wanted to hire 8

Chapter 8 Laura's POV I woke up this morning, almost forgetting where I was. I thought I was back in that hospital waking up with no one in that room. If someone was in there, I would have probably stayed calm and asked questions about why I was there and how long I had been there. I realized I was in my room, sitting up in bed. I looked at the time—it was six am in the morning; it was time to get up. I got dressed and didn't bother to shower since I showered last night. I put my hair in a high ponytail. I saw a pair of boots on the side of the bed, so I put them on and walked out of the room, locking the door. I went down to the lobby and saw Lucy behind the desk once again. "Isn't there anyone else that can be behind that desk?" I thought. "Didn't we hire other people to do desk work?" Walking up to her, that's what I asked her. "Isn't there anyone else that we hired to be behind the desk? I'm sure you have other things to do around here besides standing in one spot all day," I said. She looked up at me with a look of surprise on her face and then started laughing. "You must have read my mind because last night, I was thinking I was going to talk to you about hiring more people so we could do more around here." "Well, here we go then. How about we put a help wanted sign out front or do it online? Do you know how to do that?" "Yeah, I know how to do that. I'll do it right now. They have to be eighteen or over and have to follow the rules. They need to be werebear, werewolf, or werecat. No humans because you never know when someone is going to shift." I got confused again, but other than that, I wasn't going to say anything, so I let her do this on her own. I went into the kitchen to see what was for breakfast. There were already people in here sitting and eating before they left. I saw a few children playing around. I made myself some eggs and toast, sat down, and ate. Then, I was done. I didn't have a clue what to do until one of the cooks came out of the kitchen. Mrs. Laura, I need to order more eggs and other items for breakfast and dinner. Not to mention, we're almost out of coffee and other types of drinks. Additionally, we're running low on kids' food like chicken fingers and pizza with cereal. I was making a long list, realizing how many things we were lacking. Did Lucy know how to handle any of this? Maybe I didn't teach her properly. I'll have to take care of it myself. My plan to return to the hospital will have to wait a little longer. I went into another room where there was a computer. I sat down, turned on the computer, and looked at the files. I figured out how to distinguish one file from another and how to place orders. It took me a few hours to grasp the process and another hour to find the items we needed. I even discovered some new items to order. It couldn't hurt to try them out. Once I finished, I clicked 'submit,' and it was done. Getting up from the seat, I found the cook I had spoken to earlier. He was busy chopping vegetables for tonight's dinner. "Alright, everything is ordered and should arrive in a few days. Is there anything else I need to know or order?" "No ma'am, that's all I needed. Thank you for ordering everything we require. I was also wondering if I could take a few days off next week. My partner is due any day now, and I would like to spend time with her and the baby." I couldn't help but smile at the thought of a new baby. How adorable! I wondered what their baby would look like. Did I even know his wife? I decided not to ask that question to avoid seeming ignorant. So, I simply acknowledged his request. "I have no problem with that, honey. We are hiring more people to help out. You can take a whole week off next week to spend time with your family, okay? Thank you so much. I can't wait to tell them when I get home tonight." He hugged me, then went back to cutting up the carrots. Walking out of the kitchen, I went back to see what Lucy was doing. When I saw her on the computer, I walked over to see what she was doing. "So, did you get everything up and going yet? I'm sure there will be people here tomorrow or later today to apply for the jobs you posted. Don't forget to put up a cook position. I told the cook he could have a week off next week because his wife is due any day now. He wants to spend time with them." Lucy: "Of course, I put in for a second cook. That way, he can have a break from time to time." "Thank you, Lucy. Well, I guess I put this off long enough. I am heading back there to find out about a few things. Keep your fingers crossed that they don't kill me when I get there."
