Chapter 8 House Sharing Agreement

1391 Words
Hearing this, Marlow felt utterly dispirited. His tense muscles went slack too. This lady’s logic of thinking was unique.  “Miss, don’t let your imagination run wild. This is modern time. Khitan people were extinct several hundred years ago. ” Then he picked up the agreement on the table displeased and read. Scarlett had wild imagination but she wasn’t stupid. She could guess roughly what had happened. But she was pleased to see Marlow dispirited. She laughed happily. It seemed fun to live with this bad boy. In human history, wars never end. Fighting is the top entertainment for bored people.  ‘Humph! You will know my capability as time goes by.’ After Marlow read the second page, he stopped reading and said with glaring eyes, “Sh*t! How many pages are you going to write? We just share a house. Do you have to make it like a Border Trade Agreement between two countries?”  “Besides,” Marlow shook the sheets of paper in his hand and added disgruntled, “This is an unequal treaty. I’d rather stay in the jail than live in here under this agreement.”  “An agreement has to be precise. For a scum like you, there shouldn’t be any loophole. I got a doctorate degree in management from Harvard. I know how to deal with you.” Scarlett was pleased to see him distressed. She rolled her eyes at him.  “A small house like this doesn’t need a doctor in management to manage. You’d better go somewhere else for a display of your talents. Go, bye.” As he said, he grabbed Scarlett’s shoulders with both hands and shoved her towards the door.  “What are you doing? Let go of me! Are you a man or not? Are you going back on your words? You said I could live here.” Scarlett struggled to hit his arms and d break away from him.  “You don’t want to leave? Okay.” As he said, he tore the agreement into pieces.  “Marlow! How can you do this? It took me a long time to prepare this. You bastard!” She was a president of a company worth billions of dollars. The contracts she handled every day were of tens of millions in amount. But she spent a couple of hours drafting a house-sharing agreement personally today. How could he treat her work in such a disrespectful way?  “This is my house!” Marlow moved his face abruptly to just inches in front of her face and said seriously. “The ownership paper of the house has my name. I make the rules in my house. Go to hell with rules of ‘decent clothing in the public area’, ‘underwear and socks have to be washed every day and can’t be seen in the sitting room’. Do you have a fetish about neatness?” Marlow was polite to Scarlett as she was Halbert Murphy’s sister and his fiancée, but the numerous terms in the agreement irritated him. This lady was too aggressive.  “Marlow, you…” Scarlett pushed him away and after kept a distance from him, she stared at him angrily. Marlow ignored her angry glance and said, “Remember, even if you are a big boss like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, in my house, I make the rules. Rule number one, you are responsible for maintaining the cleanness of the house. From now on, you have to clean the house every day.”  “No problem.” Scarlett agreed readily. She knew it was not realistic to expect Marlow to clean the house, judging from the way he behaved.  “Rule number two, this room in mine. That one is yours. Without permission, one can’t enter the other’s room. Of course, if you don’t agree and insist on us sleeping together…”  “Don’t make me sick. Go ahead, next one!” Without waiting for him to finish, Scarlett interrupted him.  “Okay. Rule number three, when the weather is hot, you can’t have strict restrictions on clothing. Like what I’m wearing now. Isn’t it very normal? You can see men with naked upper bodies on the streets too. As long as they don’t reveal their lower body, it is acceptable, isn’t it?” Scarlett rolled her eyes but said nothing. It sounded a little too much, but what he said made some sense. She didn’t want to waste time with him anymore. Besides, she thought even if she protested, it probably wouldn’t work.   Anyway, she could lock herself up in her room after getting back from the office. So if he wanted to be half-naked, go ahead. So she accepted it silently with a cold expression.  “Of course, if you want to have equal rights and reveal your upper body too, I don’t have an objection to it,” Marlow smirked and stared at her bosoms that looked like two mountains.  “Go to hell!”  “Hehe, rule number four…” At this time, Scarlett’s cell phone rang. She took it up and had a look, and then said to Marlow, “I will talk to you later.” After she got back to her room, she cried out to the phone, “Dad! You are so cruel! You leave me no other choice. But the man you found for me is too unreliable.”  “Haha? Why do you say he is unreliable? Did he bully you? I will give him a lesson if he did.” On the phone, Douglas Murphy laughed happily. Scarlett reported to him what happened today in detail. In the end, she said, “Dad, do I have to marry this scum? You are being so irresponsible. Am I really your daughter?”  “Of course you are my daughter; otherwise I wouldn’t have found you such a nice man. Don’t worry. He just has a dirty mouth. His character has no problem. I know him very well.” After a short pause, he added, “The point is, with Marlow by your side, you will be safe. An open enemy is easier to deal with than a false friend. Your business is growing bigger and bigger. You might offend somebody without knowing it. You can let Marlow work in your company. In that case…”  “I’ve asked him, but he is not willing to go. I can’t force him. He said that he had the shares you gave him and they are enough for him to spend the rest of his life.”  “Did he really say that? Bastard! Give the phone to him. I’ll talk to him.” Douglas got furious at her words. This was in fact Scarlett’s scheme. She found it very entertaining to fight against Marlow now.  ‘In your house, you make the rules. But in my company, I make the rules. I will fix you if you work for me.’ She knew that Marlow wasn’t interested in going to work. So she got her father involved in this matter and made him deal with Marlow himself. She walked out of her room and handed the phone to Marlow. “My father wants to talk with you.” Marlow gave her a glance without expression and then took the phone. “Okay, okay…Yes, yes…You are so right, Uncle Murphy…” He was as humble as a dog with its tail between its legs. After he hung off the phone, he stood up and said, “Okay, you won. I’ll go to work in your company tomorrow if you don’t think I’m too noisy. That’s all for the agreement so far. If there is anything missing, you can add to it. I have to go to sleep now. I’m senior management personnel now.”
