Chapter 7

It was another day where the investigation with the cases in Montes was proceeding. Jack and Martinez were discussing some issues in the office.

“I can’t believe the judge is delaying to give us the search warrant, do you think he works for Martin?” Martinez asked.

“I am not so sure but most of the political leaders and other leaders in Montes are Martin’s companions, well in exception of the late senator.” Jack said.

“Yeah and that is why he wanted him dead.” Martinez said. “We are going to give the judge just few days and if he still delays we got to do something about it.” He added.

“Yeah sure. I wonder what Martin is planning to do next after his total silence.” Jack said.

“He surely has a plan that we don’t know about but, one thing for sure just be careful detective Jack.” Martinez said.

“You too detective.” Jack said.

“I am left with few months in Montes and I don’t want to leave any unfinished business.” Martinez said.

In the afternoon when Jack was having lunch with detective Martinez, Diana approached them kind of furiously. They saw her and then looked at each other.

“Diana,” Jack called, “what are you doing here?” he asked calmly.

“I want to get updates of my dad’s murder case.” Diana said. Jack and Martinez looked at each other in surprise.

“Excuse me miss Diana we are not in the office and besides the investigation is going on but we can’t tell you everything. It is our job miss I think you should leave that to us and if there is anything we need to inform you about you will surely get the information.” Martinez calmly explained.

“It's been long enough!" Diana complained.

“Cases are investigated even for years until justice is served.” Jack said to her.

“In a town like Montes? Jack are you really doing your job?” Diana began scolding, “Or are you probably busy with something else?” she asked kind of angrily.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Martinez was wondering but Jack already guessed why Diana was behaving that way.

“I think mom was right, I wonder what we would have done without detective Martinez in this case.” Diana said.

Jack chuckled and asked, “You met mom or Tracy today right?” 

“How is that supposed to be related with what we are talking about here?” Diana asked.

“I knew this was a personal matter, it has nothing to do with your father’s case.” Jack said.

“Excuse me.” Martinez wanted to leave.

“No need detective. We are leaving together.” Jack said.

“If you think am here because I might be jealous of that woman you are…” Diana tried to defend herself.

“Yes Diana I will hang out with any woman I want and please don’t try getting my job in my personal life. If you want any information on the case, next time please come in the office and actually there is no need because if there is any information we want you to know, we will surely let you know. If you would excuse us miss Diana.” Jack explained and walked out with detective Martinez. Diana was left speechless and mad. She later on went to Jack’s mom crying in their house. Emilia embraced her.

“Mom please tell Jack to come back to me.” Diana cried. 

“Calm down Diana, all will be well.” Emilia consoled her.

At around 8 pm, Jack went to the Bar to meet Primrose because she was already there. When he saw her, he smiled at her and winked at her. Primrose smiled back and blushed. They went outside the bar, in the garden. He hugged her first.

“How is my beautiful girl doing?” Jack asked.

“Great.” She said with a smile on her face as she looked at him in the eyes. “I still can’t believe you got over your pride and now you are open with your feelings.” She said happily.

“You should thank the rain.” He said and they laughed.

“Hey but you haven’t asked me to be your girl yet.” Primrose said. He just looked at her and smiled. He kissed her forehead.

“What…” she wanted to hear something from him.

“Do you have a plan of running away from Montes or why are you in a hurry?” Jack asked.

She chuckled and said, “am serious Jack, I love you.” He lifted her chin and looked at her throughout her face. His phone suddenly rang and he picked it up.

“Hello.” Jack said.

“Jack I love you.” It was Diana (she sadly spoke) but Primrose didn’t hear a thing, Jack looked at Primrose and replied, “Okay” He then hung up.

“Goodnight baby girl we will talk, okay?” Jack kissed her cheek.

“Alright, goodnight.” Primrose said and Jack walked towards his car. He went back home and when he went to bed, he had a lot of thoughts. He thought of Primrose and felt butterflies in his stomach and when he thought of Diana he felt a slight heartache. Primrose thought of him too, “I am falling in love.” She sadly dropped out a tear. “I don’t know what to do.” She added.

“I know he loves me but why can’t he just accept me back.” Diana wondered.

In the morning before he left for work his mom was waiting for him in the sitting room.

“Jack,” Emilia called.

“What now mom?” Jack asked.

“Jack what can we do to make you go back to Diana?” Emilia sadly asked.

“Mom what on earth is wrong with you? Is that how much you pity her?” Jack asked in disbelief. “Or is there anything else you want to get from this?” he asked.

“Jack she is suffering.” Emilia’s eyes were brightened with tears.

“Mom stop, don’t give me that look.” Jack said and turned away from her. Emilia slowly knelt down, “Jack,” she sadly called.

“Mom,” he called as he turned and was so surprised to see his mom kneeling. “Stop this.” He got her up. 

“Mom what are you trying to do?” he asked in disbelief. Suddenly Tracy came running.

“Mom!” She cried nervously.

“Tracy what is wrong?” Emilia asked as she held her hands.

“What is going on?” Jack asked.

“Diana is in the hospital! She tried to commit suicide.” Tracy said anxiously.

“What?!” Emilia and Jack wondered in unison.

“Her best friend just called to inform me that, she needs you Jack.” Tracy explained. Jack was left speechless and surprised, he then quickly drove to the hospital with Emilia and Tracy. When Rose saw them, she ran to Jack.

“Jack,” she called. “Please you need to speak to her, I beg you.” She pleaded.

“Can I see her now?” Jack asked.

“Yes she doesn’t want to see anyone else.” Rose said. Jack walked into the room that Diana was.  

“Jack my love.” Diana called. Jack walked towards her and hugged her. He then looked at her and asked, “what have you done? Why would you do that to yourself Diana?” he calmly spoke to her. Diana’s eyes dropped some tears and she said, “Jack, I really love you. I really do love you so very much.” She cried and got closer to him and kissed him and he didn’t stop her.

“Tell me that you still love me please.” She pleaded as she touched his face.

“Diana you know I do.” He replied. “It is just…” he wanted to say something but she interrupted him with a kiss.

“I don’t want to hear anything else.” Diana said.

He went to work that day with so much confusion in his mind. He never felt that confused before. He did his job quite well and in the evening he went back home while Primrose was expecting him at night in the bar. She called him but he didn’t pick up the call but when Diana called he picked up. Primrose then called and the number was busy.

“Jack thank you for coming to see me in the hospital. Thank you for your love too.” Diana said.

“Okay, can we talk tomorrow please, I am very exhausted.” He replied.

“Alright goodnight. I love you.” Diana said.

“Goodnight.” Jack said and hung up.

“What? He didn’t say that he loves me.” Diana said and Rose heard her. They were already at home in Diana’s room.

“Diana please don’t stress yourself out, the doctor said you are really depressed and that is why you get suicide thoughts. I am not leaving this room tonight; we will sleep together.” Rose said. She looked at Diana as her eyes were brightened with tears. “Do you know how I felt when I saw you lying on the floor with those peels beside you?” Rose asked.

“Oh sis…you don’t know me very well do you?” Diana touched Rose’s face.

“What does that suppose to mean?” Rose asked.

“I am not confused. I will never try to kill myself, never.” She said, “The amounts of peels I took, I was so sure they would not kill me.”  she confessed.

“What? Then you were trying to forcefully get Jack back to you?” Rose wondered.

“Exactly. I had no choice and if it doesn’t work, I will do any other thing.” Diana assured Rose.

“Oh my goodness you are going too far.” Rose said in disbelief.

“So you want me to sit down and watch my man being stolen by some woman?” Diana asked.

“He currently is not your man.” Rose said.

“Yes he is.” Diana said. “You would have seen how he was worried about me, awe he even kissed me.” She added.

“You are crazier than I thought.” Rose said as she shook her head.

“Goodnight sis.” Diana said.

On the other hand, Primrose was talking to Rosario kind of anxiously. She was just walking around complaining.

“He didn’t show up in the bar today, I called him and he did not picking up.” She said and then sipped water in her glass. “It is so hard to earn his trust.” She added that up.

“If Martin tells you to quit with that today, will you quit?” Rosario asked something that shocked Primrose.

“He said that?” she asked in disbelief. “Why?” she found herself asking that. “I mean, is it possible for him to say that now?” she asked.

“From the look of it, you don’t want to stop it.” Rosario said. “Truth is you are worried about him and that is why you are anxious. Primrose you are falling for this detective and you know that you can’t have a real relationship with him. Don’t waste your time just do what you were sent to do.” She said and walked away from her. Primrose went to bed. She thought of Jack and said, “I will prove you wrong Rosario, I will have a real relationship with Jack someday, I promise you.” 

On the next day, Jack was going for lunch alone. He walked towards a nearby restaurant but suddenly Primrose appeared before him.

“Jack,” she called.

“Rose,” he called in disbelief. She went to hug him.

“Why didn’t you show up last night? I was waiting for you.” She asked him as she touched his face.

“Um I think we need to talk Rose.” He said. They went together for lunch.

“You see Rose frankly speaking I don’t know much about you but all I know you are one of a kind, I honestly am very happy all the time when I am around you. Girl you are the most beautiful woman I ever met. You are awesome and that is why after a long time of being single I found it very easy to get attached with you, to move on with you. You are a loving person and you knew the way to my heart.” Jack sincerely spoke. He chuckled and said. “Since the first day I saw you, I knew that there was something about you. I tried to resist my feelings for you but it wasn’t easy at all. I surely am falling for you.” Jack explained as Primrose smiled. He held her hands and they all looked at each other. “But then at the same time, there is another woman that my heart hasn’t completely gotten over, she keeps coming to me asking for a chance and she even wanted to kill herself.” He added.

“Another woman?” Primrose removed her hands from his.

“Yes I once was so in love with her, that was almost eight years ago. We were young and had so much passion and we were really in love, I got her pregnant and since I was a nobody and she came from a wealthy family, her parents never agreed on us being together. At the end she agreed with her parents and had an abortion. She then went abroad for years and she is back now.” Jack explained. “She desperately wants me back and I feel like I have no choice.” He added and Primrose’s eyes were shading some slight tears.

“You are going to leave me for someone who left you?” Primrose asked.

“Don’t give me that look baby girl.” He said. Primrose stood. “Sit I want to talk I just want to make things clear to you.” He said.

“It would just hurt me.” Primrose said and wanted to walk away but Jack held her and stood. He kissed her forehead as he felt some slight pain in his heart. Primrose dropped some tears and began walking away.

“Please listen…” Jack tried to speak but she walked out on him. Primrose was sad and speechless as she cried. Jack felt so bad but he had no choice but to get back to work.

In the evening he went home and found Diana she welcomed him with a hug as Emilia and Tracy were very happy.

“What are you doing here Diana?” Jack asked.

“Jack why are you asking her that, don’t you know that Diana is always found of us?” Emilia said.

“Yeah sure… welcome.” Jack said.

“Thanks love.” Diana said. “They just had dinner and I was waiting for you.” She added.

“Thanks.” Jack went and sat on the table and Diana sat too as they were looking at them and smiling. Jack looked at his sister and mom and he then turned to Diana.

“Well Diana I suppose you know that attempted suicide is a crime.” Jack said and then sipped some juice. When Emilia and Tracy heard this, they quickly went to them.

“Jack what are you trying to say?” Emilia asked.

“Mom don’t worry. Jack is completely incapable of putting me behind bars.” Diana said.

“You seem to be so sure.” Jack said.

“Jack just have a good time with her please don’t pressure her.” Emilia said and held Tracy. They went to their rooms. Diana stood and went behind him. She hugged him from behind as he sat, she kissed him on his cheeks. She smiled and whispered in his ears, “Admit it, you miss me Jack.” Jack closed his eyes for a moment, he stood and asked, “what exactly do you want?”

“I want us to go back to what we were, Jack we were crazy in love.” Diana said.

“Not so fast. I won’t be what I was in a blink of an eye trust me.” Jack said.

“Okay Jack, so you mean that we are together now, right?” Diana asked.

“Not that way please. Let us just try to be close once again perhaps it might lead us to what we were years ago.” He calmly said to her.

“You mean friends?” Diana asked.

“Diana I just need time to be sure of this, I will take you to dates and I will be close as possible. I want us to take things slowly.” Jack said.

“We will do that Jack but not as friends. I won’t expect you to be the perfect boyfriend as you were years ago in the meantime. I will give you time but when we are in a relationship, I will be patient with you and won’t expect much in the meantime. Jack why is it too hard to understand?” Diana said.

“Alright but I don’t promise anything, I am trying if it will work out.” Jack said.

“Okay.” Diana kissed him. “Goodnight my love.” She added.

“Goodnight.” Jack said and she walked out of the house and drove back home.
