The Wolfless Alpha

Chapter 7

Travis’s POV

The Alphas from other packs came to the pack house around two. I came to know that they were the Alphas from near by packs and most of them had alliance with Dark Moon Pack.

They came to show their condolence on Aiden’s death.

Yeah Aiden died on the same night when Selena had called me.

He was attacked by someone. The investigation is still going on but no one knows who did it.

And Aiden's death is the reason why Alpha Zander asked me to, no not asked but threatened me to become the next Alpha of his pack.

My mind replayed the conversation I had with Alpha Zander at my place, yesterday.

I can’t believe he threatened me, his own son using my friends just because he doesn’t want anyone else taking over our pack.

He even said that I should get married and have an heir so that I can make my heir, who will be stronger than me and have a wolf, Alpha of the pack.

His humiliating words pierced my insides. I knew he was a cold hearted man but never thought he could be this heartless.

The main purpose of the meeting was to introduce me to the Alphas with whom our pack have alliance.

I can’t even describe the look they gave me the moment Alpha Zander announced that I am the next Alpha of pack.

One of them even laughed thinking that he is joking. But seeing the seriousness on my father’s face, he stopped.

And when they realized that father is telling the truth, they stared at me as if I have grown two heads.

Well I can’t blame them though.

They don’t get to see an Alpha without a wolf frequently.

Or I am sure that I am the first Wolfless Alpha in the history of werewolves.

Through out the meeting they were glancing in my direction again and again which made me very uncomfortable.

But the burning gaze of Amanda was bothering me the most. If look could kill, I would be buried under six feet by now.

But all uncomfortable feelings flew away when father announced something which I wasn’t expecting at all,

‘The Alpha Ceremony is going to be held tomorrow. And Travis will take over all the pack matters officially'

This is what he said.

He never told me that I have to become the Alpha right away. I thought I will have at least a week’s time to prepare myself to run away.

But Alas, now I will be bound with this pack forever.

I have to do something.

I have only a day, I will have to work on my plan today itself.

Yeah, I have no intention of becoming the Alpha.

That is why I have decided that I will act as if I accept all of his conditions and whenever right time comes I will leave with my friends.

I came out of my thoughts when someone called my name from beside me,

“Alpha Travis”

“Huh?” I whispered looking at the man who called me. He is Alpha Christopher from Shadow pack.

“Aren’t you joining us for lunch?” he asked me with a small smile.

His tone was laced with respect.

We talked a bit in between the meeting. He seems like a nice person to me.

I looked around to find the meeting has ended and everyone is going downstairs to have lunch.

“Yes, I am coming. Let’s go” I said.

He nodded and we got on our feet and headed out of my father’s office.

We reached near dinning room. Christopher was telling me about his pack when I realized that I left my phone in the office.

“Uhm. Alpha Chris, I forgot my phone in Alpha Zander’s office. I will be back soon” I said.

He nodded his head and I turned on my heels to go back.

I was right outside the door when I heard father’s voice saying something to his Beta.

“Who do you think is behind the attack?”

The door was slightly ajar that is why I could hear them.

My heart began racing. My mind screamed at me to leave but I didn’t.

I know eavesdropping on him will result in punishment but I wanted to know what they are talking about.

“I have no idea, they were all acting normally. Are you sure one of them is behind those attacks?” Beta Jorden asked.

‘which attacks they are talking about? Is it the one on Aiden?’ I wondered.

“I am sure of it, it is someone among them. We need to find who wants the Alpha of my pack dead?” father said.

“I am investigating all the Alphas present here today. But I don’t have any evidence against them” Jorden said.

Someone wants the Alpha of this pack dead.

And still my father wants me to take over the pack, knowing too well that I don’t even have a wolf.

I will definitely die.

My heart clenched painfully in my ribcage. Not wanting to get hurt more by his words, I decided to knock on the door to make my presence known.

But my raised hand stopped in the middle and my mind became blank at his next question,

“How is Aiden?”.

“still unconscious, but he is out of danger” Jorden replied.

My breathing got stuck in the back of my throat at his next words,

“Make sure no one finds out about him. After all he is the Alpha of pack. His safety comes first” he commanded.

I felt betrayed.

I couldn’t think properly. My legs began shaking. Anger surged inside me and pain crawled in my each vein.

When the realization hit me hard,

He is just using me to find the one behind Aiden’s attack. And in the process it doesn’t matter to him that I can die as well.

He faked Aiden’s death just to protect him.

“You know we are putting Travis’s life in danger. He doesn’t even have a wolf. How will he protect himself?” Jorden asked Zander.

I waited with a heavy heart to hear his answer. Everything inside me crumbled into pieces when Alpha Zander chuckled lightly before uttering the words which shattered my heart, mercilessly.

“Let him die then”.
