Chapter 48

Conner's POV

I've talked to my mate Olive about Jasper all the time. I knew that his mate was in a coma. I didn't know why, but I felt sorry for him. Once I knew she was finally awake, I wanted Olive to meet her. Maybe then she will have a friend and be off my case about going places with my friends. I knew that once we settled down, we took our mates everywhere. But damn, a man needs a break. When we got there, we went into the lobby. I was getting a room when a woman came up to us. I didn’t notice her at first, but then she spoke to us.

"Hi, I'm Laura. I'm the owner of the hotel. I hope you find things to your liking," Turning around, I looked at her, and then I looked her up and down. What right did she have to speak to me? Just because she's the owner doesn't give her the right to speak to me. Besides, she's probably lying to me just to get my attention. Turning back around, I asked, "Can you tell me where to find Alpha Jasper? I heard that his mate had woken up, so I came a long way to see him. Is there any way you can get a hold of him? I lost his damn number many years ago, and I haven't talked to him in such a long time. And since he's not my alpha, I'm unable to mindlink him. Our alpha is strict; he has gotten onto me several times for going out without my mate. I've been putting wolfbane in her drink so she won't be able to tell I've been unfaithful. She's been getting sick lately, so I've stopped doing that. I hope it's not the wolfbane that's been causing that." When she told me that the woman, Laura, was Jasper's mate, I turned white as a ghost. s**t, I just disrespected her. I am so f****d. I told her how sorry I was. Bowing my head toward her, I was hoping she wouldn't tell my cousin. But well, it was too late. He came into the lobby scolding me like I was a damn child. I had to act the part, or he would throw me out of his territory.

"I'm sorry, Jasper. I didn't come here to cause trouble. I came here to visit for a few days. My mate has been sick lately. I came here because I knew you had a good doctor, and he could find out what was wrong with her."

“Dear, I am fine. It's just a small cold; I will be just fine. It will pass. Luna Laura, it's so very nice to meet you. Conner has talked about Jasper nonstop. It's like I've known him all my life. I'm happy I finally got to meet you, Alpha Jasper, and Luna Laura. I didn't like it when she was talking. She doesn't know when to stop once she starts talking. She says things he should never stop, so I always have to tell her to hush or pinch her side so she knows to stay quiet. No one has to know what I do. It's not like I hit her or something because I never raised my hand at her. I was so into my thoughts that I didn't hear Jasper talking.

“Conner, didn't you hear me? I asked how long you were staying?”

‘Oh, I'm sorry. We are staying for a week, and then we are heading back to the pack. I thought that Olive could meet your mate and gain a friend, not to mention seeing a doctor for her illness. I'm sorry, dear, but you need to be checked out. You've been sick for weeks, and our doctor can’t find anything, so maybe my cousins can. The reason why he couldn't find anything is because I've paid him not to say anything was wrong. I need to do that with this one as well.

“Well, you can come to our pack so the doctor can check her out. Shall we go, Laura? Are you coming with us, or will you be home later?” She sighed. It looked like she had other plans but decided to go with us.

‘Yeah, I'm coming, Lucy. I will be back tomorrow to check on things in the hall. It can wait until tomorrow unless you want to go check on things and get back to me about it.”

"Yeah, I will do that when I get home. I will have a list for you.” After that, we headed to Jasper's pack.

Olive POV

I don't know why we are here. He talks about his cousin all the time; it's like he doesn't want to be there anymore because Alpha Niro is strict. This is the first time he took me somewhere in a long time; I was tired of sitting at home by myself. I was sick of it, and that's what I told him. I haven't been feeling good lately; it starts right after Conner gives me something to drink or eat. It's weird. When I tell him I'm not feeling well, he tells me to go to bed and says he'll be home shortly, but he never gets home early. It's always around two to three in the morning. I've talked to the Alpha about it, and he has spoken to Conner. I've about had it. If he doesn't change, I will have no choice but to reject him. I deserve better than this. I thought I would be happy with him; I was at first, but after a few years of this, I was fed up. We finally made it to Jasper's pack. We got out of the car.

“Why don't I take you to the pack doctors now so they can check you over? That way, you can relax the rest of the time that you're here.”

“Sure, let's do that now.”

“I will go with you, honey. I would like to meet the doctor who will be checking you over.” He always does that; he takes the doctor to the side, talks for a bit, and then comes back into my room. Then suddenly, there's nothing wrong with me when I know there is. Might as well get this over and done with.
