Chapter 4

Travis's POV

Three years later….

‘Mate'

A voice said in my head. Even though it was just a faint whisper I clearly heard it.

My feet froze in my place and my green orbs looked around frantically.

I can’t scent anything nor I can see anyone around me but still a nagging feeling in my heart is telling me that she is here.

And she is in danger.

Without thinking anything else my feet began heading in the direction of the pack I just escaped from. It is as if I have no control over my body anymore.

I could only take two three steps when a sharp pain shot through my chest and spread in my each vein. My knees buckled and I fell on the floor clutching the fabric of my shirt where my heart is beating loudly.

‘what’s happening to me?’ the question came to mind. But before I could ponder over it, a wave of pain hit my head hard making me groan in pain. I held my head with my both hands.

Breathing became difficult for me and I felt like this unbearable pain will kill me.

A scream escaped from my lips when another wave of pain hit me but this time along with pain I felt a burning sensation gripping my heart.

Tears well up in my eyes as I was groaning in pain and agony,

“Travis”

I heard my name being called from distance but I am surrounded by darkness.

“Travis”

I couldn’t see anyone but the pain in my heart increased more.

“Wake up, Travis”

My eyes fluttered open as I felt cold water on my face. My eyes met with white ceiling while I took deep breaths.

“Are you okay Travis”

My eyes averted from the ceiling to the man sitting beside me on the bed.

The moment my gaze locked with Kayden I realized that it was just a nightmare.

I am still in my room.

I am sweating badly and my heart is pounding in my ribcage. Warm tears are rolling down from my eyes. I raised my hand to wipe my face.

“You okay buddy?” he asked again when I didn’t say anything. I can see worry written all over his face while he stared at me with his brown orbs.

I took a deep breath and nodded my head. I sat up and took the glass of water Kayden offered me and drank half of the content.

“Same nightmare?” he asked and I nodded my head.

“Was I screaming?” I asked and closed my eyes in annoyance when he nodded his head.

“Want to talk about it?” Kayden asked me and I shook my head in no.

“okay, get ready, I will make the breakfast” he said and left my room.

I rested my back on the headboard and sighed in frustration.

Three years.

It has been f**king three years since that day, the day I left my pack but still I can’t forget that night. The memory of that night repeats like a movie in the form of nightmare every time I sleep.

I wouldn’t mind if it was just a nightmare but every time I wake up, I feel the pain in my heart.

Not as strong as that night, a slight ache in my heart. And the thing that is making me insane is that I have no idea why I am feeling this pain.

On that night, I really thought that I would die but after some time the pain disappeared. I searched everywhere but I couldn’t see anyone.

And then I began assuming that I heard it wrong.

There is no way that I heard a word 'Mate' in my head when I don’t even have a wolf.

It is impossible but still I feel like she was there. But if she was, I would have seen her.

Once again my mind is filled with many thoughts and I felt like it will burst because of the ache I was feeling.

I decided to forget about everything and take a shower and get ready for the day.

“How are you feeling now” Kayden asked me once I came out of my room after taking a cold shower and getting ready.

“Fine” I replied while sitting on the small dining table. He placed a plate of pancakes and a cup of coffee in front of me and sat down on the chair across from me with his own breakfast.

We ate in silence.

I am glad Kayden didn’t ask me anything about the nightmare. That is what I like about him the most. He never pushes me to tell him anything I don’t want to share.

Sometimes I wonder how can he resist himself from questioning me when he sees me groaning and screaming in sleep almost everyday since last two years.

Even though I can see many questions swirling in his brown orbs I never felt uncomfortable around him.

He reminds me of Aron and I am really grateful that I met him.

“Travis” I came out of my thoughts with his voice.

“Yes?” I asked, taking a sip from my coffee.

“Selena called me in morning” he said. Selena is his younger sister and his only family.

He loves her a lot or I can even say he loves her more than anything in this world. I met her many times in these two years and I have developed an attachment for the girl.

She is really bubbly who can make you smile just with her sweet presence. I feel like I have found a sister in her form.

“How is she? What did she say?” I asked him.

“She is fine, in fact more than fine. She is on cloud nine as she found her mate” he said.

A big smile spread upon my face as I heard his words.

“Really? Who is he?” I asked him while putting the cup of my coffee on the table. I can imagine her dancing and jumping around in happiness. Kayden had told me that she was dying to meet her mate ever since she turned eighteen.

“Yes, he is an Alpha of some pack, I don’t remember his name or pack name. She just met him yesterday and today she has to leave with her mate. I am going to my pack to meet her before she leaves. Do you want to come with me?” he asked.

My body stiffened upon hearing his words.

Kayden is a werewolf. He is from a very small pack. To tell you the truth I had never heard of his pack's name before I met him. I was very surprised when he told me that his pack is very close to my pack's territory.

If you are thinking that he is living in the human world as rogue than let me tell you he is not.

He left his pack after taking permission from his Alpha as he didn’t want to work as slave or work as warrior, though he is good in fighting. That is why he opened his own small restaurant two blocks away from our apartment and now I work there with him.

He knows that I am also a werewolf who doesn’t have a wolf. I told him that my pack members used to bully me because I don’t have a wolf that is why I left my pack.

I never told him that I am from Dark Moon Pack and my father is none other than the cruel Alpha Zander.

“Travis” he called my name when I didn’t answer him for a long time.

“I don’t want to. Tell her I am happy for her” I said. He nodded his head in understanding and gave me an small smile while muttering, “I will”.

As much as I would like to go and meet his sister I don’t want to go anywhere near Dark Moon Pack.

Even the thought makes me feel uneasy.

“When are you going?” I asked him.

“I am leaving right after breakfast. I might stay there for a day or two, take care of restaurant for me” he said.

“I will, don’t worry about it” I replied. After half an hour he was gone and I made my way to restaurant to do some work and shake off this weird feeling I am having in my heart, which is telling me something is about to happen.

Something very bad.

….

A week later…

“Why don’t you just leave me alone Suzy” I said to the girl who is bothering me since last month. She is a human and a regular in this restaurant.

“But…” she began saying when I cut her off, “Get out, I need to close the door”.

She obeyed and left the restaurant. I sighed while turning off the lights before going out as well.

A frown appeared on my face and annoyance filled my insides when I saw Suzy standing outside waiting for me.

I ignored her and locked the door and began walking in the direction of home when she blocked my way.

“why don’t you understand I don’t like you” I told her the same thing again.

Hurt flashed in her orbs and I cursed myself mentally for using such a harsh tone. She is not a bad person I know that. She is just stubborn and a bit childish.

“Why don’t you like me? It is not like you have someone you love. I know you are single then what is the problem. At least give me a chance or a reason to reject me” she said.

“You want to know why I don’t like you?” I asked and she nodded her head hesitantly.

“Because I don’t like people with blue eyes” I said and she looked at me with an open mouth in disbelief. I pushed her gently out of my way and began heading towards my home.

I know what I said might seem childish to anyone but this is the truth.

Her blue orbs remind me of my dad.

And I don’t think I can ever fall for someone who is a constant reminder of my father and my past I so badly want to forget.

It is not her fault I know. That is why I always try to treat her nicely but I just can’t like her. Moreover I can’t tell her that I am a werewolf and am waiting for my mate. It is best for her that she forgets about me and finds a nice human.

It is night time and cold breeze is soothing my mind.

I pulled my phone out of my jeans pocket and dialed Kayden's no. It’s been a whole one week he left for his pack. He said he will be back in two days but he hasn’t yet.

I sighed when the call went to voicemail. Ever since he left I didn’t talk with him. It is worrying me a bit because he has never done that. Whenever he went to his pack in past, he would call me but this time I can’t reach him at all.

I just hope he is safe.

After five minutes of walking, my phone began ringing. I hoped it is Kayden but it is not. It is an unknown number.

I answered and my feet halted in my tracks when I heard a voice laced with fear.

“Help me Travis”.

“Selena?” I asked to confirm it is her.

“Yes, please help me” she whispered again. It is as if she is talking in hushed tone so that no one can hear her. Fear crawled in my each vein upon hearing her words.

“What happened Selena, tell me?” I asked her. My voice is laced with panic thinking that she might be in danger.

“My mate has locked Kayden in the dungeon. Can you please tell our Alpha to save him. I don’t have anyone’s no. I am calling from my mate's phone. I just remembered your number that is why I called you. Just go to our pack and tell Alpha Gabriel to save Kayden, please” she said.

I can tell by the way her voice cracked in the end that she is crying right now. My grip on my phone tightened. My insides began burning in anger.

“Why did they put him in dungeon?” I asked. It is necessary for her Alpha to know why he is locked if he wants to help Kayden.

A painful sob fell on my ear as she said from the other side, “because… I refused… to become… my mate’s… wh..whore” she replied.

“What?” I asked in disbelief.

Why would her mate want her to become his w***e?

“Why…” I couldn’t complete my sentence when she cut me off in the middle and said,

“I don’t have much time. My mate will be here soon. I have to go but please tell Alpha Gabriel before he kills Kayden”.

My heart clenched when she uttered the words, 'kill Kayden'.

Suddenly Samantha's face flashed in front of me which increased my fear even more.

I can’t let anything happen to Kayden. He is my only family and I care a lot about him.

“Where are you?” I asked her with determination. If their Alpha refused to help than I will go there and bring them back. Even if it means to enter in that pack as rogue, I will do that.

But all my determination crumbled into pieces and new fear settled inside me. My heart squeezed painfully. My knees buckled and I fell on the ground when I heard the name of the pack before the call was disconnected.

“I am in the Dark Moon Pack”
