Chapter 25 Daisy Became A Permanent Employee

1374 Words
In another office of Watson Group, d**k was talking to a middle-aged man with a woeful look. “Richard, you have to help me. Nobody would give me a job if I leave Watson.” “You know that yourself? Then why would you talk big?” The middle-aged man thumped the table angrily and said. “I didn’t expect this to happen. If that boy had just offended me, I wouldn’t have said that. But I knew he also groped Yolanda. I thought he would undoubtedly be fired. How could I expect…Richard, I know Scarlett looks down upon me. The reason why I can work here till today is all because of you…” This gentle-looking and graceful man was Richard Lewis, the vice president of Watson Group. He was also d**k’s cousin-in-law. The reason he could become the vice president was not that Scarlett thought he was capable, but because he was a big shareholder. Watson Group had many shareholders. The biggest one was the Murphy family. The second one was Richard Lewis. He and a couple of other shareholders started the company with Scarlett’s father Douglas Murphy. Later the company developed bigger and bigger and they became the big shareholders. Though he was the vice president, his power and decision-making rights were sometimes not as big as Yolanda or Wendy. This was because Scarlett didn’t trust him very much. She usually let the two women handle important matters directly and sometimes didn’t even bother to ask for his opinion. Richard appeared that he didn’t care about it, but what he really thought inside, nobody knew. Richard rubbed his beard and thought for a moment, and then he asked again, “Are you sure that he groped Yolanda?” “Sure. Yolanda said that herself. That boy is capable of nothing else except offending others. Yolanda is smart, but she was pissed to death this time…” “Okay, okay. I know. You go back first. I will handle it. Remember, behave yourself from now on. Keep a low profile. Don’t make more trouble for me!” snapped Richard. … Inside the sales director’s office, the air was heavy. Yolanda looked ahead into the air with a blank expression and lost in her contemplation. Daisy was sitting stiff opposite her. She bent her head down and wrung her hands. She was wondering if Yolanda would fire her and Marlow. She prayed that Marlow wouldn’t blame her. She was not good at lying. Twenty minutes earlier, she was called to Yolanda’s office. She collected the two million dollars back, of course as the director had to praise her. However, she gave herself away after a few questions of Yolanda. Yolanda pulled a long face and Daisy was so scared that she told her all the details of what happened in Hennes Corp. But the problem was she didn’t know why the ferocious Mr. Foxon suddenly agreed to make the payment to them. She had no idea about that because she was dragged away. ‘Damn it! Anything connected with this bastard is weird,’ groaned Yolanda in her mind. She had heard that Mr. Foxon wasn’t just an average gangster who only charge a protection fee. He was famous among the gangsters in Starlake City. How did he find his conscientiousness this time? When she snapped back from her reverie, she saw Daisy was as tense as a stretched bowstring. She smiled and said, “Anyway, you got the money back. You’ve made a great contribution to the company. I have asked the colleagues’ opinion about you and they all gave very good comments on you. You are also an honest girl…” After a pause, she continued, “So, Daisy, we’ve decided to let you become a permanent employee of the company ahead of time. I will inform the chief of your team and let him help you with the registration procedures. I hope you can continue working hard in the future.” “Is it true? Thank you, Ms. Edison!” The girl was still worrying if she would be fired. When she heard that she had become a permanent employee ahead of time and that this was approved by Ms. Edison personally, she thought she was in a dream. “Yes, it’s true. You are an excellent employee. I believe you will be an important staff of the company in the future too. By the way, when you get back to your office, ask Marlow to come here. Tell him I want to talk to him.” “Okay. Thank you, Ms. Edison.” Daisy thanked her repeatedly and then turned to leave. When she walked to the door, she heard Yolanda’s voice from behind. “One more thing, Daisy. If you find anything unusual about Marlow, please come to tell me. He is excellent too, so I want to keep a close eye on him. I am afraid such a talented person sometimes would take the wrong turning.” “Okay,” replied Daisy after a pause. After she got out of Yolanda’s office, she went to see her best friend Shirley and celebrated with her. And then she strolled back to the sixth sales team with joy. After she sat down on her seat, she poked Marlow’s arm with a pen and said with embarrassment, “Marlow, I’m sorry. Ms. Edison is too smart. She asked me a few questions and she knew that I didn’t tell the truth. So, in the end…I had to tell her the truth. You won’t be mad at me, will you?” Marlow of course had foreseen this to happen. Daisy was so innocent. How could she fool the foxy Yolanda? She had a lot of experience in the workplace. If she couldn’t see through their lame lies, how could she climb to that position? Marlow didn’t mind letting her know the truth, as long as Ned didn’t know. Daisy needed to play the role of the big gangster’s acquaintance to avoid being bullied by Ned. “Of course I won’t. She will know sooner or later. Besides, we’ve done nothing wrong. We got the money back. She should be grateful to us.” “Right.” Feeling assured, the girl cheered up again. She leaned over and whispered with pleasure, “Marlow, tell you a piece of good news. I have become a permanent employee now. Ms. Edison approved it personally.” “Wow, we have to celebrate it. I will treat you dinner someday. But I am not surprised. You are so excellent, Daisy. She would be blind if she couldn’t see it.” The girl grinned from ear to ear and her eyes turned into a crescent shape. “I am not so good. Without you, Marlow, I would be fired. I can’t let you treat me. I will treat you, okay? If you don’t agree, I will get angry.” She pouted and tried to make an angry expression, but ended up with a cute and funny grimace. Marlow laughed and said, “Okay, your treat. And next time, my treat.” “Deal. Oh, I almost forgot because I was so happy. Ms. Edison asked you to go to her office. Probably she would interrogate you personally. Maybe we should make sure we tell the same story first?” Marlow was amused. “What an elf you are! What kind of story you’ve told?” Daisy smiled and said, “Sure, I’m not as stupid as I look. By the way, Ms. Edison asked me to report to her your behavior. Don’t worry. I will not betray you. I know you two have some problems. Ms. Edison is nice to me, but I’m always on your side, Marlow.”
