Chapter 9
Jasper POV
When they entered my office, I was ready to get this done and over with. I needed to get on the computer to see if I could find my mate. They walked into the room, and Creek sat down. Right away, he started talking.
"Alpha Jasper, I'm not going to beat around the bush. I'm here to find my mate. I don’t care if she is an omega, beta, gamma, or warrior. I just need to find her. Is there any way you can call them into your hall so I could see if any of them is my mate?" Was this man crazy? Coming into my land asking me to line up all the unmated in the hall to find his mate? Well, I want to find mine. And I know that Hayes and my sister have something going on. I can tell. They steal glances at each other, their hands bump into each other. But I'm not going to say anything right now. Let them play this lovesick game for however long they want. They will come forward sooner or later. Sighing, standing up from my desk, looking over at my sister, and then at my gamma and beta, I said, "Get all the unmated females to the hall, even the omegas. Mila, you might want to go in there as well since you haven't found your mate yet." The look of shock was on her face, and I could have sworn that Hayes let out a growl. I was only joking about that, but I also wanted to see what would happen.
Then Alpha Creek spoke up, “Alpha Jasper, there is no need for that. I have already spoken with her. She's not my mate. I would have felt it.” I was laughing inside because I already knew they weren't mates, but I wanted to see the look on my sister's face. It was priceless, nothing but brotherly love right here. I couldn't help but chuckle when my sister flipped me off.
"Alright, let's get this done, and make sure that Rice, the omega, is there as well. She likes to train with the warriors. She's determined to become one."
“I see, I can't wait to meet her. But I can't promise you that she's my mate. I knew he was excited about meeting her; I could hear his heart beating fast when I mentioned Rice's name. Let's just hope she comes. She has told me a few times that she's scared of a mate because her father used to be mean to her mother. I wasn't sure about what she meant by being mean to her mother, but I had a feeling. He passed away a few years back from a brain tumor. Let's see if she will show up."
Rice's POV
I hated to admit it, but I was loving this training. My mother finally admitted to me that I wasn't my dad's child a long time before we came to this pack, that she was in love with a beta who was her true mate. He never found out she was pregnant with me because a hunter found and killed him. So, I never got to know my real father. She told me that before I was born, she met her second chance mate. He was nice at first, but then suddenly, he started being really mean to Mom. I would see bruises on her arms and legs, never on her face or neck. She would tell people she fell or bumped into a door or something, but I knew what was going on. When he got sick, Mom took care of him. That's when he got really mean, and at the end, he couldn't even lift his head up. Mom had to feed him. Let's stop talking about this; I don't want to end up crying during training. After training, Mila came up to me and told me that all unmated females should be in the hall, so I needed to shower and look my best. Rolling my eyes, I did what I was told. I heard that an alpha was coming, and I had a feeling he was looking for his mate. So I went upstairs, took a shower, dried off, then got dressed. I wore my favorite ripped jeans and a top that tied on the side. I did my hair in a high ponytail. Then I wore my knee-high boots, did a little makeup with eyeshadow, eyeliner, and that's it. I didn't like a lot of makeup; I didn't want to look like a clown. Well, this is going to be as good as it gets. Taking a deep breath, I headed toward the hall. I saw other unmated females with skirts or dresses on; they were wanting to be mated to an alpha. I just wanted to train. I stayed an omega because my mother was one. But I had a cat; her name is Sheba. I shifted two years ago. Even Alpha and Luna Laura knew I shifted. She was really black, with a speck of white on the tip of her tail. My mom also has a cat, but she can't shift; she never could. She says that her cat talks to her all the time about getting stronger so she can, but she's just too old. You're never too old to learn new things. When I walked in there, a scent suddenly hit my nose like a brick wall. The scent was of sunflowers and lemons; I don't know why, but that scent made me want to follow whoever it belonged to. Then I stopped in my tracks. No, no, no, I will not leave my mother here. Looking up on the stage, I knew he did not notice me yet. He was too busy talking to Alpha Jasper. This was my chance to get out of here. I turned to run, but my mom stopped me. I was shocked that she was here; she had a small smile on her face. Then she said to me,..."
Honey, you cannot run from fate. I have a secret to tell you. I came from this pack long ago before Alpha Creek was an alpha; he was just a small kit at the time. His father was the alpha, Alpha River; that's what his name was. If Creek is your mate, I will go with you. Just stay here and find out. I trusted my mother, but I was scared. What my dad did to my mom will forever be stuck in my head. I saw her look into my eyes, then she looked up over my shoulder. I knew he was standing behind me. My heart was beating so fast that I thought it would beat right out of my chest. I was sure he could hear it; I'm sure everyone could hear my heart beating. I slowly turned around and was met with the beautiful green eyes of my mate. He had dark hair that he had pulled back in a ponytail. I was sure he was about 6.3, maybe even taller because I had to look up at him. I wanted to run, I was terrified of this man. My Sheba stopped me. She said, "Stay calm, my human. He's not going to hurt us. He wants us; he wants his mate." I heard what she had said, but I was still scared. Sheba can be reasonable sometimes, but she also wants her mate, so she wants me calm. I watched as he slowly took my hand in his, bringing it up to his lips, kissing the back of my hand, and then placing it back down. Then he said, "What is your name, my little mate?" I heard gasps around the room. I heard a female say, "She's just an omega. I bet he's going to reject her and pick one of us to be his mate." I heard a few others talking as well, but I didn't pay any attention to them. My attention was fully on this sexy man standing before me. I finally spoke to him, "My name is Rice Blake, and this woman here is my mother, Belinda. When we leave, she is coming with us. I hope that is okay." "Of course, it's okay. You're my family now, and so is she. She's my mother-in-law. My name is Creek Regina. Shall we accept each other? I will go first." "I, Creek Regina, accept you, Rice Blake, as my mate and Luna for life." So, he didn't want to know my name to reject me; he wanted to know my name to accept me. I looked over at my mom, then back at Alpha Creek. Then I said, "Do you still want me even if I am an omega? I needed to know if that's what you really wanted." He surprised me when he spoke to me again. "You are far from an omega, sweetheart. You have Beta blood in you. But to answer your question, I will want you even if you were an omega. I do not go by title, my little mate; I go by how people treat each other." Then he turned to the girl that called me an omega and said to her, “You, young lady, will be lucky to even get a mate with an attitude like that. And look at you: you look like a clown with all that makeup and the dress you're wearing; it looks like if you bend, it will split in two. Be careful how you speak about my mate, young lady; you might not like what will happen next." Before he could hurt her feelings any more, because I felt bad about what he said, but then again, she did look like the dress could split in half at any second. "I, Rice Blake, accept you, Alpha Creek Regions, as my mate and alpha for life." When he heard those words, he picked me up to softly kiss me and said, "We will go at your pace. Let's go to your house so you and your mom can pack, so we can head home."
