Chapter 10
Laura's POV
I was trying to find my way back to this place. It seems my feet knew where to go; the voices in my head would tell me to go straight or go to the left or right. Finally, I saw an entrance between two large trees. Once I stepped onto the land, two huge guards blocked my path. I had to stop so I wouldn't bump into them. Then they looked down at me with shocked faces. I think they weren't sure whether to let me through, but after a few minutes, one of them spoke to me.
“Luna Laura, is that really you? Why did you run from us last night? We weren't going to hurt you.” I wasn't sure if they were talking about the same person, but my name is Laura, so I told them.
“I'm not sure if I'm the right Laura you are talking about, but I came here to get some answers. Is your boss available? If he is, I would like to speak with him. I need to know why I was in that hospital and how long I have been there. So if you do not mind, can you take me to your boss, please?” Again, they looked confused. Then the other guard stepped closer to me and said:
“If you follow me, I will lead you to him. He's in the hall right now with the unmated females. There's an alpha here who is looking for his mate,” I shrugged. I might as well get this over with, but I didn't want to do this in a room full of people either. So, I asked them to take me to his office. Then, they could let him know I was waiting for him. So, that's what they did. They walked me to his office, walked out the door, and a few seconds later, one of them came back into the room and said to me,
“The Alpha will be here shortly. Please make yourself comfortable, and he will be here soon enough. We will be out here by the door if you need anything.” I nodded and said thank you. While I was waiting, I took a look around the room. There was a dark marble desk with a flat-screen computer, a load of files that looked like they needed tending to. He had photos on his desk as well. Curiosity got the best of me, so I got up to look at the frames. I was shocked when I saw a photo of me and this man. He had his arm around my waist. He was looking at me with so much love in his eyes. He was very handsome. I wanted to see him in person, I wanted to hear his voice. Maybe I will remember something. But I was also scared. Maybe his mate passed away, and I look like her. Maybe that's the deal here. He thought I was her, so he wanted to save me from whatever happened to me. Anything is possible, right? I hurried to sit back down. I started to hear footsteps. A few of them; he wasn't alone. Was I about to be in trouble? I got up from my seat to stand by the window. I didn't want to be sitting down when he walked into the door. I was facing the windows looking out into the woods. How I wished I didn't come here. I should never have stepped foot back on this ground again. But I needed to find out what happened to me, why I was here, and how long I had been here. I heard the guards talking to someone. They told him who I was. Then I heard someone rushing into the room. I quickly turned to see who it was that was running in here.
It was the man that was in the photo. "Oh s**t, he was more sexy than I thought, but I had to hold my own here. I didn't want him to think I was his wife. Just because I looked like her does not mean I am her," I thought. He came rushing toward me with his arms out as if he wanted to hold me. Holding my hand up, I said, “STOP!” He stopped, looking so confused. I felt bad about what I was about to say, but I needed to say this before he tried anything else. Somehow, I knew I was going to hurt him when I said this. I felt bad because I looked so much like her, but this needed to be said.
“Listen, I’m sorry, but I’m not her. My name is Laura. I might look like your wife, but I’m not her. Okay, your wife passed away, and you found me somewhere and brought me here to help me. I thank you for that. But I’m here to ask a few questions. What happened to me? And how long have I been here? A friend of mine said, ‘I have been gone for three years. Is that true?’” I asked. His face had a look of hurt in his eyes. He stood there like he wanted to say something but just couldn't. Then I heard someone else's voice, a female. She walked over to me slowly and began talking.
“Listen, I know you’re confused. I would be too if I were you. But you are the Laura that we have known and loved so much. That man standing there is your mate. The reason why you were in the hospital is because we were at war with rogues. Wait, let me back up for just a second. You had another mate who beat you so badly that you were put in the hospital. He was put in jail. When you recovered, everything started going well for you. Jasper found you as his mate, and you moved here with us. But the kingdom needed our help, so we went there to assist them. That was the war. Everything was going well, we won the war, but something happened. Your ex-mate broke out of the cells, and you and Jasper had a plan. If he hurt you, he would give you his blood to heal you. Well, he called for you. You went to him, but he grabbed you. The next thing we knew, you stabbed yourself, but it went through to his heart, the knife exploded, killing your ex. Then you blacked out. You’ve been in the hospital for three years. We tried many things to wake you up, but nothing helped. The reason why you woke up without anyone in the room was that I was there, Laura, but I stepped out to help a mother and her child. My brother was at a meeting two hours away. He didn’t want to go, but I made him. He needed to get out of here for a while. He’s been by your side non-stop, Laura. We don't know why, but you are the Laura that's in those photos on his desk,” she finished talking and stood back from me.
For some reason, I knew she was telling the truth. But what was I going to do with this information? Was this really a trick? Were they doing magic on me? I needed to be careful around these people to make sure that I was safe. I knew this girl was telling the truth, but about the rest of them, I wasn't so sure.
