Chapter 15: Finally Free

Aidan/Ares

We came together to have a meal before I had to get my mate's rejection from her ex-mate; I knew he was not happy, and maybe just a bit crazy. Kyan was going to join us to see the look on Roman's face as he slowly lost everything; after finding out Lexi's secret, he wanted Roman to pay more than anything. Kyan was prepared to be king so that he could help his sister, and I was so proud of him, but I could step in and make it easier for him. The only problem is, everyone will know I was back, and I wasn't ready for everyone to know. Michelle kissed my lips, and Lily held my hand; Ty was ready, and so was Drax as we headed down to our cars to meet with the council. Lily looked at me and said, "I love you, thank you for supporting me with this," and I kissed the back of her hand, letting her know I will always have her back.

We drove up to the council building, where most of my allies are, and made sure Roman would be there today to accept the rejection so I could finally mark Lily. In the human world, divorce papers had been filed but were unnecessary; Roman was already waiting. We could hear his voice yelling at the elders to stop this madness; they should be bowing to him as if he were King. As we walked inside hand in hand, to piss him off, he turned and looked at me with such rage and hatred. He said, "I trusted you, Ares, and you stole my mate? I will have your head for this, both of you." I said, "You will not threaten my mate," and everyone gasped; they were now finding out for the first time. Amon smiled as he already knew and asked, "How could this be? Is this true, Your Majesty?"

Looking at Lily as she told them, "Ares is my second chance mate, and I want to be with him, not a chosen mate anymore; King Roman abused me, and you all covered it up." The council granted the request but also revealed a law that had been on the books for centuries; once the Queen leaves her King, he will step down. Roman growled in anger and yelled, "NEVER!" They told him his son would be crowned king at the next full moon, and he said, "I will fight my son for the title," and challenged Kyan, who smiled and said, "I accept." The match would be on the day before the full moon, so he has less than two weeks to prepare. Roman and Lily perform the ritual, both rejecting each other as he tells her, "I hate you, and I will kill you when I get the chance, you bitch." He looks at me and says, "I will end you," before I grab his neck and show my fangs, hissing at him.

I was holding back my urge to end him right there; the elders and his guards yelled, "Stop!" Some even pointed their guns at me until they saw that Ty was in full hybrid mode to kill them; if they made that mistake, they backed off, sensing his aura. I said, "I will be ready," before showing my true face and saying, "You were never a match for me, Rosie." He froze in fear and said, "No," blinked his eyes until he saw Ares' face again, and I smiled, saying, "You are a dead man." Roman held Esmerelda's hand and ran out of there like his pants were on fire, and we laughed. I turned to Lily, who had her hand over her baby bump as water settled in her eyes, and I said, "Hey, it's over, you don't have to worry about him," when Kyan walked over to us and hugged his mom and said, "I got this, Mom, I promised you."

Kyan

I reached home, waiting for Lexi; I mind-linked her about everything that was happening, and she was worried about Roman and his retaliation. Fallon walked into the room and smiled; we fist bumped each other, and he handed me a beer and said, "Your majesty, congratulations." I smiled and said, "I haven't been crowned yet," as Max and Jett walked in, bowed happily, and Jett said, "You will be," before the four of us started laughing at Roman. Fallon had his reason for not liking Roman, and I assumed Max felt the same way since they are cousins. Jett was the only person who didn't have issues with Roman, as he was raised mostly in the human territory before returning home to Ravena. When he got here, things were a mess with Roman and the Valmores, or should I say, my real family.

Dad took Mom on a getaway for a few hours to unwind; Michelle also went with them, and I couldn't believe they were making it work, and I was happy with the outcome. Tommen knocked on the door and said, "Hey, kid, your dad wants me to train you so you'll kick Roman's ass; he will try to win anyway necessary, including trying to kill you." It hurt hearing that he would try to kill me, but my former stepfather was desperate to keep power; I got a call and answered the phone, and Roman wanted to meet. I could hear the desperation in his voice, so I told him, "Tomorrow night at the club." He hung up, and I set a schedule with Tommen to begin training; everyone had left, so I could talk to my beautiful mate, Lexi, on the phone. It was late afternoon, and my mom messaged that she was back and we would talk tomorrow.

I was happy for her when a light appeared in the corner of the room, and I saw my mate enter the room, where she calmed the beast within. We made love that night before she went back to Volterra, spending time with her family, and I was content with my mate and soon, the Queen of Darmonth. The next day, I was anticipating meeting Roman; Aidan wants me to be careful around him, but he wouldn't try anything in my club; all my workers and most of my pack hated him anyway. That night, he walked into the club and was escorted to the VIP; he tried alpha commanding me again, but this time, I felt nothing. Technically, I had more rank than him; the power of the king was slowly transferring to me, but it would be official once I beat his ass. His threats were no longer affecting me, and he knew it; the fear on his face let me know he was going to fight dirty. As I watch him leave, Aidan appears and says, "I will be training you because I know his every move."

Roman

It had been weeks since Lily left me and refused to answer my mind-link or calls, my wolf even tried to reach out to her wolf, but she blocked us. I was furious with my son when I found out he had taken her to Ares' pack instead of his place, saying his mother asked him to, as she has friends there. I knew all of her friends, and none lived with Ares, but he had assured me she was staying with Issy and her mate. Issy even confirmed her mother needed space and would be back when she was ready; I have been having nightmares, suddenly after she left, about betraying and killing my childhood friends. I admit I haven't thought about them in years, and I felt guilty knowing they were probably waiting to skin me in the afterlife, but I will handle it then. I had been bleeding money, and a lot of land had been purchased from under me; I wanted Lubartown for my rogues to be closer, but King Barron bought it.

I needed to get things back under control; I will try my best to bury the hatchet with Sophia and Kyan so I can get Lily back. The elders finally had enough votes to overturn the intermixing law, and many people in Ravena were happy; a lot more species were mated than I originally thought. My bastard son was mated to an elf, which made their treaty a lot stronger, and Polly was betrothed to Levi; Emile was probably laughing at me. King Barron is getting married in a few months, and I wasn't invited to this one, but I didn't care; my focus was getting my wife back home with my pup. I was losing my mind, I was going into mate withdrawal, and I summoned Esmerelda to be in the Palace and find a way to get my Lily back. She wasn't happy about that, but I wanted Lily, and hearing how happy she was with that man, whom I wanted dead, was driving me insane.

Seeing Ty back at the restaurant when I confronted Lily scared me to the core, so I wanted to go to their tomb and ask for forgiveness, but Addy hid the location from everyone years ago. She double-crossed us, too, and I was losing everything; Issy was failing me because she would choose Sky Valmore over her father. I wanted the Valmores dead, and I wouldn't stop until I found a way; I knew I messed up with challenging Kyan for the crown. I loved that pup; he is my firstborn heir, and I decided to meet him at his club tonight to talk things over. I wanted to convince him to give me back the throne to avoid the challenge because nothing will stop me from getting it back, even if I have to kill him. I got into my car, and I screamed because Ares, that son-of-a-b***h was ruining everything I had worked for, and it was time he died.

Later, we were at the club, and I saw his Beta Fallon, who nodded for me to come up to VIP; I had seen his Delta, Jett, who seemed familiar to me. He handed me a glass of his fine scotch, and I went upstairs to meet with my son; I saw Kyan looking over the balcony at the people on the dance floor, and his men left us to talk in private. He smiled and said, "I know that you are upset at how things have played out, but you are mated to Esmeralda now; why do you keep coming after Mom?" I looked at him and said, "She is my queen and my first love; I don't want Esmeralda, I want Lily, now please back out and give me the throne back so I can make things right with her." He smiled and said, "Mom is over you; she has mated Ares and is planning a wedding after her baby is born, and I won't back down, so bring it on, Dad." I growled, letting out my aura so he would submit, and he looked at me, eyes changing color unfazed, and said, "That won't work on me, Dartmonth has a new king, and it's not you," before walking out. I was shocked that he was stronger; I was losing my son, and that can't happen, because I would kill him first and bring Lily back to me.
