Chapter 20
The higher-ups, pov
"Selena, we have been watching you help Laura lately. You knew it was against the rules, but you did it anyway. We had decided to let it slide this time. We have also decided to let her start remembering Jasper and what they had. But on one condition: you must make sure that Rice's mother does not pass until she is ready. Her mother's health has been going downhill lately. You must find a second chance mate for her. If you can't, then Rice will have her heart broken by finding her mother passed away very soon. You know how our werewolves can be; once they lose a mate, it's not long before they follow them. She's been fighting to get her health back up, but she's failing."
"Yes, I understand. But I already gave her more time; I had given her ten more years, but she doesn't want it. What am I supposed to do?"
"We can not tell you that; you need to figure it out on your own. We give you six months." Selena bowed her head out of respect. She knew what she needed to do. She had found someone, someone who lost his mate long ago, but he too has lost his health. He wasn't an alpha; he was Alpha Creek's beta. He lost his wife in a car wreck when a drunk driver hit her car head-on. They both died, and the cops found all kinds of beer bottles in his car. Now, if I can get them together, it would be great. Let's just hope I can do this.
Laura pov
I woke up very early this morning. I wanted to shower and get ready for today. I almost forgot that Jasper was on the couch in my room. When I got out of bed, I saw him laying there, all covered up. I felt bad making him sleep on the couch. I wanted to see what he would do. I was kind of hoping he would sneak into my bed and hold me, but he was a true gentleman. So, I tip-toed to the bathroom, locking the door. I did my business, then took a shower. I was glad I brought my clothes in here; I didn't want to walk out there naked. After my shower, I dried off, got dressed in ripped jeans and a button-up tan shirt, brushed my hair, put it in a high ponytail, and then brushed my teeth. I was done getting ready. So, I unlocked the door and walked out into the bedroom. He was wide awake, already dressed, but he rushed by me to the bathroom, shutting the door. Yep, he had to use the bathroom. I softly laughed as I waited for him. Once he was done, he came out.
‘Are you ready? I'm sure your people are here as well, so let's get down there. I'll show you my office so you can work. It's right by the kitchen, so if you need anything, all you have to do is call out to me, and I'll be in there, okay?" He nodded as we walked to the elevator. We hit the first floor. Once it stopped, we got out, and I showed him where my office was. Then we walked to the lobby to greet the new guest. His Delta was there, with a bunch of other people, tools, and lumber. I looked outside, and there were two truckloads of items for the hotel. I was shocked. I didn't ask for any of this. I slowly turned around, with him smiling from ear to ear.
“Wait, before you say anything, I know you didn't ask for any of this, but I wanted to help. Please take these items as a gift from me. I promise you don't have to pay me back. Just take them as a gift.” I didn't know what to say. I was just shocked. My heart was beating so fast that I didn't know what to say or do. After a few seconds, I found my voice and said the only thing I could:
"Alright, I will take it as a gift, but don't think I will ever forget what you just did for me. Thank you so much, this means the world to me." I leaned toward him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. I knew he wanted it on his lips, but I wasn't going to do that with a room full of people. Then he started talking to everyone.
“Okay guys, the show is over. Just follow her to the kitchen and dining room. She will show you what needs to be done. And stop those smirks. It's time for work. Paul, follow me so we can get this paperwork done to help out.” I watched them leave. I then had the workers follow me to the kitchen and dining room. I showed them the blueprint, and one of them spoke up:
“Ma'am, if we make the kitchen bigger, we will need to knock down the wall and expand it. The same goes for the dining room. Do you have the land for that?” I remembered the will my parents left me. This whole land was mine. I could build a pack here if I wanted. Wait, what did I just say? Never mind. I then said to him:
“I own this whole land, plus the land with the woods in the back. My parents left me this. So do what you must. How long do you think it will take? The royals want to have a ball here in a month. If it's going to take longer, I could always call them and ask if they could move the ball back by several months.”
“I think it's a good idea. It's going to take several months to get the kitchen and the dining room done. Half of my men will be doing the kitchen, and the other half will be doing the dining room. I promise, once it's done, you're going to love it,”
“I trust you. Well, let's get this started. I'm going to go check and see if your alpha needs anything, and I will be right back to help out. I left to go see if he was hungry. I walked toward my office. I stopped when I heard them talking. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I just wanted to know what they were talking about.
‘Before we get this work done, do you think she remembers anything?”
“I don't think so. When I was singing to her, she gave me one h3ll of a kiss, but she stopped and ran from me. The only thing I can do is wait and see. I don't want to rush her.”
“I think that's a good idea. The thing about her getting her powers is crazy.”
“Yeah, it is, but that's going to come in time. I just hope she can handle it. If she needs me in here for her, I'll help her any way I can.” I didn’t want to hear any more. He loved me, but he wants to help me with my powers. What powers are those? Did he know before he came? Then I heard the next few sentences.
“I can't believe the moon goddess came to you and told you about this. She doesn't usually do this. But she told me why she took her memory away. She wanted to find out if Laura could do this on her own. She didn’t tell me what powers she was getting, and I don't want to know. The less I know, the better. But I wish she would at least let her remember me. I love her, man. I know Laura wanted to do this on her own. She made a choice. I can't be mad at her for wanting to do this on her own. I could be mad, but I just can't. In time, she will remember me. I just don't want her angry at me for knowing this.”
"Well, you didn't know until today, so she can't be angry with you for that. Let's just get this paperwork done before she walks in here and demands that you eat something.” They both chuckled as the room got quiet, and all I could hear was papers being rustled around. I leaned against the wall, closing my eyes. I started having flashbacks about everything, about Chef and how he beat the h3ll out of me. I almost died. How I met Jasper and what we talked about. When I opened my eyes back up, I remembered everything, every single thing that had happened. I wasn't angry at all. I was thankful that I remembered. I made that choice. I could smell his scent, honey and lemon. Oh, how I wanted to go to him right now to tell him I remember, but I needed to play this out. I wanted to see how he was going to help me, what he was going to do to help me. Taking a deep breath, I'm about to make another choice, a choice I might regret. I walked in there, acting like I didn't hear anything. When I did, they both looked up from the paperwork.
“I was wondering if you two are ready for something to eat, or do you want to wait a little longer so you can get the rest of your work done?”
