the thought. She definitely planned to have a talk with Jolene about this. It had been long enough and Jolene needed to tell Davina the truth or else she would just have to do it herself! Jolene no longer could use the excuse of being afraid that Davina’s real biological father would take her away. That excuse always worked on aunt Carly because she didn’t want to see Davina taken away either.
Davina sat cross legged on the floor watching television, oblivious to the thoughts raging inside of her aunt Carly’s mind. She knew it was about time to go home and as usual, she dreaded it with every fiber of her being. She wished she could just live with her aunt Carly and have a life of peace, but she would soon be leaving home anyway and did not want to become a burden on her aunt Carly. She didn’t want to be another mouth to feed or cause aunt Carly any worry whatsoever. She adored this woman and treasured every good memory that came from being with her every chance that she got.
Not only that, but she hoped that her mate would be waiting for her and welcome her with open arms also. Traditionally, that’s where she was supposed to be. She was supposed to join her mate. She respected aunt Carly and knew that her aunt Carly had already done so much for her already and she wanted to be successful and make her proud. And it was for this reason that she had already chosen not to come live with her aunt Carly after she moved out of Jolene and Richard’s house.
However, she needed to know what her mate’s thoughts were so that she could prepare and take the necessary steps to ensure that she could have both her mate, and her education after graduation. She needed to know which college was the closest to where he lived, and how to proceed and move forward with things now that she found the person she was meant to be with. It was sudden and unexpected for her to find her mate the same day that she turned eighteen, but it was not impossible. It was better that she found him now instead of while she was in the middle of college and too far away from him. She dismissed all the worrisome thoughts so that she could reluctantly go pack her bag for home once again. The thought that it would be one of the last times that she would ever have to pack her bag and go back to that place gave her some hope.
After aunt Carly dropped Davina off at home that Sunday, she motioned for Jolene to come speak to her privately outside. “Jolene, when are you going to tell her?” said aunt Carly boldly. Jolene looked around nervously and then replied with a whisper, “Soon, I’m going to do it soon, I promise. I just.. I just don’t know how to tell her yet. What if she hates me for keeping that from her?” Aunt Carly looked at Jolene scrutinizingly. “Well if she does hate you then you can’t be mad. It should have never been kept a secret from her from day one, but if it’s any consolation, I don’t think that she will hate you. You are her mother after all, and if you knew your daughter well enough then you’d know that she won’t ever truly hate you.” snapped aunt Carly.
Jolene frowned and said, “You know she’s going to want to meet him..” Aunt Carly relaxed a little and said, “So what? She knows where her home is.” as she smiled pridefully. A small smile escaped the corner of Jolene’s lips. Jolene knew deep down that her sister, Carly, was always going to be where Davina considered home. The thought actually gave her some comfort. Jolene continued by saying, “The last I heard, he’s rich and married to some snooty woman who’s also rich.. I don’t want her to get her feelings hurt if she finds out that there’s no room for her in his white picket fence picture so to speak.. And let’s not forget the fact that he doesn’t even know that she exists. I never told him I was pregnant, remember?” Aunt Carly sighed and said, “Well maybe it’s about time that he knew too then.”
