Chapter Seven

1100 Words
“When we arrive, I need you to stay in the car!” I said as we pulled into the familiar neighborhood. “What?” Jade asked. “I haven’t been home in a long time! I’ll go in first to greet my parents then I’ll come and get you!” I explained. “You have to realize that my dad is probably the most innocent in this entire situation plus we have a terrible relationship with one another.” “Fine.” Jade replied as we pulled into my driveway. I parked my car in the driveway of the large white mansion before sighing heavily. Everything still looked the exact same. I turned the car off as the front door opened and my mother stepped out with a huge smile on her face. “Let’s do this.” I whispered to myself. Jade reached over and placed her cold hand on mine before giving it right a squeeze. Looking over at her, she gave me a soft smile. I opened the car door and stepped out as I made my way to the entrance. “You’re home!” My mom exclaimed as she pulled me into a tight hug. “Hey mom.” I greeted. I pulled away as I took in her appearance. Her blonde hair was put into a ponytail as she wore a white brown turtleneck with jeans. She smiled brightly which made the wrinkles around her eyes extremely visible. She was happy. “Where’s dad?” I asked. “Son.” I heard a voice say. I looked behind my mom to see the devil himself. He didn’t look any different. He dressed casually in a pair of his khakis with a white dress shirt. His black hair was now decorated with a few grey hairs and his brown glasses sat on the bridge of his nose. “Dad.” I replied. “Why are you here?” He asked. “I cannot come home?” “You haven’t bothered to show up many other times so why now?” “Enough!” My mom exclaimed. “Our boy is home, Henry! Let it go!” Without saying another word, I watched as my father walked out of the doorway and disappeared into the house. My mom gave my hand a soft squeeze. “Let’s get you something to eat!” “I have my girlfriend with me.” Her eyes widened. “Girlfriend? My Goodness, where is she?” “She’s in the car! Why don’t you go inside and I’ll bring her in.” I said. “Alright.” She replied as she smiled brightly and walked into the home. Turning around, I quickly walked down towards the car and opened the door on the passengers side. Jade looked at me as I looked up to make sure my mom has followed my directions. Opening the glove compartment, I pulled out of a tape recorder before pressing the record button. “Place this in your pocket! It is recording! You need to get her to confess what she’s done.” I mumbled. “Are you sure that you’re okay doing this?” Jade asked. “You’re turning your mother in!” I nodded. “She’s my mother and I love her but I cannot allow her to shoot and kill people anymore! I also promised you that I would help and I’m keeping that promise.” Jade nodded her head. Taking my hand, she stepped out of the car as I closed it shut behind her. It seemed that everything was going in slow motion. We didn’t say a word to one another as we walked up the stairs and into the home. Jade looked around as she smiled softly at the pictures on the walls of me as a kid. I closed the door softly behind us. “We’re in the family room!” My mom called out. Looking down at Jade, I spoke. “Are you ready?” “Yes.” She whispered. “Are you ready?” “I guess so.” I mumbled. Without saying another word, Jade and I walked hand in hand towards the area my parents sat in. Entering the room, I watched as my dad stood up and my mom’s smile dropped as she laid eyes on Jade. “Hello.” My dad greeted as he held his hand out towards Jade. “I’m Harold’s father, Henry!” Jade looked down at his hand before slowly placing her hand into his. “I’m Diana Richardson!” “You’re freezing!” My dad said as he looked down at Jade’s hands. “Should we move closer to the fireplace?” “She’s fine!” I said as removed her hand from his. Leading us towards my mother who stood in the same spot in shock, I gave her a fake smile. “Are you alright, mother?” I asked. “Yes.” “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” I teased with a laugh. Jade giggled. “Stop it, Harry! You know ghosts aren’t real!” “Ghosts are real, soulmates aren’t!” I said with a fake laugh. Jade smiled. “Shall I call my friend from back home?” “Who?” “I forgot his name.” Jade lied. “You know the strong one whose going to pick me up from that place.” “That won’t be—” “The overprotective one!” Jade said referring to The Grim Reaper. “That won’t be necessary, baby.” I said as I gave her a soft kiss on the cheek. Turning towards my mom, Jade held her hand out. “Hello Ma’am! I’m Diana Richardson!” “Diana Richardson.” My mom replied as she looked down at Jade’s hand. “Pleasure to meet your acquaintance.” Jade said as she still held her hand out. Slowly, I watched as my mom took Jade’s hand in hers. She gasped as she felt the coldness of Jade’s hand as Jade smirked at her. Quickly, she pulled away and stormed out of the room. Jade looked up at me with a fake sad expression on her face. “Did I do something wrong?” “I have no idea what’s wrong with her.” My father spoke up. “I apologize for her behavior, Diana. She sometimes acts like a child like Harry over there. Why don’t you both go sit in the dining room while I go get her!” I watched as he walked out of the room leaving Jade and I. Jade smirked as she looked up at me. I shook my head. “Did you see her reaction to me?” Jade asked. “Oh yes.” I mumbled. “I was hoping it was true but she most definitely did it!” “Ready to a end to this this so I can Rest In Peace?” Jade asked. Looking around the room one last time, I looked down at Jade who stood there watching me with a soft smile on her face. Grabbing her hand, I said the one word that I knew she looked forward to hearing. “Yes!”
