Chapter 39
Jasper pov
I can't believe they have everything done. I knew once the head builder was back, things would get done. Laura got into the car, and I knew we needed to head to the kingdom since Mart and Smith got hurt, so we had to get going to make sure they didn't need our help. I told Laura what had happened, and she agreed that we needed to go. Plus, she wanted to see LeeAnn just to make sure she was okay. It only took an hour to get to the kingdom, so we stopped at the gates. I told the guards that Xander was waiting for us, and he told the others to open the gate. Once done, we drove through. We parked the car and then got out. LeeAnn and Xander were waiting for us. LeeAnn ran over to Laura and they hugged.
“So, what happened? Is everyone okay?” That's when Xander explained everything to us.
“Mart's mate decided after three years apart that she wanted to come home. Thankfully, I already killed his father not more than five hours ago. Mart went to pick her up from the airport. They were almost home when rogues wrecked their cars. Just some bumps and bruises, but Smith was worse off. He's newly shifted. His wolf is strong. I made him walk his human to the hospital, and then he fell to his knees. I needed to see if anything was wrong with his wolf. He was okay, just used lots of his energy to heal his human. Smith is doing better; he just hit his head hard and had a few stitches. He will heal in a few hours.”
“Does anyone know why they attacked them?” I waited for them to say something, but they only looked at each other and then back at us.
“We're not sure. I think it's because we killed their leader, Mart's rogue father, so they wanted to hurt us. Or it could be something else; we're not really sure. But we need to figure things out. We did get one rogue; he’s in the cells right now. Care to walk there with us? We're about to go question him.”
“Yes, of course. Let's go.” We walked toward the cells, and we could already hear people screaming, wanting out. I knew Xander kept his cells clean, but you could still smell death when you walked into the room. The guards opened the two large doors, letting us inside.
‘He's already chained to the chair. We had to put his head in a sling since he kept trying to bang his head on the table. I think he knows what's about to happen.
“Very good, you did a good job doing that,” Xander said. We walked toward the holding room where they interrogate rogues, but Laura just stood there looking around. Then she came back to her senses. It was a weird sight to see when she does that, but I'm getting used to it.
‘Xander has been here before many years ago, but since he was just a kid, you let him go. He thinks you're going to kill him once you find out what he has done.”
“Well, he should be scared. He should have never tried to kill any of my members here, or anyone else for that matter,” we walked into the room. As soon as the rogue saw us, he stopped screaming. He knew Xander. He started talking right away.
“Sir, I'm sorry. I know you set me free when I was just a teenager. We were told if we didn't do what we were told, they would kill us. We had no choice. I was shocked when he confessed what he had done. That's surprising because no rogue has ever confessed his wrongdoings before. What is going on? So, I decided to ask him.
“Who are you working for, and who told you to wreck those cars? Don't lie to me because I will know if you do.” He looked at me then at Laura, and then he started telling us everything.
“We weren't trying to hurt anyone. We were trying to get your mate. This woman wants her for some reason, so we thought she would be in one of those cars. We should have left when we found out that she wasn't in the car, but we just wanted to make sure they were okay. You see, we are long rogue wolves. We work, and we don't hurt anyone. But she found us. I don't know how, but she found where we were living. You could say we are a pack, but we consider ourselves lone wolves since we don’t have an alpha. We come and go as we please, but we also buy food for us to eat. We have running water, and we do not steal. She came knocking about a week ago. She sat down in our living room with a few of her people. She told us of a woman that has very powerful powers, and she wants her. She then told us if we do not do what she tells us to do, then she will make our life miserable. She took the building we were staying in and bought it. She kicked us out, making us look for another home. We got fired from our jobs. People thinks we were stealing. They said they got a phone call telling our bosses that we were stealing. We were honest and told them we weren't, but that didn't stop them from firing us. Now we live in the woods. We were trying to avoid that, but we had no choice right now. She said her next step is to start killing us one by one. What else did we have to do? We didn’t have a choice.” I looked at Laura, asking her if he was telling us the truth. She said he was. Then it was her turn to talk to him.
“This woman that you talk about, what is her name, and what did she look like? What does she want with me, and just so you know, I will know if you're lying as well,” he gulped when he looked at her. He was scared of her.
“I don’t know what her name is. She never told us, but she had bright red hair and brown eyes that looked black. I believe she is a witch or trying to be a witch. She said you were evil and had to take your powers away before it was too late for you, but she is the evil one. If you do have powers, you need to be careful. People will come for you; they will test you to see what powers you have. I know of some witches that can absorb the powers from you; they will try,” it was Xander's turn to talk. He was angry because now they have no home to go to. “I know of a house that is a few yards away from the kingdom. I think I know what he was about to say to them.
“Listen to me carefully, I want you to mindlink your friends. I want you to tell them to come to the kingdom. I have a house a few yards away from the castle. It has running water, and I will have a few omegas to bring food so it will be stocked up. You and your friends will work for me. You can tend to the gardens and the horses, even clean the castle up. I will give you $15 an hour and have two days a week off; you can pick those days. I want you to do it right now,” so that's what he had done, then his eyes went back to normal.
"Sir, what about the guards? They should be here in about ten minutes. They stuck by close just in case I was let go.”
“They already know. I have some rules, so let's get you free from this chair, and we will stand outside until they get here. Just so you know, if you break any of these rules, there won't be a third chance; you will die. Now let's get out there and wait."
