Chapter 23

Rizi's POV

I don't understand why we have to hide the fact that we have mates, but ever since Cherry has been alpha, she gets jealous and threatens to kill all of us men. I think she's crazy. Not to mention that we still haven’t found the person who poisoned our alpha. I had a feeling who did it, but I don't have any proof. I was spending time with my mate when Cherry mind-linked me and asked me to come into the office. I sighed as I put my glass of tea down on the coffee table.

“Let me guess, she wants you in her office?” chuckling I said.

“Yeah, I don't know why this time, but I guess I'll find out when I get there. I'll be back shortly, babe.” I kissed her cheek and walked out of the house. We were in the middle of watching a movie. The movie was about to start when I got the mind-link. She better make this fast so I can get back home. She already knows I have a mate; she just doesn't know who it is. It's none of her business. When I got to the office, I stood there and said,

“Yes, Alpha. Is everything alright? Did you find out who killed your mate and our alpha?” I knew that wasn't the reason why she called me in there. It's just something I had to say because I already know who did it. I just have to find proof, and when I do, she will have to leave so I can look around.

“No, I haven't found out yet. But I need you to do me a favor. You need to keep this between you and me.”

“Well, alright. What's going on? Something tells me I'm not going to like this, and I won't want to do it. I'm waiting for her to tell me before I make up my own mind.”

“What's going on is that Miller isn't doing his job that I told him to do. He decided that his mate is more important than the mission I sent him on to get the person who can see into the future. He was going to make her fall in love with him, but since he found his mate, he decided on another plan. And I want this person here right now. What I want you to do is kill his mate right in front of him, then kill him. I don't need him anymore; I have my own plan that starts after you kill them. All you need to do is bring me back some proof that they are dead, and my plan will start. I will pay you with something that I think you have been wanting for a long time,” she winked at me. I felt like I was going to throw up in my mouth. I have never wanted this. She's evil, and I want nothing to do with her. I need to get in contact with Miller so I can warn him. Sighing, I had to make her happy so I could get out of there. So I simply said,

“Alright, I'll leave tomorrow and head there. What proof do you want?” I was hoping she would say a bloody shoe or bloody clothes, but instead, she said,

“I want their hearts in a box, both of them.” I wanted to gag, but I kept my cool.

‘Alright, done. You will have their heart in three days. I'll leave tomorrow, and I will get it done.’

Miller's POV

After I spoke to Cherry, I was still angry. She knew for years I have been looking for my mate; she was just a side piece until I found her, and she had the audacity to threaten to kill her. I knew I hadn't heard the last of her. I looked at Hazel; I still couldn't believe she is all mine. When I found her, she was in the lobby behind the desk. Tonight was her first night at work. When I walked in by following her scent, she was busy talking to someone who needed a room for the night to get back on the road the next day. When she finished, she looked up, smiling at me. Then she told me her name and her story. She's a lone wolf and only needed a job to save up money to get to the next town. She planned to work here for a year before moving on; however, since she has me, maybe we could move on together. I liked that idea. Though I have plenty of money, we didn’t need to move on; we could form our pack together. I could buy land and build onto it. So, we were in the middle of talking about things like that when I got the mindlink from Cherry. To my surprise, I wasn't even angry. I told her I had found my mate, and I was going to take a different route, but she had a fit and decided to threaten my mate. Nobody was going to do that, and I made that clear. Suddenly, I received another mindlink, so I opened it. Well, damn, I haven't heard from Rizi since I've been here. He keeps to himself and hasn't told anyone besides me that he found his mate – only a few people know he found her, nobody else.

"Hey Rizi, everything okay?”

“No, the b**** called me into her office to talk, and you'll never guess what she wants me to do.”

“Let me guess, she wants you to kill my mate and then kill me, right? Well, I have a plan. Hazel and I are going to buy some land and form a pack. If you want to join and help, you're more than welcome. Just think about it. I'm not going to take you away from the pack you've been with your whole life. Consider it, and let others know about my plan as well. I'm going to the elders tomorrow to discuss buying land.”

“Miller, I don't need to think about anything. Let me know when and where. I'm packing up after we're done, and I'll inform my mate. She'll be happy to leave here. I'll also mindlink some of the members. Stay safe; we'll be there tomorrow after noon.”

Alright, man, I will get a room for y'all right now. See you tomorrow. The link got shut off. Looking at Hazle, I asked her if she could rent out a few rooms.

"Sure, how many do you think will be coming?"

"I'm not sure, I think maybe the whole pack, but we will see. Just do ten for right now." She did something with the computer and then made the keys.

"We can't touch them until they get here. That way, we can hand them to the group. Then the pads will have their handprints when. Do you think they will be here?"

"Who's supposed to be here?" We jumped when we heard Laura's voice. Hazel looked over at her boss and told her that there's going to be half a pack coming to stay.

"Oh and what for? Is there a gathering that I don't know about?"

"No ma’am, well. I'm going to be honest with you, Mrs Laura. Miller and I are mates. We are going to buy land and start our own pack. I think Miller needs to tell you the rest. I already know everything. But he needs to tell you. It's not my place." I looked in shock. How did she know? Is she a spy for Cherry? What's going on here?

"I’m not a spy for Cherry, honey. I can read mindlink and minds. I really think you need to tell Laura everything, because if you don't, you're going to get yourself killed." I knew she was right, but it did shock me when she just said she can read mindlink and can read minds.

"Mrs Laura, I think you need to sit down. This is going to be a very long story. But I promise I’ll make it short."

Laura's POV

I was tossing and turning and could not sleep. This is going to be hard when Jasper isn't here. I tried again to get some sleep, but it just didn't work. Screw it. I got up to put on a robe. After my run, I'll put some clothes on. So I went out into the woods. The first crack was a little painful since I hadn't shifted in a while. When I finally shifted into Sissy, I started running and then jumping up on the trees. I knew she needed out. She was having so much fun, she even hunted a deer. Once she was done, I let Sassy out. She hunted a rabbit and played around just like Sissy did. Once they were happy, I shifted back into my human form and then got dressed. I noticed that Hazel was talking to a renter. So I walked into the lobby. I overheard her saying when they would get here. Then the man said I needed to sit down and he had a lot to tell me. Damn it. Why did I have to come in here and ask questions? Sighing, I sat down in one of the chairs in front of them.

"Alright, spill it. Why are they coming, and when will they be here? What do I need to do to keep them safe? And how many guards and warriors do we need?" I was asking all kinds of questions. Then he started telling me.

Mrs. Laura, I was sent here to make you fall in love with me so I could take you back to my alpha, so she could use you for your powers. That was her plan. My plan was to get you and your mate back together so you and he could be powerful together. She wants to use you to see the future, to identify potential traitors before they act. When I told her that I found my mate and was going a different route, she threatened to kill my mate. Now she has ordered my best friend to come and kill her and then me. He and his mate will be here tomorrow; I'm not sure who else will be coming with them, but we can't stand her. We all believe she poisoned the old alpha to become the alpha. She is misusing her power for unethical reasons. When I heard that you woke up, I knew one thing for certain: you and your mate needed to be together. I hadn't even considered finding my mate, but now that I have found her, I want to do right by her. The first step is to build a pack for those who need to get away." After he stopped talking, I sat there thinking about what I was going to do. It's time for all this pretending to stop; I can't continue as if I don't know anyone.

"Alright, guys. I'm about to call someone down here. Don't be scared when you see a bright light.

"Alright, Slenea, I need you down here with the higher-ups. I don't care if they will never be seen. At least one of them has to come with you; there's a change of plans, and it has to be done. Now, if you don't mind, I need you here right now.

"My, aren't you a demanding woman," Slenea was there with another woman. She looked nice, but her eyes told a different story. Slenea, I know you heard him; I can't pretend. I no longer know anyone. There are powers I'm supposed to be getting; I need them now.

"Young lady, you don't speak to the higher-ups like that. You will get your powers when we say you will receive them." And when will that be? Because a woman is after me. Did you know about this, Selena? Is this the impending conflict you mentioned? If you want me to defeat her, I suggest you act now. I don't care who you think you are, but this concerns my whole life, my family. How dare you do this.

"Woah, Laura," Selena said. She turned to the other woman.

"Nacey, we need to do something for her. We've taken away everything she has ever loved. How much more does she have to endure to achieve this?" She looked at Selenea with a disgruntled expression before composing herself.

"Fine, you now have your powers. You will have to figure out how to use them. You will have several months to solve it. I will have the queen postpone it until then. She will contact you in the morning. That's it. You will need to figure out how to win back your mate. Once he learns you have your memories back, that will be on you. I won't assist with that. We need to leave, Selena. Our work here is done." They both departed in a bright light. Now, what do I do? I have my powers now. I need to learn how to wield them and how to tell Jasper I have my memories back. Maybe I can create a delay for another few weeks. Let's hope I can manage that unless he figures it out on his own.
