Chapter 9

3703 Words
It was around 8 pm when Primrose and Jack were having dinner together in a restaurant. Primrose looked kind of sad though. “You don’t seem okay baby girl, what is wrong?” Jack touched her chin. “Nothing important my love but I was just wondering about something.” Primrose said. “What is it?” Jack asked. “Can’t you really forgive Diana?” Primrose asked. Jack looked at her and sighed. “I have forgiven her. The only thing that I can’t do is to be with her again.” Jack replied. “But then why do you ask?” he asked. “And before you met me, why didn’t you give her a chance?” Primrose asked. “I…I was afraid of repeating the same mistake.” Jack said.  “Do you still love her?” Primrose asked. “No I don’t.” Jack replied. “What’s with those questions today?” he asked. Primrose was feeling so sad such that some tears dropped from her eyes. I took part in the murder of her dad and now I am taking the love of her life away from her, this is so unfair for my sis… Primrose thought. “Hey…what is wrong?” Jack asked as he wiped her tears. “Am just afraid of losing you.” She cried. Jack embraced her. “You will never lose me silly girl, I love you and am not leaving you.” Jack assured her. But I really love him. Did we have to fall for the same guy sis? she thought sadly. He then took her home that night. He kissed her goodbye and left her outside the house. When Jack left, she turned back to walk to door but she was surprised to see Basil. “What are you doing here?” Primrose asked looking at him in a bad way because she really hated him. “I saw how the detective was…” Basil said trying to touch her hair and she slapped him on the face angrily. “Don’t you ever lay your dirty hands on me again, never!” She yelled at him. “Right now you are just a killer like us so we all have dirty hands.” Basil said and laughed. “If you knew how much I hate you, you would have disappeared from my sight.” Primrose said angrily and wanted to walk away but stopped when Basil said. “The boss wants to see you right now.”  “Am on a mission.” She said and continued walking, Basil gripped her hand and took her forcefully in the car and drove to Martin’s place. When they arrived Martin furiously walked towards her. He gripped her hand. “Let me go.” Primrose cried out loud. “Do you have any idea of the mess you brought up on us?” Martin asked. “Those stupid detectives came to search this house and you knew nothing about it, they took the dressings that you used the night you killed the senator and when you killed that stupid writer.” Martin explained. “What?!” Primrose got very surprised. “I really hid them far away.” She defended herself. “You are very stupid! And how comes you didn’t let us know that they would come and search us?” Martin asked. “Jack doesn’t trust me to that extent, he doesn’t tell me his work stuffs.” She said. “And you were sitting down, waiting for him to tell you?” Martin asked. “It is almost 4 months you have been around him and he doesn’t trust you even this little?” he asked. “I am trying my level best.” She defended herself. “You failed that mission! It is over! Now I want him dead within this week.” Martin said angrily. “What?!” Primrose didn’t want to believe what she just heard. “You heard me right. I want detective Jack dead.” Martin insisted.  “No!” she shouted as Martin and his men wondered and looked at each other. Primrose noticed and said, “I mean we can’t just kill him now, it is not easy. He is very suspicious of everyone around him and he knows you might be after him so he might be very ready to defend himself.”  “He might suspicious of everybody but never you Primrose, I saw the look on his face when he embraced you and how he held you.” Basil intervened the discussion. Primrose looked at him in a bad way.  Martin chuckled and said, “Primrose…I need that detective dead before the week ends. There is nothing to discuss.” Martin and his men left. Primrose left that house sadly and with so much thoughts. She went to her room and laid on her bed as she sobbed her heart out. “For a moment I felt really happy and now the happiness is fading.” Suddenly someone came through the window, she heard it and turned around and it was Vero. She went to embrace her. “Sis…” Primrose called sadly. “I missed you, it has been a while.” Vero said. “I miss you more.” Primrose said. They sat on the bed. “Before we get into any conversation, I have something important to show you.” Vero said and showed her the watch she picked from the warehouse. Primrose closed her mouth with the palm of her hands, she was very surprised. “That action only tells me that you recognize this watch.” Vero said as Primrose remembered the day she gave that little unique watch to David in his 10TH birthday. “I gave David a watch like that on his 10th birthday.” Primrose said. “Then it surely belongs to him. I found it in Martin’s warehouse.” Vero said. “Oh my goodness.” Primrose took it and was observing it. “Yeah it looks old.” She said. “Was David there?” she anxiously asked. “No he wasn’t. The only thing that makes sense in my mind right now is that there are very low chances that Martin is still holding David.” Vero said. “What if they are holding him somewhere else?” Primrose asked. “Gerry told me that was the warehouse for such purposes but he didn’t assure me that they don’t use other warehouses for that purpose. I will go deep into this, if they are not holding him, I wonder where he could be.” Vero thought. “I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Primrose embraced her. “I would do whatever it takes to protect you and David.” Vero said. “Anyway I know Martin gave you a task today.” She added and took out her gun. “Tomorrow when the detective is going back home, I will kill him for you.” She said making Primrose stand out of her bed anxiously. “No sis, detective Jack can’t die!” She rebelled.  Vero chuckled and asked, “why is that?”  “Well because the detectives are helping us get justice and they are doing a good job. They will put Martin behind bars.” Primrose said. “What nonsense are you speaking Primrose? Is that part of our plan? I told you and I am repeating myself that I won’t let Martin go behind bars, I will kill him. Don’t even think that justice will ever be served here, I have been in Montes for all 29 years of my life I know how many people have died trying to seek justice for what Martin did to them. My dear little sister there is no such a thing as justice in Montes. Detectives are doing their job well yea but ask me how many detectives have died in Montes when handling Martin’s cases. Trust me they won’t get far with what they are doing. Being behind bars is so good for Martin, the only thing that suits him best is his head off his body and that will be the first thing I do when make sure David is safe.” Vero explained sadly. “But as for now let us just do what Martin wants.” She added. “I will do everything he says before we find David, but I will never kill detective Jack.” Primrose confessed. “What?” Vero wondered. “And there is no need for you to kill him after all, I will do that job tomorrow. No discussion, okay?” Vero said. “Then you have to kill me first.” Primrose claimed. “What did you say?” Vero wondered. “I am so in love with him sis and I will never hurt him or let anyone do.” Primrose said leaving Vero speechless and in disbelief, she raised her hand wanting to slap her face but she stopped herself. “Am sorry I know you were not expecting this.” Primrose held her hands. “Do you have any idea of how much I waited for the time to get back at Martin?” Vero asked.  “Nothing will stop us sis… not killing Jack won’t stop us.” Primrose said. “Have you forgotten that when Martin goes behind bars, we follow?” Vero asked. “Martin will put us behind bars and we will rot in jail and he will eventually get out and keep on with his businesses.” She said. “That very same detective you are defending right now will be the one to put you behind bars.” Vero painfully said. “Let us not complicate this Primrose, we said that we are going to listen to Martin in everything until when we find David.” She said.  “Jack will not die I will take the bullet for him.” Primrose sadly said. “If he doesn’t die this week, what will you tell Martin?” Vero asked. “I don’t know but I just can’t let him die.” Primrose said. “Martin will eventually kill him anyway. Goodnight Primrose.” Vero walked out. “Am sorry sis.” Primrose said as Vero jumped out through the window.  Primrose laid on her bed and thought a lot until she fell asleep. She thought of Diana and Rose and she thought of Jack a lot and she thought of David too. Few days passed by and the investigation was going on. Primrose and Jack loved each other more and more each day. Vero was still trying to find out where David was. Diana’s hate for Primrose who was known as Rose to her was growing because there was nothing in Rose that could make her compare her to Primrose apart from the similar looks. Rose too kept her doubts aside because Primrose was giving them all reasons that she wasn’t Primrose. Jack introduced Primrose to his family but in exception for Anne they all didn’t like her. No matter how much Diana forced herself to Jack, he would just end up rejecting her something that really hurt her and made her hate Primrose even more. Emilia never liked Primrose even a bit mostly because Jack was spending much time with her, in most of his free nights he spent at Primrose’s place. Anne and Primrose were as close as before. Martin was so furious as he moved around his house waiting for Primrose, he summoned her. Primrose arrived and when she saw him she began getting afraid. “What did I tell you to do three weeks ago?” Martin asked. “Um… I tried to but he is always out of hand.” Primrose said. Martin walked closer to her and walked around her. “Those people are gathering evidence every day. Do you think that detective will spare you when he finds out all you have done?” Martin asked. “Is that how you stupidly think?” Martin asked. “I think there is a better reason you are not killing that detective and I will eventually find out what it is.” He added. “There is no reason.” She defended herself. “I think she has developed some interest in this detective.” Basil guessed something that shocked Martin. Primrose turned to him in annoyingly. “What nonsense are you speaking?” Primrose asked him. Martin got closer to her and touched her chin and made her look at him. He stared at her face and she avoided the eye contact. Martin let her go and slightly pushed her. “Oh so you are protecting your dear one?” Martin asked.  “No I am not interested in him.” Primrose denied. “I will not spare his life, I promise you.” Martin said and Primrose was speechless as her eyes were suddenly brightened with tears and she swiftly walked away from them and went back to Rosario’s house. “Tell Lucas to do that Job, tonight.” Martin ordered. “Yes boss.” Gerry said. Jack was leaving home at around 10 am. His mom held his hand. “Jack you need to be careful dealing with Martin’s cases, he is very dangerous. I have been in Montes all my life, I know him.” Emilia said. “Mom you are telling me that ten times now.” Jack said. “Anyway don’t worry, I will be careful I promise.” He said and kissed her forehead. “Bye mom.” He said. “Are you coming back tonight or are you going to your girlfriend?” Emilia asked kind of sadly. Jack went to hug her. “Mom don’t be like that, only if you liked her I would bring her home and I would never skip coming back home at nights but you leave me with no option.” Jack said. “Okay,” Emilia said. “Well alright.” Jack sighed and said. “I will come back home tonight.” He decided and then he left for work. At around 7 pm Primrose was just restless and wasn’t sure if Jack could be safe. She called him but he was in the middle of work so he texted, “Will check on you later babe am still at work." At around 8 pm he drove with Tom to the bar knowing that he would find Primrose. When he just got out from the car with Tom, they all felt like someone was watching them. They looked around but didn’t see anyone but then Tom saw a man in a dark corner putting on a black mask pointing a gun on Jack and as if there was someone else behind him. “Watch it Jack!” Tom alerted his friend and moved slightly aside quickly and the bullet didn’t catch him. Before another shot, Lucas was shot on the head from behind and feel on spot. Jack and Tom ran to him and they even didn’t see the person that shot him since it was dark and the person had quickly ran. The people in the bar heard the gunshots and most of them went outside. When Primrose heard this, she was shocked thinking that it was Jack shot, she touched her head even feeling dizzy. “No!” she shouted and then ran outside.  Jack removed the mask on Lucas’ face but they didn’t recognize him since he wasn’t very known especially if he worked for Martin. They looked at each other in surprise. Primrose quickly arrived and when she saw Jack, she went to hug him. “Honey…” she cried in his arms. “It is okay my love.” Jack said.   “Are you okay?” Primrose asked. “Yes am perfectly fine.” Jack said. “Am afraid I have to get back to work again.” He said when he saw the police car and the ambulance arrive. “I will see you tomorrow.” He said and then kissed her forehead and left with Tom.   When Primrose was on her bed that night she was wondering. “But who saved Jack?” Vero was walking back to Greg’s place where she used to live together with some of Greg’s trusted people. She remembered how she pointed a gun on Lucas that night around the bar. “Hands up.” Vero said. “Give me your gun.” She added. He gave her the gun and she put it in her pocket. She pulled the trigger as she pointed a gun on his head. “Where did you take David?” She asked. “I don’t know where that boy went.” Lucas said and wanted to turn back. “Don’t you dare turn, I have already pulled the trigger and I will count to three.” Vero said. “One, two…”  “He is in the town’s mental hospital. We took him there.” Lucas fearfully said. Vero shot purposely to a point where she was sure Jack would not catch the bullet. “You better not be lying me.” Vero gave him his gun. “Okay shoot the detective now.” She permitted but before he could shoot she shot him on his head and she run away immediately. “I would have killed him anyway, even if he didn’t tell me where to find David.” Vero thought as she walked. On the next day the investigation about Lucas' death continued.  “That man’s name is Lucas and some people say that he sometimes works for Martin.” Detective Martinez said after finding out from his reliable sources. “Yeah it is obviously Martin wants to kill me.” Jack said. “Yes and we are going to bring him here again because he is a suspect.” Martinez said. They went to arrest Martin but his lawyer was informed. “Lucas was not only working for me. He had his own life too, what if it was a personal matter with the detective?” Martin asked. “We know very well that you want to get rid of us so that we won’t get to the bottom of your case.” Martinez said. Martin laughed. “I did not send Lucas to kill anyone and I have no idea of the reason behind what Lucas did.” He said. “My bail is already paid may I go now?” Martin asked. “Next time you come in here, I promise it won’t be like this.” Jack said. “I can assure you that I am never coming back here.” Martin said. He then walked out on them. When Martin arrived home he was filled with so much rage. “How dare is Primrose?” He thought that Primrose did it. On that night when Jack went back home, he was having dinner with his mom only. “I wonder what kind of a person Martin is, goes around killing everybody.” Jack said. “He was a bad man ever since before but he got worse when he was left by his girlfriend whom he claimed to be so in love with.” Emilia said. “The girl didn’t love him but was just with him because she thought that he really loved her. She then realized that he was dangerous and obsessed with her plus he got the girl’s cousin pregnant and that was when she left him. She then got involved with one of Martin’s old friend who was a such a good man and he really loved her, his name was John. John married that girl, her name was Cassie and they left Montes and moved to the city but Martin was holding his grudge. He never stopped bothering them in every possible way. In the end I heard that he killed them all and their children.” Emilia explained. “Oh my goodness that was very harsh.” Jack said as he shook his head. “Yes and now he tried to kill you Jack, please be careful my boy.” Emilia said very worriedly. “I will mom.” Jack said. Emilia Hugged him. On the night of that day, Primrose was walking back home from the bar. Basil appeared before her. She was surprised to see him. “Basil,” she called surprisingly. “You killed my brother.” Basil said and then pointed a gun on her. At the same time, Thomas saw them from his car which was parked somewhere around there, it was the same road he used to go back home. “Isn’t that Rose?” Tom asked himself. “That man is one of Martin’s man pointing a gun on her?” he wondered. Primrose was afraid but she could do nothing to defend herself. “I didn’t kill your brother although I have to admit that I am so glad he died.” Primrose said and Basil shot on air. “Shut up.” He said angrily.  “I can’t wait to see you dead too.” Primrose added and he slapped her so hard on her face. She fell down. “Am afraid you might never get the pleasure to see that.” Basil said. Suddenly he heard a voice from behind him. “Put that gun down and hands up.” Tom said. Primrose looked at Tom as she touched her cheek. Basil had no choice but to do as Tom said. “Use your feet to slide the gun to me.” Tom said and Basil did so. The policemen then arrived and arrested Basil he did not believe what happened to him. Tom then went to Primrose. “Rose are you okay? Should I take you home?” he asked. “No am really fine.” Rose said. “Please don’t tell Jack today, I don’t want him to worry for tonight.” She added. “Okay,” Tom said and then when Primrose looked around, she saw Vero hiding herself in the dark and gave her a sign of calling her. “Thank you very much Tom, I better get going.” Primrose said. Tom watched her leave and then he took off. When Primrose reached to Vero, Vero asked her, “Are you okay?”   “No…I feel really bad.” Primrose said as she felt weaker and began falling down but Vero held her. Vero took her to their grandma’s house although it was pretty far. Primrose woke up at around 9 am. Vero was already awake. “Good thing you are awake there some important issues I need to tell you.” Vero said. Primrose got up from the bed and immediately felt so dizzy and suddenly ran to the bathroom and vomited a lot. Vero didn’t want to believe what came into her mind first. “Primrose, is what am thinking true?” Vero asked. “I missed my period last month sis…I think I am pregnant.” Primrose sadly said. “Oh my goodness.” Vero was so surprised. “No it can’t be.” She said. Primrose nodded sadly, “Yes it happened.” She said. “Primrose aren’t you feeling the atmosphere changing? Basil was arrested yesterday, one of Martin’s closest people. Montes is becoming not safe day by day you might not survive in all these troubles with that baby in your womb.” She said. “What do you want me to do?” Primrose asked. “I am sorry but I think you should abort it. You are not safe yourself, how about your baby?” Vero asked. “This child has a father, a good man that will take very good care of it even if I die. I will never abort my child, my child with the only man I have ever loved.” Primrose said. “Then keep it a secret to yourself for the time being it is even safe if you don’t tell Jack because if Martin finds out he will take that child out of your womb in front of your eyes.” Vero said. Basil was being interrogated by the detectives and some officers were around. “Did you want to kidnap my woman so you would blackmail me?” Jack asked angrily. Basil answered nothing. He just kept quiet. They tried everything but he didn’t speak and so they returned him back to the room where he was locked. One of Martin’s people came to see him. “Tell them to get me out of here or…” Basil said angrily trying to threaten. “Or you will do nothing because before you do so you will be killed.” The man said. “And you think am scared of death?” Basil asked and laughed out loud. “Tell them to get me out of here.” He demanded and the man left without saying another word.
